"Suzanne never believed that she was the type of woman who would allow herself to be dominated by a man, even if he was as strong-willed and intense as she was herself. So as she dangled naked in a dimly-lit room and stared into the eyes of the man who was tasked with breaking her will at any cost, she was quietly confident that he could not win. But as Sasha slowly stripped away her defenses and drew her into his world of passion, pain and intense pleasure, Suzanne found that she needed to choose between the job she was duty-bound to complete, and the dark side of her nature that Sasha had so easily awakened." Review: Adore the story - I am a total fan of these characters, and love the story overall. It's very dark and a little twisted, and the male lead, Sasha, definitely qualifies as sadistic. The story focuses around Suzanne (a spy? military operative? undercover agent? that sort of thing) who is shot down and captured in Serbia. She is captured by a sniper, Sasha, who takes her back to his base and tortures her for information in front of his commander. As far as torture scenes go, it was described pretty delicately (conveyed the actions and emotions without being sickening or too brutal-- seemed to be aiming for plot/character development rather than shock value, which is a big plus for me). However, he did rape her, beat her with a closed fist, use pressure points, and cut her once, so keep that in mind if you're bothered by such things. Suzanne is very turned on by Sasha, so even while he's raping her there's attraction on her part. This intensifies as he oozes sex appeal throughout the narrative. His character deepens because, though he admits that he finds her even more beautiful having just been brutally beaten and raped, he becomes very protective of her. It's apparent that he enjoys making her squirm and scream, but where she's concerned, he draws a line between hurting in the moment (fun) and doing lasting harm (bad). There are some very sweet scenes where Suzanne exercised her power to please him, drawing him in more, and where he urges her to give his commander any information she can so that he can stop torturing her before he really injures her. Once Sasha is able to stop torturing Suzanne, the story becomes less about physical pain and more about emotional push and pull. I loved that he takes her home with him, and the way their relationship continues to develop as he now wants her just to posses her, not because she has information his superiors need. However, it could have done with a little better editing: there are some typos and grammatical errors that make me cringe. Additionally, there are some inconsistencies in the narrative (I.E. "She climbed to her feet and looked him in the eye..." and three lines later, "He pulled her to her feet.") that rather spoiled the flow of the story. If I'm paying for a book, I don't want to have to go back and read a page again to figure out what's going on; that's an editor's job. That being said, though, the descriptions are excellent and full of vivid detail, the action is well-paced, characters are deep, engaging, and believable, and plot is exciting and absorbing. Maybe I'm a little twisted for loving this so much, but I was ecstatic to realize that my husband has a lot in common with Sasha. I would love to see more from this author. Review: Hard and dark erotic fiction - This is a very different book with a different kind of hero. As far as capture/forced sex erotica goes, it very much delivers that theme with a nice, heavy hand. The story starts off with Suzanne in enemy territory, being hunted down by Sasha, a Serbian sniper. As he's chasing her, he's also shooting at her. Of course, he catches her and takes her back to base camp where he personally interrogates her. His methods include beating her with his fist, cutting her, and raping her. This is definitely a darker type of erotica/romantic erotica, if you can even call it romance. If it is love, it is very twisted, confusing, and disturbing, leaning very much toward obsession and dark need. Sasha is not a good man, and he enjoys making and hearing Suzanne scream and moan in pain. It's very sadistic. And while it really is rape, Suzanne is turned on by Sasha, by his brutality and by his domination of her. She likes the pain, the more painful the sex, the better. And Sasha finds her even more beautiful bruised and bloodied. If you don't like the darker side of erotica, this story is not for you. But if you do like capture/hostage erotica or the forced sex/rape theme, all with a dominating and even brutal man, this story should hit your hot spots for those themes. Different and provocative.

Deeply disturbing and sexy af
If you like hard twisted dangerous sexy, buy this book. I love the dark side but donโt want to cross over into nightmare territory like Iโve found in so many other books like this. ZH has found a perfect balance between brutality and passion. Being prey to a sexy predator that talks dirty and takes what they want?โฆ yes please! I love the power struggle between the main characters, he doesnโt pull punches and she isnโt a wilting flower. Amazing read! Iโm ready for another book Ms Hunter!

Good story
Good story if you like the darker side of things. The sex scenes were raw. They kept me warm in all the right places.

Brutal dark erotica
I wouldn't classify this as an erotic romance. Many of the torture scenes are brutally sadistic. Suzanne loosely reminded me of the role Jennifer Garner played in "Alias" as a highly trained international spy on a mission that goes bad in Serbia. The torture scenes are horrendous. Sasha's interrogation methods are horrific and include fist beating, knife cutting and rape all which take place in the interrogation room in front of others. There is an intense sexual attraction among the two main characters but I certainly wouldn't classify it as romantic.
