Does this work for Caterpillar dump truck model # 78656-9993?

I don't have info on your truck. there are 3 things to look at to see if it fits. size- will it fit in the space provided, width length and height? plug- will the plug match yours? volts- is your truck 6 volt? first= if your truck is 6 volt and not 12 volt then the voltage is right. - if the plug doesn't match yours then you could replace the plug with another set. - battery is 4 1/4 inches wide, 2 3/4 inches deep and 5 1/2 inches tall.

Battery returns are not free and will cost anywhere from $14 to $25 It is best to make sure the connector matches your toy before buying.

can u use a 12volt batery instead of 2-type h 6volt batterys?

If the 2 batteries are in series to make 12v on a 12v vehicle then it will work perfectly fine if you know how to wire it up. If the 2 batteries are in parallel for longer AH but still produce 6v then it isn't recommend if you don't know what you are doing. It will reduce the life of the motor and the vehicle will be twice as fast. But still doable. Most of those motors are identical anyway. And if you already need batteries then I don't think you are worried about warranty.
