Can I acquire a connection cord that will plug into the unit and transfer reocorded message and or music to my computer flash drive?

According to Sony Support Jay you can't do this directly, but you can during playback of your recorded tape through your earphone jack. You will need an audio cable, (mono to mono, or mono to stereo type 3.5mm cable - mono end into the recorder), to plug into the earphone output hole on the recorder and connect the other end to the "audio in" port of a computer, (possibly stereo in, or microphone in - any of these should be able to be recorded from), and then play back tape and record it onto the computer using a sound recording software. Depending on the format that you want to play, you can usually record to mp3, m4a, wav , or other audio formats. Then you can transfer that file to a flash drive.

Apparently that is the correct price for a new one. You can get pre-owned ones for much less. And yes you could buy them for much less 20 years ago when they were still being made.
