Does this work to dry wet, just washed, glasses?

It works perfectly, leaves no smudges, lint or marks. I use this especially after cocktail parties with glassware that I do not put into My dishwasher...i.e. Champagne flutes, crystal etc. I have two sets and always have one drying on towel rack and another set just handy. This by far is my favorite drying towel!

Does this polishing cloth have a smooth surface or a looped (similar to terry cloth) finish?

It has a very smooth, yet absorbent, surface. It is a very fine micro fiber that leaves the glasses super clean and spot free. I recommend it highly.

anyone know how to get stains out of this cloth. I have washed it several times and it still looks dirty.

I bartend for private parties and events, and I use them, and have for years, to polish glasses that generally come from caterers or rental outfits; and they're always clean, and I don't worry about water spots, but I do about lipstick smudges--and it's from them that my Riedel's get stains. And I've tried everything--OxyClean, Wine-stain Removers, bleach, etc.--to get them out, and while many of them do come out, not all of them. Nevertheless, after I clean them, they don't transfer built-in stains, and they polish glasses just fine. But once they get kinda dingy looking, I replace them; but I always go with Riedel's when I have to buy new ones.
