Works well
Using this with my Kenwood TH-D72A. Works well. Speaker and microphone sound on par with what's built into my radio, which is all I really care about. Doesn't sound muddy like many of the generic ones do. Useful Info: There is a lock switch on the back which disables the 3 programmable buttons on the top. This was switched to the lock position from the factory so check for that if your buttons aren't working. The volume knob is a little stiff, but I suppose that's to keep you from accidentally bumping the volume up or down. The max volume on the knob is limited to whatever the radio volume as it. It just scales the signal it gets from the radio. Make sure your radio volume is in a spot where you'll get the range you want before stowing the radio to a belt clip or backpack. When used with a Kenwood radio that supports it, the 3 buttons are programmable and each can be set to do a certain function as desired. When used with a Baofeng/BTECH radio, the 3 buttons on the top do nothing (at least they didn't when I tried this on my UV-5R). Keep that in mind when buying this mic for one of those radios.

It works as hoped
I needed a way to have my Kenwood TH-D47 transceiver connected to an external antenna both in the car and at home. The fat coax does not lend itself to much radio movement. In the car, I have the radio clipped low on the driver's door pocket out of view with the speaker mic clipped near the dashboard A/C vent left of the steering wheel. There, I can grab it and hear it with the volume control and three function buttons handy without taking my eyes off the road. At home, I prefer to have the transceiver connected to an external speaker for better audio quality but still want to use the separate microphone in the speaker mic. The external speaker is connected to the jack in the speaker mike so the speaker in the speaker mic is muted. This provides better audio quality for me and hams receiving my transmissions report good clear quality as good as the mic built into the radio. It all works very well and I recommend the product.

Great replacement for the Baofeng UV-5R stock spkr/mic. Better, longer chord--better quality and better audio reports back.
Replaced my Baofeng stock spkr/mic. This SMC-34 fits the UV-5R radio just fine and gets better audio reports than the stock one did. The stock spkr/mic works but it gets reviews that you sound muffled. This fixes that problem and also has a few extra buttons on it that I have not figured out how to use. I don't need the buttons so I'm just using it as a speaker mic, works great. The quality is better too. My baofeng spkr/mic rattled after about a month or two of banging around in the car. It still works even 5 or more years of use, but it felt cheaply built in your hand and also got muffled audio reports. The SMC-34 is a lot better quality and sound. The cord on this one is a little softer and a little longer, so it reaches from your waist to your collar to clip better. The clip on this one is better too.

Forget the other cheaper speaker mics and just buy this one.
I own multiple dual band HT's and have purchased a variety of accessory speaker mics for them. This Kenwood is the only speaker mic I've seen with a volume control. Despite it's diminutive size compared to other speaker mic's, I get excellent audio quality reception reports on transmit, and on receive it's fairly loud with little (if any) distortion. I wish I had discovered this speaker mic earlier, before I ended up with a box full of other speaker mics that did not like. I wish they made one to fit Yaesu HT's, which use the narrower spaced Motorola 2-pin plug instead of K-1 style found on most HT's. Keep that in mind because the two plugs look alike, but they are not.

It's OK but audio leaves something to be desired
Audio is somewhat lacking vs the radio itselfs audio quality. For the price I really wish it was more clear.

Nice hand speaker mic
The hand speaker mic works well. No issues with the push-to-talk. Volume control on the mic is nice but I wish the dial stuck out more on the side to make it easier to adjust. The dial had good tension and stayed in place once set. It could use a longer swivel clip so that it could clamp on to molle vest better.

This is a great speaker / mic
This is a great speaker / mic. As noted previously, it is somewhat smaller than most of the other mics I have used / seen, but this just means it will hang lighter when clipped to clothing. Plenty of speaker volume once I realized that the volume control on the mic works in tandem with the volume control on the HT. Radio checks give good reports on the Xmit audio. One thing I really like is how flexible the curly cord is. You can stretch it quite a bit without pulling too hard on the HT when it is clipped to a belt. This handset is only a few dollars more than the cheap off-brands, but well worth it in my opinion.

Works great and build quality is excellent!
I am using this for a MD-380 DMR radio. Works great the buttons on the top don't do anything on this particular radio but the volume control works great. Set the radio at 75% and then use the volume control on the mic for that perfect listening volume. UPDATE: So after using this mic on a Baofeng UV5R I have multiple people tell me I sound as good as my ID-880H with a new Heil HM-12. Makes me wonder what kind of deal with the Devil that Kenwood made to make such an excellent mic! If you need a speaker mic you can't go wrong with this one.
