But I kept trying. It turned out that I hadn't fully plugged it in. The dual-plug seemed like it was fully plugged in when it really wasn't; I had to push the dual-plug into both of the PS2 slots with more force than I initially expected. Same with the controller slots on the multitap. Also, the PS2 can only read the memory card that's plugged into the multitap (if the multitap is fully plugged in). So all of that put together probably explains some of the confusion and negative reviews. But yes, it works as advertised on my fat PS2 (not sure if it works on the slim PS2).
