Simplified Drawing for Planning Animation is packed with information about drawing the human form in a simplified way, for animators, illustrators, character designers and comic artists. It emphasizes simplified structure, balance and posing with sequential images. This book is used by animators at ILM, Walt Disney, Blue Sky, EA and many more. It has been required text at animation schools since 1999. This is an updated version with more character design information and animated examples from planning notes. It is a must-have book for animators and artists in all fields, perfect for experienced artists and beginners. Review: Great book for animation planning - Coming up with thumbnails for animation has always been a challenge for me, because sometimes my drawings don't give the right feel to them. This book makes it easier to see what IS needed for thumbnails and how to give the right tone for each drawing. Review: A quick read on how to draw quickly and acurately. - This book is practical and to the point. I picked it up because I wanted to animate but hated how long it took to draw so many images. I was able to read it and create a convincing run cycle (that I learned elsewhere) but the speed in the drawing of the images was amazing and I learned that here. I went from taking 30 minutes to draw an image from start to finish to 10 minutes per image. The image below is my work I finished the same afternoon I read this book. It will increase your drawing speed.

Pithy collection of brilliant drawing tips drawn from the world of animation
While this is obviously very useful for someone doing animation, it would help anyone who draws to draw better. After just reading a few chapters of this book, I found myself drawing with more attention to weight and gesture — and I've been drawing for almost 60 years.

... it but other than that it was kept really nicely. It is extremely helpful
The book had some stains on it but other than that it was kept really nicely. It is extremely helpful. This I got the book before expected delivery.

This book changed my approach
This book emphasized the "center line" which is the foundation to drawing characters. This often gets missed by beginners and sometimes professionals in a rush to meet a deadline. A lot of different books touch on the center line but don't spend enough time on its core importance.

Simplified drawings
Very good useful information. This is very good book for beginners that can enhance how they perceive shapes and depth in line drawings.

Expensive but good
This book covers planning animation in a way I've not seen in other books. It makes sense. I found the information insightful. If you don't mind spending so much for it, it's a good book. Short but good.

Cool
Un peu déçu de l'épaisseur du livre surtout que la police du texte est très grosse. Mais sinon bon livre !

Get it
Excellent book. I had the original copy back in the early aughts (can't believe how much was buried in my brain!) until it was stolen from me about 5-6 years ago. I decided to rebuy it now that I teach animation. So good. It should be required reading.

"Printed by amazon"
Not sure if this goes for all editions sold but the one I got was printed by amazon. And what a disappointing print it was. Low quality paper and very pixelated images. The layout of text vs images was somewhat wierd as well. To me it looks like they turned the original from 1999 into an e-book, messed up the layout and then printed it again... I suggest you just look up the original book on the Internet archive (archive.org) instead as the content is good. It just doesn't translate well to the amazon print. (I returned my copy instantly)
