Elmer's Art Paste, Ideal for Paper Mache and Craft Projects, 56 Grams

A most satisfactory product delivered speedily. However, a word of caution for art teachers - the instructions, I've found, are deceptive! It takes much more time to dissolve the powder than the directions would lead you to believe. I used a 4 liter glass bottle to mix the glue. Fill the bottle with water about 2/3 then add about 2/3 of the contents of the box. Shake vigorously for 3 -4 minutes, or more! Wait a day or two or more...until the solution is clear and not too lumpy. Then add the remainder of the water and powder and shake vigorously again, for 3-4 minutes or much more. Let the solution settle. After a day or two, or three it will eventually become clear. The directions are not accurate from my experience. If someone has had a better experience, please let me know how to replicate it! If you want to do papier-mache with your students, get the glue ready way before-hand. It doesn't "spoil." NEVERTHELESS! This stuff is far superior to the typical papier-mache recipes I used as a kid, and to what is still available. Its worth the trouble and little (very little) extra cost. It doesn't get moldy or stinky. It does not attract vermin. It dries clear, and as hard as an eggshell. Last word - it easily washes off hands and out of clothes.

This is the only paper mache paste I purchase for my classroom. It is easy to store as it comes in a small box with an even smaller bag inside. 2 ounces of powder mixes a full gallon of paste. For those worried about clumping- you must work fast and I recommend using a whisk. Start whisking before you start pouring in the powder, which you should add gradually. Sometimes I get clumps, but it is usually my own fault for rushing through the mixing process. If you do get clumps, they are usually gone the next day and don't hinder the ability to use it if you use before then. Only complaint is that this requires several layers of paper to make it strong. If you or your kids or students try to paint on top of this before you reach maximum hardness through paper layering, your work will just collapse in on itself. I prefer using tissue paper as an additional layer on the outside of my projects to add color instead of painting- it usually looks much better. This is very gooey and slimy feeling, but has no smell. If you use in a classroom make sure you provide ample handwashing time, as it takes quite a while to rinse off because it is so slippery!

This papier-mâché product is amazing keep in mind when you buy it that it makes a gallon of papier-mâché glue we made six papier-mâché balloons big balloons and there was still plenty of glue left at least 6 cups. I bought two boxes and found out after mixing the first one you only need one if you’re doing like (6)small projects. You can also refrigerate it up to seven days if you want to keep the glue longer than that put it in the freezer for up to six months. Works amazing and holds very firm when dry we made lamps hanging lamps for the inside and outside of our home it was a lot of fun thank you so kindly. Kim

Easy to use, but pay attention to the mixing instructions. You can make this thicker or thinner depending on your needs. Too thin and you will have to re-apply several times and your basic pattern may not hold up. However, at the right consistency it works very well

Wonderful stuff -- this tiny box makes about 4 quarts of clear gelatinous glue! I didn't realize quite how muc that was. I've used it in a pulp papier maché recipe and love the creaminess it yeilds. I've used this on my paper boat to great effect. I've also used the "paste" (it's more like a gel-glue) to do strip maché. I processed it in batches in a blender that have dedicated to crafts projects (mainly papermaking). I had read it was methylcellulose, so I treated it as such -- to spinning water, through the top I added a slow stream of a portion of the dry powder. About 1/3 each time to correspond to the amount of water in the blender. Then I filled an empty seltzer bottle and an empty juice bottle. While my concentration was a bit less than that the 3.8 liters recommended - the paste was clear and gelatinous.

I bought for use with encaustic collages where I need everything (paints & glue) to be water-based prior to applying wax. This glue is not as strong as a rice glue, but it is working well for my light- to medium-weight papers, and I have not had any problems with the glue scorching while fusing. The instructions on the package are for mixing the entire box; I was able to make a smaller batch by using my kitchen scale to measure how much powder to use.

When I got this, I was so excited. It makes a gallon. So I put a gallon of cold water in a milk jug and proceeded to pour the powder in the small opening. it started gelling up before I could get half in so I was squeezing and pushing it in. Had it all over my hands. I was afraid for a bit that I would glue my hands together. Finally got as much in as I could. Next, instructions said stir it well, so I shook and shook the container. Then let it set for 15 minutes and stir again. Okay, now I am gasping for breath and set it down. I have 3 inches of goop in the jug and the rest water. Sigh. So I take a little bit out and put it in something I can't mess up - an empty tuna fish can. Took a glob of glue and squished it with a little water. I noticed the glue was turning red. Yep, cut myself on the tuna can. After bandaging my finger and using a small glass jar, I got a little glue and watered it down. Decided to use a brush instead of finger to apply. It worked. It does a good job of gluing and is clear. I cannot blame all my travails on the instructions, but they could have been better. Should have first tested with a little bit. I know that we crafters like to do things the hard way, but next time I am going to get it already made.Update: After sitting for a week, I noticed that the glob at the top had dissolved and I now have liquid glue and it works fine. Note to self - be patient.

I used this as pinata glue. Read a post online that it worked good and no worry about bugs eating it (like with flour and water). It worked pretty good! One box makes a ton of "watery pancake batter" but clear paste.! I did about 8 layers on my 36" Monster Pinata and it wasn't so sure about it because although it held together well, I could bend it in and thought maybe it wouldn't hold up to being beaten with a stick. It did great! Had 11 kids go through 3 times and it made little dents but didn't bust. I had to actually bust it open myself. I thought this was great! Also, I put 4 bags of 180 count candy in the pinata and it was able to stay together.

The mixture keeps for ages. Very smooth, does a perfect job. I divided the contents of the pack into 3 and just one batch will keep me going for many pieces of work. Great value.

Makes for a smooth clean easy to mix and use papier mache.

I love this product. I mix it up in quarters and am amazed at how far it goes at pennies a project. It’s easy to work with and dries quickly when placed in front of a fan. Very easy cleanup and doesn’t appear to support mould growth.
