Nikolai: A Dark Light Novella (The Dark Light Series)

Niko, Niko, Niko. I don't know who I love more.... Your sexy brother Dorian or you! Either way I loved this book so much!! I love the whole dark light series! I can't get enough! I really enjoyed Nikolai's story!! It defiantly shows the different side to him from when he was in The Dark Prince. But S.L Jennings, your killing me with these endings!!! Lol this author defiantly knows how to write a good love story, packed with a ton of action and shocking moments!! Her books are steamy and sexy!! You won't be disappointed!!

What a way to bring me back from a book hangover and coma!! Fast paced, sexy as hell and fascinating novella. I'm becoming a big fan of the paranormal stuff and Ms. Jennings is the reason why! "Nikolai" is the novella based upon Niko's life before meeting him in "The Dark Prince". Niko has condemned himself to being alone and feels will never love a soul as long as he lives. Until he comes face to face with Amelie. Traded by her father as a slave to Niko they both clash right off the bat. After they start to break down their walls, secrets are revealed. Learning of her heritage and being confront with a demon that has now possessed her, he realizes he needs to protect and save her and do the one thing he thought he would never do...love her. This was such a great read!! I can't believe I thought Niko didn't matter in this series. I kind of thought he was a nobody. But I was so wrong!!! *smacks hand* "Bad Lynne" LOL! What the heck was I thinking?? He's is Skotos. Brother to Dorian. Of course he matters. It just sucks the cards he was dealt with in his past. This could be read as a standalone. But do yourself a favor and read the whole series. And if you are like me and think that you can do without this novella, sorry but you would be WRONG!!! I understand Niko much more now. Can I give him a hug? I hope the author makes up for what happens to him in the final installment of the Dark Light series. He deserves his happiness. Out of 5 I'm giving it a 4 1/2. Great read and just leaves you wanting more.

I am a huge fan of the Dark Light Series and in my book, Dorian is top five book boyfriend material so when SL Jennings announced she was writing a novella for his little brother I was very intrigued. We met Niko in the Dark Prince. He comes in and stole the show a little bit and got me thinking hmmmm.... What is it about Niko that intrigues me??? When In Nikolai, we get a glimpse into his world. His father Stavros is the King of the Dark, the most powerful person in the Dark warlocks. His older brother Dorian oozes sex appeal and is set to take over when their father steps down. Then there is Niko... he is the outsider. He has to fight for his own right. He feels like he cannot live up to all that is Dorian and the all-powerful Stavros. "I want to bury this shit. I want to erase all the confusion and anger that has haunted me my entire life. Never good enough.... Always the black sheep." We start out with Nikolai in the 1990 in New Orleans. He runs a large brothel that is very profitable. He and his right hand man Varshaun are ruthless when it comes to business. They are cold calculated murders and don't care who they take from to get what they want. They feel nothing. They are the Dark and they and they are powerful. The use sex, drugs, and alcohol to escape from it all. They live in a fantasy world where everything they ever want is at the fingertips. Nikolai feels nothing but emptiness and cold hatred runs through his veins. Until he meets the girl that will change it all! Amelie comes into Niko's brothel by ways of a debt. Her father is a drunk and has a heavy gambling problem so she agreed to be turned over to the brothel to have his debt settled. Even though she came willing to save her father she is kicking and screaming the whole way. The commotion brings Niko to investigate as they only take on girls that are willing to go into the profession. She is fighting the men and resists being there but then reveals why she is resistance.... she is a virgin "She's a virgin but she's banished herself to a life of shame and debasement, damned herself to live with a monster. Even I can't wrap my head around it, and I'm the king of mind-f**ks." She also knows who he is, even though they have never met. But Niko can sense there is something in her bloodline. Even though she is human, he knows she has supernatural powers flowing through her. There is something about her that he is drawn too. He keeps her in his room where he can keep an eye on her. She reveals to him that she was sick when she was ten and her mother called upon a witch to heal her. Since then, she has dreamed of Niko every night. Every evil killing or every sex filled night she has bared witness too. She is part of a bloodline that is an enemy to the Dark. She is a direct descendant of a Voodoo Queen. The Dark feel their magic is unnatural and calls upon the dead, that it disrupts the balance of nature. Even with this knowledge, Niko wants her more than anything he has ever wanted. He feels a peace with her that he has never felt before. "She sees me, and I allow her. Maybe for shock value, or maybe because I know she'll never survive long enough to confirm the legends of her people. But I let her take it all in... the nightmare that is me. The Dark One that needs to kill her... yet wants to own her." The more time Niko spends with Amelie the more he falls for her. She brings a light to his dark existence he has never felt before. He feels love that he never felt from anyone. Even though they have not been together in a sexual way, he craves to be with her. Just being around her is enough for now. He will do anything to protect her because if anyone from the Dark knew who she really was, she would be killed. "In the span of a few short days, Amelie has become a warm and bright as the sun to me. She's become my light. And I never thought in a million years, in eternity of existing in the dark, that I could ever crave that." This more evident than when the lovely Aurora makes a visit. Oh how a sooooo despise this women!! There is not a fictional character that I hate more!!! I hope one day she gets what she deserves because she is so evil!! So... she makes a visit to discuss Dorian with Niko. While having a drink with Varshaun, Aurora, and Nadia (another member of the dark and a friend of Niko's) Amelie over hears them discussing Niko's notorious sexscapdes and runs off. Niko runs after her and reveals the truth to her that even though their families are sworn enemies, he needs her. He has an overwhelming sense to keep her safe. He reveals that she has been under the spell of something, that she recently woke up possessed. The people who still practice black magic know that Amelie is with him, with the Dark and will stop at nothing to kill them both. Also that voodoo magic use is on the rise and to keep the balance of nature the source needs to be sought out and killed. He insists on moving her to his house and not the brothel to keep her safe. Niko takes her to his house and Amelie decides she is ready to give herself to him. These moments are touching and make my heart melt. But when you think they will be able to have happiness, all hell breaks loose... Will Niko and Amelie be able to be together even though their families are sworn enemies? With Niko being so wrapped up in all that is Amelie, he is blind to what is going on around him and one of his closest friend uses this to their advantage. With betrayal and deception on the horizon, will Niko and Amelie be able to find the happiness they deserve or will it end in tragedy? You will need to read to find out! Words cannot describe how amazing this book is!! It truly has it all!! Its smoking hot... I may have gotten the urge to light up a cigarette after reading a couple of the sex scenes. Its suspenseful... it had me turning the pages and devouring this book in one day! And above all, it's a wonderful love story about forbidden love and my heart melted and was ripped apart. I found myself wanting Niko to find love when all he has ever known is cold and darkness. It's a fantastic additional to the Dark Light Series!! Even though I am forever ruined by Dorian, Niko now has a part of heart as well!

I will be the first to tell you that I am usually not a fan of paranormal romances, but S.L. Jennings’ Dark Light Series is a TOTALLY different story. S.L. Jennings still has me in her clutches with this smoking hot series. I have said it before, and I will say it again…I will definitely go DARK to be with one of the Skotos men. Dorian and Niko are scorching! I already had a little crush on Niko from reading about him in The Dark Prince. He was just so mischievous and sexy that I couldn’t help but love him just a little. Well, Nikolai has completely won my heart over. Seeing his side of the story and finding out about what made him the broken man that he is tugged at my heartstrings and had me wanting to pull him out of his darkness. Amelie finds herself thrown into the clutches of Niko’s dark brothel. She is more than she seems. She knows who Niko is, and Niko finds out just exactly what she is. This is really all I can say without going into detail that would be total spoilers for this book. Just know that I LOVE Niko and my heart broke for him. I was clutching my kindle in anger and tears, and the closing lines from S.L. Jennings at the end of this amazing novella about her knowing exactly how we are feeling couldn’t be more true. I am so glad that this series isn’t over, and I can’t wait for more! I need more Niko and Dorian! I need more of my dark princes!

WOW! I have to admit that I have put this one off for quite some time as I was just wanting more of Dorian after reading books 1 and 2 but boy am I kicking myself now for waiting so damn long! Nico.....sheesh where do I even begin. He was just amazing from beginning to end. The more the story went on the harder I fell for him. He just makes such a change in his life that it is hard not to be completely in awe of him and the depth in which his character flows. I loved the angst that was built up throughout the story and literally could not put it down as I just had to know what was going to happen. I honestly hope we get more of Nico in the future!

Nikolai's book is my favourite in this extraordinary series. I loved him in the other books but getting his full backstory made him one of my favourite BBF of all time. Plenty of heat, laughs and tears in this one.

The Dark Light series is one of my very few best series EVER. But this novella left me... a bit frustrated... even though I understand where it comes from. I can't wait to read more!!

Firstly I had better qualify why I gave this 5 stars, I love the Dark Light books and fell in love with the character Niko there. However as Niko is just a supporting character you do not get an insight as to why he is the way that he is. This story is not really a stand alone book or even a completed story (from hints at the end from author we'll find out more in book 3 of Dark Light series) but it is great for all of those that have read the 1st two books and loved them and wish to have a prequel, in a way, to those books. The story is all about Niko and how he is battling his inner dark side, literally! He is a dark prince and knows that he must be perceived to act a certain way. Because of this when he meets Amelie he is torn between his feeling for her and his dark side. Now be warned, the end will leave you with your mouth springing open, hitting the floor and you no doubt wailing 'NOOOOOOOO' very loudly and cursing Ms Jennings for being so mean!! Yup the ending did that to me! I cannot wait to see what happens in the next of the series and am stalking the authors facebook page for when it is released already!

Niko was adorable in The Dark Prince. But his own story made me almost speechless. So not what I expected from Dorian's little brother. Nikolai is dark, dangerous and ruthless. Until Amelie. There is nothing more to say, because I don't want to spoil anything for you. Let's just say: if you love the Dark Light series and are into heartbreak, you definitely have to read it. Really! The epilogue was not my cup of tea, but it didn't downgrade this wonderful book for me.
