Indispensable kitchen gadget
I've used one of these for a couple of years and find the tiny dice essential for garlic and other things as well. I have other garlic tools, but this is my favorite because it is easy to clean and the results are so consistent. None of the other dicers on the market have this fine a grid, so it's the best choice for things you want in really small pieces. I use mine for garlic frequently, but also for pickles or olives I'm adding to a salad, radishes that are especially tangy, herbs and sometimes small onions or shallots when I want the small dice. The unit is small so the item placed on the grid has to be small, but the dice is beautiful and exactly right for tuna salad, for example, where you want small pieces of things. I still use the bigger sized unit for the celery I add to the tuna salad, and in fact often use both units for most preparations since the tiny pieces of garlic are ideal even if I want the bigger dice for other things. I never put either of mine in the dishwasher because they are so easy to clean under the faucet and have ready for the next concoction. The little grid that fits down over the `teeth' is by far the easiest solution for removing any embedded pieces. I highly recommend this gadget for its ease of use and reliable results--the perfect fine dice.

I've had mine for years and you'll have to pry it out my cold dead hands...
I'm buying this for a friend. I've had mine for years and love it. I use it for onions and garlic, but it is the very small dice for peppers that I love the best...beautiful little splashes of color and even people that don't like peppers will tolerate this very small dice in their salads. Great for olives and makes egg salad in less then a minute. Sometimes for the first slice you have to hold the cleaning grid steady...and the tabs on the side make that possible...but after the first chop it's holds itself in there and cleanup is a breeze. I rarely put this unit in the dishwasher (and NEVER the grid) because cleanup is so easy. After 6 years one of the tabs on the collection bin broke but because there are 3 tabs it still holds in fine so I have no need to replace mine yet. The uniform size gives you professional looking results and I would now perish without it. Highly recommended. I've read all the negative feedback and my opinion is that they #1: didn't use the cleaning grid #2: Used hard veggies whole (they should be sliced first) #3:Used veggies that extended past the grid and #4: didn't read the instructions Ignore them all and buy this unit!

Very disappointed
If I could rate this product less than one star I would. I purchased this along with the Progressive brand (the one that has the extra blades, storage box, chopper box etc...and you would not believe the difference in products. This one is awful for chopping even something simple like garlic. The design of this product is all wrong, it is difficult to get pushed thru AND the clean up is a nightmare. Skip over this and go right to the less expensive, better bargain of the progressive international brand. You'll be happy you did.

A must for garlic lovers!
I own a previous model and have found it invaluable---we love minced garlic and olive oil for dipping french bread. My ONLY criticism of the 2 newer ones I ordered is that they lack the little plastic cup that the minced garlic falls into. It's a real convenience, but I guess I can live without it. Grrr. Otherwise, this is the greatest help since french bread! Great for soups, stews, casseroles, etc., even without the little plastic cup.

Works as advertised, but..
This does work as advertised and it's nice being able to cut things in a fraction of the time it would take with a normal knife. However, the blades are so small it practically purees just about anything I put through it. I guess it would be useful for garlic, but I already have a garlic press for that and it's a lot less work to clean. After just a couple uses I ended up buying another cutter with larger blades, and now this is sitting in my closet gathering dust.

Best mincer/mini chopper around!
This item was purchased to replace an older model that recently gave up the ghost after steady use for about 8 years. Blades are very sharp, this Alligator mini cutter is the best way to uniformly mince garlic and other small items. If you are using this with a large clove of garlic, first slice lengthwise and separate slices. Very large chunks of anything tends to be hard to push through the small blade openings. I especially like the little plastic cover, which catches your minced items. My first Alligator Mini didn't have this feature and you had to make sure you angle the cutter just right to get all your pieces into your bowl instead of all over the floor. There is a mini white "screen" (for lack of a better word) inside the green prongs, when you remove this for cleaning, you will see a slight amount of food left in there. I just remove the food and chop it by hand. If you try to chop without the screen, the last remaining food gets stuck in the prongs, which is not easy to clean out, hence the screen's use. Enjoy!

Fresh Garlic Lover's Best Kitchen Tool
I've been using the Alligator for several years and find it an indispensable kitchen gadget. While my old chopper was not yet worn out, I wanted to have another one handy just in case it failed. It's super easy to clean the blades, screen and base with a toothbrush, kept for that purpose. This new one came with a plastic receptacle that catches the chopped garlic-a nice feature. It's a very useful tool, so I also bought one as a gift for my niece.

Too small
It only chops tiny things like garlic cloves and i wanted it for larger things like onions. felt it was not properly represented

Honestly, if you have never had an alligator, do yourself a favour and buy one. I had an old one that I bought at Williams Sonoma years ago when they didn't make the little catch dish for the diced garlic. (I use it for garlic) This dices garlic perfectly and uniformly fine. You slice it the garlic clove first and insert two or three slices push down and presto, lots of perfect garlic dices. It has a very useful little stiff plasticnet that is attached under the nodules that the garlic sits on when it is sliced, so to clean the alligator when you are done, you simply pull out this plastic net and rinse it off. I will never be without an alligator for garlic dicing again and was so happy to find that they now make them with the plastic portion that catches the dice.
