I really loved the majority of this book, starting from the beginning towards the end. Emma and Carson weaved their way into each other's hearts and I couldn't help but want everything to go right for them. They had been friends for so many years even though it was mostly under the subtext of client and customer but every time they were together, it was easy to feel that there was so much more on both sides, the love was that palpable. Neither of them hid their feelings, they just never said anything outright to the other and assumed nothing more. I enjoyed both Emma and Carson's characters. Emma takes her responsibilities seriously and she does the best that she can with daily survival. She's not proud of her job as a lap dancer, but it's either that or no job. She knows what the public perception of her occupation is and figures that she can't ask for much. Carson is a famous race car driver who is a genuinely nice guy. He doesn't see Emma as a lap dancer, he sees her as a girl that he finds very attractive and fascinating. I adored Carson and the way he respected Emma, however they have definite boundaries in their "relationship" with lines that haven't been crossed although other lines definitely have been. Neither seems to know how the other person really feels even though the actions say it all. Emma has a secret and when it gets exposed, that changes everything for the both of them. Suddenly Carson is not the same guy as in the beginning of the book. I was trying to figure out his angle besides the obvious reason for his shift in behavior and eventually I got it. The depth of emotion is strong, I loved that. Towards the end, although parts were predictable, I think the depth of that emotion waned a bit. Otherwise, I thought this was a great book. Emma and Carson weather some tough situations, especially Emma, and despite whatever tension they had between each other, they were amazing about supporting the other person.One thing that really bothered me was Emma's nickname for Carson, "baby." She used it frequently and it just didn't fit with the context of the story or their relationship. They weren't an established couple even if the intimacy was nearly there, especially with the amount of times that Emma used it. It appeared to be unrequited love on her behalf. Another side note is that this story takes place in England. Except for the fact that the monetary currency is in pounds and the occasional use of the word "sod" or "sodding" by Carson, I really didn't hear their voices or language mimicking that of the British, they sounded very American the whole time. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ HER BEST YET... I almost always look at the ratings of a book before I read it. I also sometimes read a few reviews before hand. I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did according to the ratings and reviews. This really was a great story. It may not have been exactly how reality plays out, but it is a book, a story wrote from the authors imagination and how she wants it to come across to the readers. I was on an emotional roller coaster reading this book. My heart broke for Emma. After what she had to suffer from her parents, how she made a living, having to raise her brother, and her secret, I really did not think things could get any worse for her. Then we get to when Carson reacted to her secret and I lost it. I literally felt her pain, rejection, heartbreak, etc... I totally understood why he was angry, but the things he said broke me. It was very obvious from the beginning Carson and Emma had something special even if they didn't realize it or make it known to the each other. I just really love a story that I can feel the connection with MC's, it just makes it that much more enjoyable. I do have a couple of complaints. I did not like all of the miscommunication and non communication. It made for a lot of unnecessary drama. I also felt the ending was rushed after everything that happened and how it happened. Those are the reasons I did not give it a 5 star rating.
