Pastel Step by Step: Master the basic skills and special techniques of painting in pastel (Artist's Library)

It is very concise and is very easy to understand. I think more examples could have been given in the material section. It mentions archival paper, which I have a hard time figuring out what it is. More details on when to use hard/firm versus soft pastel in application will be great as well. For the constraint the author/artist had in the limited space/pages she needed to communicate on the subject, she did a great job.

I like all the directions & photos Marla wrote in the book. I would have preferred to pay more for a more detailed book that included more on flowers which are my passion.Thank you.

Just learning to paint and the step by step is easy to read and understand. Colour is my problem and I think this will help. I knew it may take time because of the chinese virus and I do appreciate the trouble it took to get it to me.Thank you.

Not a step by step, if you like Marla, take her YouTube classes. The book is just ok, there are other books so much better than this. I like Marla and her pastels, I didn’t like the book.

I use to enjoy drawing and painting in my younger years but my work life and my family kept me quite busy. Now that I'm retired I have time to play with these things again and I thought I would give pastels a try. This book gives me a good point to start at. It is very easy to understand and living in Maine I have plenty of projects to draw.

This is a great book for beginners and people like me who have come to pastels from other media.

Painting with chalk is a new hobby for me which Ifind relaxing & rewarding.
