MenFirst Gradual Gray Shampoo

Working really well for me. I am a 57 year old man with gray to white hair that was dark brown many years ago. I wanted something to gradually darken so the darkening would be less noticeable. As instructions and web site state 2-4 weeks for visible results, that is what I was anticipating. Instead, my wife could see visible changes after two days / applications. The next day, after another application, she was concerned people would start to notice. I am now disciplining myself to use it every few days so I don't get too dark too fast. I apply the shampoo first thing after getting in the shower. Then I shave, which takes about five minutes, then I wash, which takes another three minutes, then rinse everything. So shampoo stays in hair around eight minutes. It takes a lot longer to apply the shampoo than normal shampoo. This is due to thick consistency and desire to thoroughly get it evenly applied to all hair. I will update review if something goes wrong, but right now I am super pleased. My only challenge is not getting dark too fast. Three months later: Using it every day now. Still very happy. No one who doesn't know I am using it has commented on my darker hair. Good stuff. One year update: My usage over the past year has averaged about 6 of 7 days each week. No one except the few I have told are aware I am using it. No one has noticed due to the very gradual progression. I really like the fact that it retains, to a degree, the original light and dark shades of my hair to start with. It doesn't darken all the hair the same shade. This way it does not look dyed. In December I got the conditioner to try out. It is okay. I don't really see a use for it unless you are into extra super conditioning. The one impact it had for me for the two months I used it was to add extra darkness and lengthen the time it was in my hair, this caused my hair to get darker, quicker. I checked the price per ounce and it is close to the price of the shampoo. So if you want conditioner, use it. Otherwise you could get the same effect by applying more shampoo and leaving it in longer. I have added pictures so you can see how much darker the hair has become over the year.

Leave the Santa Claus look, or embrace going bald, but at all costs, do NOT buy this product. It comes out of the tube looking like dark jelly, with about the same consistency. The instructions say to leave it in for 5 minutes ... DON'T DO IT! In the interest of easing in very gradually, I left it in for 30 seconds ... and the skin under by beard now LOOKS GREENISH-BLACK, so even if the beard didn't darken appropriately, shaving it off is not an option. I washed my face for a really long time with shampoo, and the skin staining got lighter, but it is not gone. Thank god I can work from home for a few days, if needed. Not only does my face have a dark section underneath the beard, the dye doesn't work very well on the beard itself — maybe 10 percent of which looks a little darker. The rest of the tube went rightt in the trash — a lot of money spent to dye my face ... which was not the goal. This stuff is expensive and absolutely horrible.

Sadly...item turned my grey hair blue. Now I have to answer everyone as to why my hair is blue. They think I'm going through a punk rock phase. LOL

No, I'm not going to put a ridiculous before & after picture of myself. That being said I was more grey than my 51yr old version of myself really cares to have at this stage. After a couple of uses the gradual darkening did work & I'm happy with the results. With darker hair the gradual balding spot on the crown shows up more but at least I'm not totally grey & balding. Too bad this doesn't take care of regrowth at the same time. I plan to buy another tube after my current one runs out. I did buy the gel too but not planning on buying that again. ****update...I purchased a 2nd round after the first ran out. It's not the same as the first container I got. The first one had a nice scent & it didn't stain my hands. This new container is exactly the same on the outside but the shampoo stains my hands & the nice scent is not there. I'm not sure if they sent me an older container or if they ship a cheaper version after they get you hooked on it. Even the consistency of the shampoo is different. All this being said the color is still doing a good job on my hair & by the end of my shower my stained hands are pretty much back to normal. I plan to keep using it & I'll post an update when I get a 3rd container.

I purchased this product for the first time because I wasn’t able to find the product I normally use. The first time I used it I placed roughly 1-oz of the product in my wet hair and distributed it evenly. After no more than 30-seconds I could see a variety of dark stains on my skin and shower so I immediately washed it out. After shaking the 5oz bottle for several minutes to hopefully mix up the ingredients and mitigate the stain effects I tried it again using a little less product and a bit more care regarding what it came into contact with. After 1-minute my head looked black so I rinsed it out again. That took care of 90% of my grey hair and I am roughly 50% grey. The stains came out after washing my face and head several times and a thorough bleaching of my shower. It seems that people are experiencing widely varying results with this new version from not working at all to problems similar to mine. I am not sure if this is secondary to poor ingredient standards or if there is perhaps another variable (temperature, settling, poor chemical longevity, etc) causing such a wide range of quality issues, but it would be great if the manufacturer could isolate the issues and remedy the huge differences in product effectiveness. I will continue to use the rest of the bottle I purchased only do so in a more careful manner. This product is either very good or very bad, and the fact that there are many other reviews similar to mine and many others that rave about how great the product is makes be believe something is amiss with quality control.

I was allergic to just for men products, but I had no issues with this one and it’s working…

Used for 2 months without any result. I was previously using control gx which gave me lots of skin irritation on my forehead. My dermatologist advised me to stop control gx immediately. Then my skin condition significantly improved. After thorough search found this product Mensfirst on Amazon. Used for 2 months but no results. My hair became more grey.

If you think your going to look like Tom Cruz when you apply this to your hair for the first time, think again. On a more serious note this product does work but you will not see results first off follow the directions , after the 5th wash 5th day I was seeing results, my hair is still grey but now not white where it mostly was on the sides . I’m not looking to have dark hair with this product that would be unnatural it will be hard to pick you out of a crowd for using this darking product , not like some friends my age there hair looks Orange or a wine colour with there dye jobs. no thanks I’ll stick to the grey , it does what it says , makes your hair look darker I’m giving this a five star , for my hair still looks natural colour just not as grey now , great product works as it says , also when you use a hair product such as gel or moose it darkens it that much again. .

Is this shampoo worth 26$? No! Does it work? I have no idea. Why? Because it’s like applying dye on your hair: it’s difficult to squeeze out, it’s very hard and doesn’t lather at all. You need to squeeze out a great amount to be able to apply it on your hair. Are you washing your hair or dyeing it? Not sure because it’s terrible. I would definitely recommend not buying this. Try the controlgx instead. I feel like I wasted 26$ on something that I will throw to the garbage.
