Sturdy and reliable...mostly
I had bought the original version when I got my 16" MacBook Pro in 2022. Love the MBP but I normally push around files too heavy for WiFi so I miss a real Ethernet port and this seemed of fill the bill. Seemed pointless to have both the USB-C connection for data and the power cable for the MagSafe 3 connector since it's going to be plugged in almost all the time. 100w is what the MBP will take through its USB3/Thunderbolt 3 ports even when it's being juiced by its 140w power supply, so this hub is perfect. While I was transferring files from my dead 2011 MacBook Pro's SSDs onto the spiffy new M1 this hub did everything I asked of it. The setup was rock solid for a couple of years, then every couple of months my screen would dim and I'd see my charger icon said I was running on battery. If I unplugged from the hub both the cable to the Apple power supply and the USB-C cable to the MBP, then plugged them back in all was well again. Then a few months ago I suddenly started getting a pop-up alert every day or so saying "USB Accessories Disabled. Unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices." This is odd because the only external USB device normally plugged in is this hub - which is powering the MBP. Not sure if the hub is starting to have issues, or if the MBP's original power supply is fading. I do need to investigate more. For normal users who unplug their 'book to go mobile regularly, this hub should be great. Update: 2025.09.18 Once I stopped using the Uni hub for power the "USB Accessories Disabled. Unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices." alert stopped. Means I have both a heavy-duty USB3 cable and the light-as-a-feather Apple MagSafe cable plugged in, but say-la-vee. I got a second one for my spouse's M1 MacBook Pro too for her wired mouse and speedy Ethernet. Works great most of the time but about 1/3 of the time she has no mouse. We'd have to unplug from the Uni and plug back in before the connection was restored. It appeared the blue silicon case was pushing the host USB cable out slightly so I slipped off the case. Now it's down to about one day in five - down to the annoying but can live with it level.

Nice box!
This is a nice device. I like the removable USB-C cable for easy storage in the laptop case. I always have problems with fixed cables, they always seek to kink and eventually stop working. Also, the length of the cable is a bit longer to give to a little more flexibility where you're working from. The rubber bumper is a nice touch to keep drops for damaging the case etc. It meets all of the rates specs as well, all ports work as advertised Nice box.

Amazing little USB Hub Incredible Customer Service
I purchased this hub after owning a very compact, on-body designed hub for my 2020 M1 13” MacBook Pro. It served me well for two years, but the main drawback was its inability to support 4K 60Hz on my display, offering only 1080p 120Hz. Despite multiple online searches, I couldn't find an affordable hub that met this requirement without risking breakage. I experimented with two different hubs, one falsely claiming 4K 60Hz support and another priced around $90 that still capped at 4K 30Hz, both of which I returned. Recently, I searched for the best USB-C hubs, specifically with a cable design instead of an on-body one. I stumbled upon a video by Jakob Haq on YouTube, where he reviewed the updated Uni Hub. His compelling reasons for why this hub was the best - featuring a replaceable high-data cable and 4K 60Hz support - convinced me to give it a try. I'd recommend watching his video, especially if you're a music producer with a portable setup like his. Upon ordering from Amazon, the Uni Hub arrived promptly, even without Prime. During the first day of use, all ports functioned flawlessly, including the USB 2.0 port at the back where I had my mouse's 2.4GHz USB receiver connected. However, after over a day of use, this specific port ceased to function or recognize any other accessories I connected to it. Fortunately, the 3.0 ports continued to work, though I was uncertain if they might eventually encounter issues. I contacted Uni support at this point, and they promptly acknowledged it as a unit defect. To my surprise, they sent me a replacement unit with exceptional customer service that was quick, friendly, and overall a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend this hub, not only for its features but also for the outstanding customer service that goes along with it. The Uni Hub boasts a range of ports, including micro and standard SD card slots, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 gigabyte Ethernet port, and a USB-C (as far as I'm aware) power-only port. Its versatility and portability are commendable, and the removable cable addresses the concern of the hub becoming obsolete due to cable damage. Overall 10/10

Damaged and Defective
I purchased this quite a few months ago but never had a need for the microSD port. I finally went to use it for the first time, and the metal housing is bent (please see pic). I reached out to the seller, but the said it was most likely the Amazon fulfillment center that caused that issue (it was not, the item came boxed and sealed, this is a factory issue, not an Amazon issue). I asked if they could send a replacement and I would send this defective one back and they said no.

Good price, Good USB C Hub. Connection is good. It's lightweight, I like the silicon around the unit. Makes it seem protected. I would have wanted 1 more USB-C port.

Pros: This portable multi purpose usb-c hub (model Uni Pro Plus) connects external 4k screen, Gigabit ethernet, USB-A 3.0 (5gbps) and 2.0 ports, and sd card reader in a compact well built case. It has usb-c PD input at 100W, feeding power to every attached device, including Ipad Pro. Ipad connects via 10Gbit usb-c port. With a 65W power supply I haven’t run out of juice yet with every port connected. I’ve had zero issues with connecting class compliant usb audio and MIDI equipment. Hub is USB OTG ready. More than I can say of the many usb OTG adapters I’ve tried. It just works. If for some reason my audio interface isn’t recognized, (once a month), I just pull and reinsert the cable, and good to go. USB-A 3.0 ports at 5Gbit streams several hundreds of MB/s depending on ssd construction. (EDIT. OBS This is with self powered ssd. Bus powered ssd enclosure has problems with getting enough juice and behaves erratically. Beware of this shortcoming. Look below). Haven’t tested the HDMI at 4k/60Hz maximum, but my 2k screen automatically extends the iPads built in. It just works. (iPadOS 16/17). If Uni says 4k/60 is fine, I belive them. Support is fast and very helpful, and genuinely seems interested in helping the customer. Seems they are proud of their products. One of the best support I’ve come across. (Thanks Amrich). I also think the 65$ I paid is money well spent. Cons: No usb-c device port. Only usb-a. For those occasions I use a proven (otg) Graugear A to C adapter. The power fed through the 5gbps USB3 ports is only 5V 0.9A 4.5W. This is NOT enough for powering externel ssd or other storage enclosures. Enclosures has to be self powered to work as expected. This should have been pointed out in the overview of the hub. The very efficient bus powered nvme ssd and enclosure I bought (around 5W total) didn’t work. This seems to be the case with all budget usb-c hubs. Way to weak power feed out of bus powered usbA ports. Not just this Uni Pro Plus. So expanding iPad with external usb storage is definitely not easy even in iPadOS 17. I had to complement a OWC Thunderbolt hub to get my setup running fine. (Look for my coming review on the owc, when testing is done). The only other flaw I know of is the usb-c dataport going to iPad is a bit flaky. It’s a shame the fit is not completely tight with certain usb-c cable connectors. The high quality, thick 90cm cable that’s in the box fits fine. If you buy one, Uni is a bit discerning about wich cables to use. As long as the usb-c connector entering the hub is the same size as Unis provided, all is fine if you ask me. At least 20gbps transfer rate. The plug shall fit tightly the hole in the rubber case that’s around the hub case. Then it doesn’t wiggle so easily. During a performance this could be a problem. A pity uni usb-c port isn’t as tight as the iPads. If it had been, I would have given it 5 stars. Now 4.5 is more to the point. Edit NOTE: You can’t daisy chain devices to Uni 8-1 that has to communicate directly with the host. For instance another Uni 8-1 or other hub that has connected devices to it. It can’t pass through buspower or talk to “host like” devices. Traffic gets intermittent or just stops working. I had to solve my setup issues with a proven daisy chain Thunderbolt4 hub from OWC. That solved all issues I had with other hubs. See my other review on the OWC TB4.

Een van de weinige goede USB-hubs die daadwerkelijk werkt met een Chromecast TV 4K. Eindelijk een stabiele bedrade netwerkverbinding (LAN) in plaats van een draadloze en vaak haperende Wifiverbinding.
