Why does this camera only record 4k video for 9 mins at a time?

This action camera only supports FAT32 format microSD card. FAT32 format MicroSD card stops recording when the storage of each file is over 4GB and starts to record again on a new file. That's why this action camera only records 4k video for 9 mins at a time.

What is the warranty ?

This action camera comes with one year warranty.

Is there a open skeleton frame to use the external microphone?

The V50x comes with a skeleton case with a slotted rear door replacement, but there is no opening to allow plugging in an external mic. As a note, the sound recording, even while in the completely waterproof case, is better than I had expected. If you're not worried about moisture, there is a threaded tripod mount on the bottom of the camera and an adapter that will allow you mount the camera without using the case.

Can you change the settings when camera is in water proof case? For example if kayaking and want to switch from video to photos?

Yes. There are "buttons" on the waterproof case that engage all four buttons on the camera (front, top, and 2 on the the side). With the waterproof case in use you lose access to the touchscreen on the back screen and cover the microphone port. To change the camera setting from video to photo, for example, touch the front button, use the side buttons to navigate to the image setting and use the top button to set it.
