We read this book over the course of about maybe four months at school, and at first glance, I thought I would hate it. It is super long, which I immediately disliked, and the first three parts connected but I didn't know how it would just blow up in the end. Each part is a completely different storyline, which I at first thought was stupid until part 4. Everything connected - and you really have to think about everything which I love. The ending was the absolute BEST ending I've ever read. ever. EVERYTHING made sense. I had to use my brain, and everything was a puzzle piece. I've never been a fan of magic and fantasy books - but this book had enough where it wasn't to much or not enough. It's a little bit hard to get into, but in the end it just goes together so beautifully. 100/10. Review: great book - this book is so great for summer reading and reading in general. the plot is great. love the cover design.

Uplifting!
With the negativity and darkness that we seem to be bombarded with anymore on a daily basis this excellent novel brings with it a prescription to alleviate those aforementioned symptoms. Let me start by saying that if you have the opportunity please get the audiobook version due to the musical theme throughout that just embellishes the storyline. You feel connected to the characters and become engrossed in their thoughts and feelings along with their emotional highs and lows. Although some may be apprehensive especially younger readers about the length of this book, it is an extremely compelling read that consists of separate stories that eventually are connected by a single and unique instrument. Highly recommend especially with the audio version.

No one is too old for this book
I just finished this book. It is an enchanting, beautiful, and riveting story, set in WWII, with changing locations and main characters. It starts out very simply with a childish fairy tale tone, but that quickly changes. Although it is full of action, it is sensitively written with characters that are almost too real. It was hard for this mama to read at some points, giving me a lump in my throat, and yet it was not gratuitously sentimental. I will be putting it on my novel list as a choice for the literature papers students write in Semester 2.

My 9 YO Grandson and I Both Loved This Book
I read this book aloud from China to my 6 and 9 yo grandsons in the Philippines. When I finished it, the nine year old said, “Mema, I loved EVERY WORD of that story!” I had to agree with him. It’s a remarkable book made up of several equally enchanting plot lines that interweave into one beautiful tale. The resolution was satisfying and rich. There were none of the frustrating”But what about”s that plague some books with multiple threads. At no point did I wish away part of the book or skim or get bored. I was a literature major. I read several books a week. This was one of the best books I’ve ever read- and I chose it to read to my grandkids! Ha! I both loved and hated to see this book end.

Audio book is done really well
(review from 9yr old) It was a great audio book. I liked how Ivy Fredrich and Mike are all connected. I learned that its harder to live in war times. While reading this book I felt sometimes a little sorry, sometimes a little surprised and sometimes happy. The author's writing was easy to understand and was kind of nerve wracking when they jumped from one story to another leaving us wanting to know what is happening. I liked how it tied all together in the end. I would recommend this audiobook to other kids ages 7 and older. It was tricky at first to read the actual book, and it didn't make sense to have the jumps from one story to another. I loved the audio book and it had great music with it too.

This was a gift for my girlfriend. She was very pleased with it; this book has excellent reviews on Goodreads, one of the best new books. I don't usually review anything I buy from Amazon, but this book deserves more than just 1 review with 4 stars.
