The Second Shift Steel Toe work boot delivers protection, comfort and durability to get you through your day regardless of the work at hand. Rugged styling and quality leathers make this boot an easy everyday choice on and off the job. As the world's foremost manufacturer of heavy equipment, Cat earthmovers are known around the world as a symbol of honest work, strength and integrity. Cat Footwear makes boots and shoes based on these same principals. The brand has evolved from work boots into a range of industrial and casual footwear built with the sole purpose of staying true to their original goal--creating genuine, hard-working boots and shoes. Review: Without Any Equivocation, These Boots are the Best Workshoes I've Ever Owned. - Due to the fact that I have serious Neuropathy in both feet, and my left foot is larger than my right foot, I'm always hesitant to purchase shoes or boots--any shoes or boots. And, I'm even more hesitant to purchase work boots without having the opportunity to first try them. So, it was with great trepidation that I purchased this pair of Caterpillar Work Boots. Nevertheless, I just sort of "let it rip." Once the Caterpillar Work Boots arrived, I tried them on, and wore them inside my house. Obviously, I figured if the fit was less-than-acceptable, or they hurt my feet, I'd simply box them up and return them to desertcart. Amazingly, not only did they NOT hurt my feet, they fit spectacularly well; and they were even comfortable. Now, I've purchased far-too-many pairs of work boots throughout my life to even attempt to keep count, and NEVER have I ever had a pair of work boots fit as well as the Caterpillar Work Boots. They are simply amazing--I have no other way to describe them. Since receiving these Caterpillar Work Boots back in February 2020, I've worn them a number of times; and when I've worn them, I've had them on for an extended period of hours. I'm serious when I say these Caterpillar Work Boots are even more comfortable than any of my New Balance athletic shoes. Due to my severe Neuropathy, my Podiatrist suggested that I wear New Balance athletic shoes. New Balance athletic shoes are supposed to be "the poor man's answer to severe Neuropathy." And, I do agree that they ARE for "poor men"; I wear New Balance athletic shoes because my Podiatrist wanted to sell me a pair of custom-maid Diabetic shoes at the very pricey sum of $1,050.00 (one thousand fifty dollars, and zero cents). Since my health insurance plan will not cover the custom made Diabetic shoes, and custom-made insoles (i.e.; inserts), also at the extremely pricey sum of $450.00 (four hundred fifty dollars, and zero cents), I'm on-my-own for modalities. Well, heck, wearing the Caterpillar Work Boots is so comfortable I just might make them my "everyday shoes." After all I'm a resident of deep-south southwestern North Carolina, way up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, so around these here-parts, the Caterpillar Work Boots just might be considered "very down-home; and very, very stylish." Y'all never know! But, I'd definitely recommend these Caterpillar Work Boots: they're very comfortable; exceptionally durable (they haven't even begun to show the slightest bit of wear); they have a great safety track record; and they're quite affordable. And, if you doubt me about the "affordable" part of my review, just check the prices on some of the competitor's work boots. You'll be shocked! The Caterpillar Work Boots are definitely deserving of Five Stars! Review: Good boots - Broke-in quick, if wearing for long days, a footbed is helpful. Holding up well, but only a month or two into use. Fully waterproof, some work boots claim they are, these are.

A Hidden Gem in the CAT Lineup: Built for Hardworking Men Seeking Quality and Value !
Durable, Comfortable, and Work-Ready Boots These CAT Second Shift work boots are everything they claim to be and more. They not only look fantastic but perform just as well on the job site. At first glance, I thought they seemed larger than my normal size by 1 or 2 sizes, but once I put them on, they fit perfectly. The slightly bulkier look is likely due to the steel toe design, which adds about half an inch of extra bulk in the toe section. I added a padded insole for a touch of extra comfort, and now they feel amazing—like I’m ready to take charge as the foreman! The Climasphere breathable insole does a great job keeping my feet cool and comfortable, even during long shifts. The quality oiled full-grain leather and Goodyear Welt Construction are impressive, ensuring these boots are both durable and flexible. The T3 Rubber Outsole offers excellent slip resistance, and the steel shank adds much-needed stability and support. What stands out about this boot is that it feels like an Easter egg within the CAT lineup, most likely geared toward hardworking men who deserve a break while still receiving top-notch quality for their money. With added features like electrical hazard protection and the engineered nylon mesh lining, this boot delivers everything you’d expect and more. CAT really nailed it with this model—highly recommended!

Pretty Good
These boots are pretty decent. I have high arches in my feet, though, so the insoles aren't particularly useful. I put some of Dr Scholls insoles in, and it seems to improve a bit. However, as I purchased a size 14 pair, there was only one option at any of the stores I went to (seriously, everything was size 8-13, only a single thing went to size 14 and it was the same thing everywhere). As to the traction, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I've recently started working at a factory(ish) place that makes mocha powder for Starbucks, and that powder gets EVERYWHERE, especially on the floor. With my old gym shoes, I could slide around pretty easily (which was sometimes rather fun), but this is a rather dangerous situation. I heard from one of my coworkers that they make boots for exactly this sort of thing, so I got these (they are advertised as having high traction). Unfortunately, I still slide around on powder a bit, but mostly when it's piled up on the floor or built up on the bottom of the shoe. However, I don't think that it's possible to get a perfect grip on a smooth floor covered in powder (without damaging the floor, at least) because, while the shoe may have a perfect grip on the powder on the bottom, the powder does NOT have a good grip on the floor, so I end up sliding anyway (kind of like standing on a chair with wheels. You might have perfect traction on the chair, but the chair can still roll around). In any case, the traction is better than my old gym shoes, at least. I've also noticed a bit of a problem with my ankle being rather loose in the boot. I've no idea whether it's because the boot is too big (I doubt it, but it might be something around half a size too big if it is) or because that's just the way these boot designs are (This is the first pair of boots I've ever bought). This is an extremely annoying problem. It does largely go away when I make sure to really tighten the shoe laces at the top of the boot, though. As to how much I wear them, I have to stand on my feet for around 8-10 hours per work day. Every now and then, I'll have to do a 12 hour shift. My feet are fine at the beginning, but they do begin to get sore at the end, so the boots certainly aren't magic clouds of foot comfort wonder. The soreness is beginning to go away, though, so it's also quite reasonable to believe the cause to simply be because I'm unaccustomed to standing all day long. In short, the boots are pretty good. The insoles aren't quite suited to my feet, but my feet have rather high arches. The traction is pretty good, as long as you don't go walking around on piles of mocha powder. The comfort seems reasonable as well, but it's not super awesome foot heaven (not that any shoe is super awesome foot heaven, anyway). I'd be fairly comfortable in recommending these boots to another person.

Great boot
Great fit. Fast delivery. I took off a star for the uncomfortableness of the boot. It takes a bit to break in and are not high enough for my liking. It’s just my opinion on comfort. Otherwise great boot. Great seller!

Best Pair of Boots I’ve Ever Owned
So I bought these boots a couple weeks ago after doing much research online trying to figure out which steel toe brands and styles were the most comfortable, as I HATE steel toe (they are always so uncomfortable on my toes) but I needed them for a job. The 2nd Shift were one of the boots that had the highest rating, so naturally, I decided to give them a shot. My original order came fast but didn’t fit as expected since I had mistakenly ordered the medium fit instead of wide fit because I have big, dumb feet. I ended up calling Amazon and had no trouble getting my money back and the order returned. I was credited the amount and used that to get the wide fit version and HOLY CRAP these boots are AMAZING. After walking around in them for a few min, they felt just the right amount of worn in and fit like a glove! The construction is definitely solid, you can tell just by looking at them. They’re water/oil slip and shock resistant and are easy on your feet. I can’t even feel the steel toe, which is just fantastic. The leather is hard and stands up to punishment. They don’t look ugly either, like a standard work boot I feel proud to wear. My only warning is make sure you order a size to half a size smaller than what you would normally get. I say this because I tried them on in a store before ordering them online to get a feel for them. I didn’t buy them from the store because they didn’t have the color I needed for my job (black.) I usually wear a 10/10.5 but for these, the 9.5 were perfect. From what I see from other reviews, these bad boys last a year or more if you wear them on a daily basis. I guess we’ll see how long they last, as I can assure you I’d buy them again if they went that long. I’ll be coming back to Caterpillar.

Great for Digging!
I bought these because I needed some great work/outdoorsy boots for an archaeology field school at Crown Point up in the Adirondacks last spring. I kid you not, I saw them on a list of "Shoes for Archaeology" and I chose them from there. They looked the least dorky out of all the shoes on the list. I'll say, I'm glad I chose them. They suited my needs almost perfectly. They fit pretty good. I have wide feet, and I felt they fit just fine, if not on the larger side. There is a break in period. But after they break in, they become quite comfortable. They're not bad to stand in, sit on, crouch in, etc. I would recommend them for job site stuff. They're pretty easy to clean, as their mad of mostly smooth leather. I got these things caked in mud, and a quick once over with a brush, wash cloth, and some polish makes them look damn near brand new. I will also say, these shoes can take serious abuse. I put these through hell, and other than the scratches you expect to show up on leather over time, creases on the toes, and the laces getting a bit fuzzy, there was barely any damage. They held and continue to hold up great. I also had a big ol' gash I got swimming in lake Champlain after a dig, and the boot had very reasonable support. Helped the wound heal pretty good. Oh, also, I like the way they look. They look good. Now, there are some cons to these boots as well. I believe it say they're water proof. This not exactly true. I did wear these in rain. My feet did come out dry. However, you could see the leather absorbing the water and getting all dark rather than repelling it. So, they do fine in wet conditions, but I'd advise doing a coat of something hydrophobic for your shoes if you want them to last. These shoes are built tough, and are HEAVY as a result. They're not egregiously heavy, but heavier than a hiking boot, and most other work boots I've owned. I wouldn't recommend these if you have to do a ton of walking on site, but if you do, you will survive in these. I did. Lastly, these boots have virtually no ventilation. They're not hot like a dedicated snow boot, but they do make for feet reek after a day of being in them. I had to keep them outside the tent. Overall, I'd recommend them. They're worth the price, especially if you take care of them after you but them through hell.
