desertcart.com: Robert B. Parker's Ironhorse (A Cole and Hitch Novel): 9780425267707: Knott, Robert: Books Review: If you are a Cole and Hitch fan you will love this action packed western novel. - As a fan of the Cole and Hitch series I recently purchased and just finished reading this 374 page hardcover book (Robert P. Parker’s Ironhorse by Robert Knott) and loved it. In this western tale Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch are newly appointed territorial Marshals whose first assignment seemed a simple one at first. They are to escort Mexican prisoners to the border; however, it is not long before this turns into a complicated and blazing guns situation involving the governor of Texas, his wife and daughters and some of the most ruthless pack of killers they have ever faced. What started out as a train robbery becomes much more bloody. This novel is packed with various unusual and strange characters and has a plot involving money and land. I never give away too much information when reviewing a novel because I never want to spoil the story for the reader. If you like westerns and you are a fan of the Cole and Hitch series this is a book you will enjoy reading. There are plenty of shoot-outs and other action in this book. I loved it. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Tactical Principles of the most combative systems) Review: There's a new sheriff in town, folks. - With some regret, I just closed the cover of "Ironhorse", wishing it wasn't over. I can assure potential readers that this novel offered up one great romp through the old west, just as capably as the original author would have done. Author Robert Knott, now taking up the mantle of Robert Parker, respectfully & faithfully followed his predecessor's style, but without burying his own identity and skills as a writer. The details are impeccable, from the luxurious tufted material on the first class seats of the train, to the exact type of bullets Hitch is loading into his Colt 45. This new author has some serious writing chops: We can jump into the world he's built for us, see Hitch and Cole come to life once more, and know that Robert Parker would probably be pleased with the results. Readers can ride along with the two lawmen on the "St. Louis & San Fran Express", listening to their banter, and knowing they're always on the alert. Naturally, there are scenes of their unrivaled sharpshooting, as they fend off robbers, this time in the "playing field" of a moving vehicle or on the unstable roof of the train cars. I noticed a few readers griping, but I get the distinct feeling that they need to come to grips with the reality of Parker's passing. It's fortunate that an author this capable is carrying the torch. Knowing that, I'm impatiently waiting to get my hands on the next installment.

Cole and Hitch live on!
I fell in love with Mr Parker's Cole and Hitch characters recently, after reading his Jesse Stone Novels. I must say that Robert Knott captures the very essence of the characters, the story lines, even the caliber of Mr. Parkers characters, making for an engaging and powerful read.

Great read and great attempt to continue a epic series.
Nothing is ever as good as the original! But this book is a great attempt. If your a fan of the epic series by Robert B Parker or a new fan. Robert Knott knows the Characters and stays true to their personalities. He's only slightly off the mark, specifically with the relationship between Virgil and Everett. It's a more tender or gentler approach. This book could be viewed as a new start to the series. You could read this book without having read Robert B Parker's original series and fall for the characters and the plots. The story moves along well and dialogue is classic Parker. You will find yourself along for an epic adventure though the Wild West, chasing dangerous escaped convicts and in pursuit to rescue fair maidens of the west! Great read, makes for a good rainy day read because it will brighten your day.

Ironhorse
I grew up in Oklahoma and hunted deer and quail in the Kiamichi mountain area that is the setting for this wonderful book "Ironhorse" by Robert Knott - I was so impressed by Mr. Knott's ability to capture the writing style of Robert Parker (who I was always a big fan of) and the way he captured the feeling that I had wandering through the wooded areas and creeks and along the old railroad tracks in that Choctaw Nation area of Oklahoma - I am also a big fan of the characters "Cole and Hitch" and devoured their adventures in "Brimstone", "Resolution", and "Appaloosa" - In this book, "Ironhorse, I felt like I was living with Virgil Cole, as played by Ed Harris in "Appaloosa", as he and Hitch dealt with the Railroad Bandits around Half Moon Junction - The backwoods characters are real and jump to life with dialogue that I haven't heard since attending my Uncle Elmer's "Hootenannies" down in Southeastern Oklahoma - I can't wait to read the continuing adventures of Cole and Hitch when they ride back to Appaloosa and deal with unfinished business with his woman - Thanks Robert and Robert - Oklahoma Kid

効果音などが入ったラジオドラマ仕立てのものかと思っていたのですが、単なる朗読でした。ちょっとがっかりです。物足りないですが、ヒアリングの勉強にはなります!

I have enjoyed this series of novels. The dialogue between the two main protagonists is oblique and a little odd but it worked in the film Appaloosa. There is a lot of interesting detail about 1870's American railroads and a believable plot.

Robert knott has captured the dialogue and pace of Parker perfectly. He keeps it simple in the plot but it keeps me interested and I just can't put it down. I am so happy that this series continues.Keep it coming!
