great book, I enjoyed this and his A380 book, its a mini course in flying one of these, great technical guide, I wish the author would do 777, 747 and Concorde

Well worth a read & very good review of the world's most advanced State-Of-Art commercial airliner. It is also only one of very few commercial passenger aircraft in service that sources it's fresh cabin air ducted from outside the aircraft & not through the engine bleed air, thus eliminating the current problem of flight crew & passengers breathing in vaporised lubricating engine oil which is starting to dramatically effect the long term health of anyone who spends thousands of hours crewing or flying on passenger jets.

The B787 is a superlative example of current aircraft engineering. It can climb to top of cruise from takeoff with out allowing for the fuel burn step climb required by virtually all previous jet liners. And at the top of descent special methods are required to slow it down as it is such a "slick" air frame. This book, written from the pilot's perspective, helps further understand and appreciate the many special qualities and advancements found in this newest aircraft.

Capt Vogel loves flying and this book illustrated flying "by the book". I will appreciate flying more for having read this book.

A very interesting book. As a former USAF pilot I could readily understand the new technology that makes this a great aircraft. I highly recommend this book to those familiar with piloting aircraft.

This is the second of Gib Vogel's books on modern civil aviation operations. The first book about the A380 was excellent but I felt this book lacked something. The clue is in the introduction where the author tells us he is rated to fly the A380 but not the 787. He therefore had to research his subject with the help of pilot friends who are rated on the type and oth aviation resources. The author was clearly at home writing about the A380, less so I felt on the 787. That aside, this book gives a great insight into the design, concept and construction of the B787 and how it is operated. Living as I do in New Zealand, I have made a number of trips to LAX and often wondered about how trans Pacific operations are carried out and arrival procedures in Los Angeles. This book gave me the answers. You will enjoy this book more if you already have some basic knowledge of civil aviation operations. Recommended

I am an aviation buff and especially interested in commercial aviation. I particularly enjoy reading about flying the different types of airliners. This book fits that bill exactly. It is comprehensive enough to impart considerable knowledge regarding the aircraft and its systems. I have also purchased a very similar book by the same author titled Flying the Airbus 380.

Great book. As a pilot with a commercial license (that I used for personal use only), I always love reading about new aircraft, new toys, new places. This book was very informative and revealing to me. A quick read, if you like airplanes you'll enjoy this short book.

This book gives you an over the shoulder experience of what it entails to take a big jet aka a Boeing 787 onto the runway ready for take-off & fly to a destination thousands of miles away . And you can begin to appreciate the skills necessary for todays pilots regardless of how advanced the controls are compared to earlier days. Highly recommended.

As an airliner enthusiast, I found this book very interesting and informative. I highly recommend this book.
