Is there much difference between iRig 2 and iRig HD? The HD one is really that better or the iRig 2 is ok to have?

It depends on what you’re using them for. The HD is more for recording and the irig 2 is more for doing a live performance. The sound quality is way better on the HD especially if you ever want to record it to your DAW. The irig2 only uses 48khz while the irig HD uses 96khz. When it comes down to it the higher the kHz the better the input signal is. Hopefully this helps

Does it let you hear through headphones and output to an amp at the same time?

Yep, cause the headphone is an output in stereo. You can also hook it into a tape deck or computer and record, or a PA system and your guitar would come through in stereo. The amp output is mono if you hook into your amp and want silent practice, plug the headphones in the amp. You'll like it very versatile and easy. Go to ikmanual.com/irig2 or youtube for demo's.

does this work on a macbook pro 2009 edition???

From IK Multimedia: Mac®: Most Mac computers from 2008-2013 are compatible with the exception of the Mac Pro line. There are issues with 2014 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models as well as late 2013 iMac models, making them not compatible.

Is there any lag when recording using iOS on Garageband?

There is some lag that is noticeable in a recording in a professional environment. I wouldn't use it for that but if you want to use it to record to remember a riff, than sure, it'll do.
