Not just a sand timer, but it makes a honking sound when you push the end and it has little 1mm marbles that spiral down the inside grooves when you flip it over. It takes 5 seconds for all the marbles to get to the end. It's visually and audibly identifiable. The game is 5 second rule, but for the younger players I either give them 10 seconds or they only need to get 2 things (instead of 3). I saw mention of taking this on a car ride and I think this would be perfect for that. This game is a winner at our house.
