Kids Learn to Crochet

Bought as a Christmas gift for our granddaughter to learn how to crochet. I flicked through before wrapping and it seemed to be simple steps for a beginner so hopefully it will be of use to her.

My seven year old son is not a typical example of a child wanting to learn to crochet. He saw the pictures in a copy of Inside Crochet and was desperate to get it-who am I to argue. He says,"It's got excellent projects. It is very good at teaching you how to crochet because it's quite simple and the pictures have got arrows to show you where the hook and thread go. It teaches you all the basics you'll need to know to do crochet." I agree with him. I have a shelf full of crochet books but this stands out as fuss free, clearly explained in writing and pictures, which is important as I think crochet is a hands on skill not a reading and comprehension skill! Peg and Pip are the two mice characters that walk you through (sometimes literally) chain, double, treble, colour changes, shapes by decreasing, circles, troubleshooting, stitching seams, sewing in yarn ends and stitching felt to your projects. The projects use the skills you learn in a fun and attractive way for kids (of all ages!) culminating in the Big project which uses all of the skills learned and is small enough to do in a few sittings. If you know a crafty child this is definitely for them. If you know a busy or easily intimidated by text book styles adult then this would be as good as any on the market for them to get started. If you want to stop Grandmothers from buying every toy/craft item in poundland every time they visit, then coerce the kids into begging her to crochet something and give her the book otherwise she might pull out that book that's been on the shelf since 1970, with Stephen King like results. It would work equally well on Grandads as only two projects in the book have flowers on or could be construed as 'girlie'. The rest are little toys, which could even be done in black,purple and red, so teenage grunge siblings could even have a go. A book for just about anyone capable of holding a stick.

I got this book to help teach my 6 year old grandson to crochet. I think for an older child they could use this on their own, but for my grandson I think we need to do this together. I will also use some YouTube videos, nonetheless I think this is a very helpful resource.

Fabulous book for teaching anyone the basics of crochet. Bought for my 9 year old daughter. She’s been desperate for me to teach her crochet. She loves it.

I wish I could say that I bought this for my grand-daughter, but it was actually for me. It's taken me over 30 years to master crochet and now I'm loving it. Very clear and simple diagrams and instructions on just where to place the yarn and hook and master the basic techniques. I must be very 'sad' - but found myself looking out for Peg and Pip's tip!. Two of my friends have also bought this book and we would recommend this to any one who wants to start this lovely hobby.

Simple to follow as long as kids are with an adult to translate

This little book is just what I was looking for as a complete beginner who has kind crochetting friends but forgets what I have learned in about 5 minutes! Here are step by step instructions for everything I need to start crochet and projects to complete as I learn. Once I have mastered the basics I can use it to teach my grandaughter. Clear and fun. Would suit learners from 5 to 105! (I am 52!)

Eigentlich dachte ich dass da schritt fur schritt anleitungen sind, die man zu den Kindern leicht erklaeren kann. Ist ein nettes buch aber nicht so geiegnet für die Kinder. Kinder müssen die Basics vorher lernen....

for myself and granddaughter to learn a new craft

Never having crocheted myself, I found this book to be an excellent intodution for myself and for my 6 year old daughter. It is very basic, but also very clear. Its presented in a way that is engaging for a young child. I picked up on the skill quickly, but my daughter is not quite coordinated enough yet and found it frustrating. We will try again in a few months!

Arrived super fast and just as advertised!

This book is easy to follow with large pictures and easy to understand diagrams for the young or new crocheter. I am also happy to say that I did receive the version with the 'American' crochet terms. None of the books specify if they are the British or American stitch terms version but I did end up with the American stitch terms verson. I am happy about this since I am teaching in the US.
