Perkins quality
This was a birthday gift and being a veteran Prime member, I review my products carefully. Perkins used to be a great name several years ago but I checked out their current page and off-site reviews. Still quality and going strong from all I gathered. Then I noted their reminder to only buy from the Perkins Company in Amazon, as several other companies are offering "Perkins knives" but sending cheap knockoffs. I believe this accounts for some of the poor reviews, but all I can relay is my own pictures and experience to help you decide. 1. It was sent Monday a.m., and scheduled for his bday on Wednesday- it arrived Tuesday. (; Yes he opened it early. 2. He said (being a veteran Prime member himself for years) it was exceedingly well packaged. Blade had a rubber edge protector even. Blade: Some remarked it was dull out of the package, ours was razor sharp. Cut arm hair and paper with the lightest touch. Damascus - it does not have the cheap look or feel of a fake. The folding carries through naturally from one side to the other, across the back, etc. The pictures show this and the fact that it has a full tang. He said the weight was wonderful in his hand, the wood warm, the balance just right. He has handled expensive custom knives and this was in that league. Sheath: Rich smell of real leather, nothing oily about it, inside or out. Sticking, snap, et cetera, all good firm quality. Knife fit snugly into it, easy but not loose. The side holder for the sharpener was actually a little harder, but it fit tight. He said it wasn't going anywhere once in (as in it wasn't going to fall out while moving about). He tried it on, it sat nicely against the hip, did not jut at angle but rested comfortably against him, not too heavy at all. To summarize, Perkins came through for me at a crazy good price for a custom, we'll done knife. My birthday present exceeded expectations and I or him, could not be happier. Thank you!

Great knife--excellent value for the price
As to the previous comments about this knife arriving dull, perhaps the manufacturer fixed the sharpness issue after those reviews...mine arrived wicked sharp--only needed a bit of honing for a minor burr. This is a gorgeous piece of old-school craftsmanship. No complaints about the knife itself. The sheath is of very nice quality leather, and is well stitched. I do not like the design of the sheath and will have it modified, but the quality is great. Overall a very good value for the price I paid.

Love this knife. I've been wanting this gor about 3 years and every time someone asks what to get me I tell them this. Never got it, so I bought it my damn self. Great looks, feel and overall amazing. I have people asking about it everyday. Wish I had more knifes from this company

It's not awesome but it'll serve it's purpose.
Let me start by saying I'm a little let down however....................It was only $45 shipped. So my wife wanted this knife as a birthday present and so I bought it. There are however some cons with this knife. Let's start with the pros 1. The packaging was amazingly done no chance that any damage would come this be it weather or human error. 2. This knife is a thick full tang blade and the pattern is all the way through. 3. The wood is top notch and very beautiful. 4. The mosaic pins are well done and have a good hold. 5. It has a lanyard hole. Now for the cons of this knife. 1. the leather sheath makes this knife impossible to get out. The handle sits in the sheath along with the blade. 2. The finish on the blade itself is very rough. Yes this is Damascus however you should fish the metal to 400 then acid then to 2000 grit. You can feel every line in this pattern and some being deep. 3. There is a slight and tiny edge on this blade but not sharp and to get a truly sharp tool knife edge it will take some serious work. 4. Now this isn't really a con because well, it's Damascus but this pattern isn't even close. These are more closely to production line knives not hand smithed. A smith would have his patterns recorded so he could duplicate the process not leading to a blade that looks like a lazy attempt at damascus. All in all this knife has it's chance to be a good knife. But if you want a good fit a finish that will last and not have problems then this knife isn't for you. I advise to find a very reputable smith and dealer and be willing to pay for a good knife.

Not a very good knife in my opinion
Not a very good knife in my opinion. It was dull and no paperwork came on how to sharpen it. It is a great knife for advanced users, but not for your first knife.

SHARP & handy
Super sharp. I immediately took this knife out and put it to the test and it was great. Extremely sharp, beautifuly crafted, and stood up to hard use. It shaved wood and created a spark and stayed sharp.

Not buying
Thinking about buying this Perkin knife from UK Bushcraft? This knife has a beautiful pattern which looks exactly like the beautiful pattern I've seen on a cheap damascus steel blank from Pakistan advertised for less than 300 layers. I especially like the wood scales without any nickel or brass guard at the index finger to finish the blade. The prices on Perkin knives and from stuff being sold by UK Bushcraft could be so low because someone is going out of business. My check on Amazon's UK Bushcraft Store storefront showed a very brief but somewhat unconventional English style. Typically, a company that employs a lawyer would put out something with a lot more words. But when a foreign language makes a detour through a translation program, it is much more likely to be a little odd (it still had at least three grammatical errors and at least one spelling error). Most importantly, a check on the Perkin knives webpage shows English grammatical errors typical of a foreigner whose first language is not based on Latin roots. Remembering that China (with Pakistan next door) has mastered the art of making stainless steel that rusts more than iron, my decision not to buy was easy. If I ever want something from this region of the world crafted from glass, there will be no problem. Amazing things are being done with glass around that part of the world. If you don't believe me, go to an expensive bead store with your girlfriend and ask the owner how much he lost this year, buying authentic gemstones from India that broke when heated to the glass melting point. But buyer beware when shopping for even decent metal that originated over there. On a final note, there is a website for thebushcraftstore.co.uk that is legitimate. That they sell high quality brands for the usual prices was my first clue, that they do not sell anything by Perkin was my second. If anyone from that store reads this review, you probably already know someone is dragging your company name through the mud to sell unfinished, low quality stuff that looks pretty. Time to call your lawyers and have them talk to Amazon.com about their US website, Perkin knives and your company name. I'll probably send the legitimate UK based bushcraft store an e-mail, just to be sure.
