One of the very best GBA games, hands down
This is an extremely fun, addictive, and challenging game that never gets old. Very simple breakdown: You take control of 3 different lords- Lyn, Elliwood, and Hector- and control them and their friends on different tactical maps consisting of forests, mountains, rivers and plains. Most of the time the objective is the same: Defeat the enemy leader (or entire enemy army) but there are some other mission types to shake things up like 'survive X turns' or 'protect X unit'. Each of your little guys has a job class like warrior, shaman, thief & etc. and most can be further promoted later on after reaching level 10 (provided you've also found their class-specific item). Each unit can attack with many different types of weapons or magic. And in ol' rock / paper / scissors fashion, each weapon type can best another and get trounced by yet another. So swords will typically dominate an axe-wielder, axes will crush a spear unit, who himself will be extremely effective against sword bearers. Magic is handled in almost the same way, with Light vs. Dark vs. Elemental. On the side you have archer units who completely destroy most flying units like Pegasus knights and Wyvern Riders. As for the challenge, it's not like it's super hard to win many of these missions it's just that it's really hard to win these missions without getting anybody killed. Trust me when I say I must've restarted any given mission at least 3 or 4 times when one of my weaker characters was unexpectedly killed off during the last turn. Oh man you will hate when that happens. Unlike most other games, when a supporting character gets killed off they stay dead forever, unable to be used in any future battles. Well, this isn't EXACTLY true. I guess it's more like they're so gravely injured they're unable to fight but still live because they can still show up in the between-mission story scenes from time to time. So you'll have hidden items, magic weapons, hidden shops, battles against an easy opponent just to have some enemy reinforcements show up to wipe out your merchant's tent... It's the perfect critical balance of extreme fun and hair-pulling frustration that really makes for a compelling game. Special mention should also be given to just how well Fire Emblem's presentation is too. Characters have their own large portraits, the HUD is well thought and laid out, and there's even Tool Text Tip help pop-ups on just about everything in the status screen if you press one of the shoulder buttons to explain everything more if necessary. I originally bought this more than 10 years ago new and as of Dec. 2014 I'm still playing it off and on. Not many games I've been able to say that about this side of Diablo 2.

This game is amazing! I recommend this to anyone with a decent attention span and affection for medieval war themed anything. The game is simple, but extremely elegant. I haven't even beaten it yet because it is so rich and has so much content. The cartridge works perfectly and shows no sign of stopping any time soon.

Addicted!
I couldn't get enough of Fire Emblem Awakening so I wanted to go back and play the ones that started it all. I can't put this game down. The characters are almost identical in personalities and the story is really enjoyable. I'm extra cautious since once the characters are gone they're gone. Play this game people, it's so much fun.

Very good strategy/rpg title for the GBA/DS
This game is an excellent strategy title for your Gameboy and will give you dozens of hours of gameply. (My first go through the game was over 24 hours total) The characters are all pretty much interesting in this game and there are tons of them to pick and choose on missions. The variety of the units and their personalities are what make this game so enjoyable. And if a unit dies then its dead. No 1-ups or resurrection in this game. If your character dies then be prepared to never see them again. This really keeps you on your toes as wounded units need rescuers and backup. However, this can be a pain to play a mission for over an hour then have the boss kill them in one hit, thus causing you to start the level over again... All in all this is simple to learn, yet highly entertaining game. Pick it up if youre missing some a challenging and engrossing strategy game.

Sold a bootleg. :\
I didn't see images of the actual cartridge, probably my fault since its my 1st time buying on Amazon. Game works fine but I am pretty upset I paid $20 for a bootleg.

Just got the order today. It's in great condition and the battery still works for saving. No complaints.

excellent
My problem is, I played the games out of sequence. If I had played this before I played sacred stones, I wouldn't have had the slightest problem with it. It is a wonderful game. However, since I played Fire Emblem Sacred Stones first, I got used to the features included in it that ultimately made the game easier. The Fire Emblem series is absolutely wonderful, with wonderful characterization, an awesome plot line, and pretty good battles. The idea of permadeath makes it feel as though you're losing a friend.

Go play. Now.
I got this game for Christmas, as an afterthought really, but Im still playing it now, months later, (time of writing: 1st April 05, and thats no April's fool). The lifespan is immense, the 31 chapters will keep you going for a good while, and once you've polished off the main game there's the extras and the compulsion to get a better rank. Its one of those games where you get quite attached to the characters and story. Each charcter is different, not just identikit units arranged by type, and one of the key elements is that if a character is defeated in battle, they're gone for good. This is just one of many variables that affects your strategy. Although its always a case of defeating an onslaught of enemies (with several variations) it isnt limited, and the fact that all the charcters are different means the army you put together will be unique every time. very addictive gaming, challenging in places, but you'll keep coming back to it. Excellent stuff.

Tolles Spiel

Addictive gameplay, even though the story was a bit to follow
I recently purchased this game, and even after all these years, this game is a classic! The story was a little hard to follow since the game almost never shows the full overworld map and expects the players to know where everything is, but what made me give this game 5 stars is the gameplay. It's addictive, it raises the difficulty smoothly, and it makes you think of youe next move carefully. If you want a great game for the GBA, look no further!

Bon jeu.
