Tilleys are the best
Tilley are the only hats I use. It is also true that I have never met anyone wearing a Tilley who will use anything else either. They are that good. I have an assortment of Tilleys, use them more or less daily. They are comfortable, sun-resistant, indestructible, and easily washed. I have never been able to wear one out, they are eternal. The broad-rimmed one is for Tropical, equatorial, high-altitude or other intense sun situations. I have used another one like it all over the world without any issue. For anywhere else, I use the more standard brim size. Bought this one so I can rotate them and have one that is a little less white. (birds don't love white...) Hey Tilley: could I have a green or darker gray one of these? You could probably sell a lot of them to birders and naturalists...

Recommended: Tilley Hats are the best choice out there
I've tried a few versions of Tilley hats over time. Tilley makes very high quality hats. Amazon has had some very good pricing on these hats. I was able to pick one up for $40. I decided I wanted to have hat with a wider brim than my LTM6 (Brim size: Front & back 3 ½”; Sides 2 ½” ) more winter months when the sun is lower in the sky. This LTM2 has a brim size: Front & back: 3 7/8"; Sides: 3 1/2". Like the LTM6 it has the following: - Sun protection - certified UPF 50+ - Air flow - 3/4" mesh around crown allows for extra ventilation - Guaranteed for life - they will actually replace it if you send in a hat that has fallen apart - Water-repellent finish keeps off the rain - Front & back wind cords system secures hat in gusty conditions. This is one of the best features on the LTM6 and LTM2. The way the cord is attached allows you to dial in a snug fit, keeping part of the cord in front of your head and part behind. This keeps your hat on your head in high wind (or in extreme wind it may blow off your head, but the cord will remain around your neck so you don't lose your hat). I haven't seen this feature in other brands. - Hydrofil® sweatband to wick moisture away - "Secret" pocket inside the hat to store small flat items - Buoyancy – stays afloat in water. The float material can be removed if you prefer not to have it in the hat in warmer months.

Great for dealing with the burning rays of the mid-day sun
After initially ordering this hat (fulfilled by Amazon), I had to return that order because the hat was delivered folded (i.e. ruined) and in a plastic bag which was too small to contain the hat other than being folded. I then placed a direct order via the Village Hat Shop (which also sells via Amazon) and the hat arrived via USPS in a large cardboard box and in perfect condition. While my wife says that the hat makes me look like a park ranger (due to the broad brim), I found that it did well to keep the sun off of my face, neck, and even some of my shoulders. This is a great hat to deal with the intense mid-day sun but perhaps not so good for windy days or for more extreme activities. I also bought the Tilley LTM6 (also via the Village Hat Shop) for more more intense activities like hiking through the woods.

Packaging Fail
I am having to rewrite this review, because Amazon rejected it since it was mainly focused on "packaging." Here's what I had written: I was excited to get this Tilley hat in the mail. I snagged it on sale at a good price (in my opinion). However, the packaging smooshed the hat and I cant get it to fix. The brim was misshaped as well upon opening, but I got it to lay flat after a day or two. I had written more, but in the email notification stating my review was rejected, the rest of the text got cut off. Basically, the hat is smooshed and won't reshape. This is a key aspect that is relevant to my review and the main reason for my return. However, since Amazon requires commentary on the product itself, let's talk about how the hat fit. Because the hat was smooshed, the hat looked really strange on my head. I measured my head as Tilley recommends and ordered approx 2cm larger as instructed. This made the hat too big. I gave it to my husband to try, but it was too small for him. So, since the hat doesn't fit either one of us perfectly and it is deformed, I returned it back to Amazon. We'll see if this version of my review gets published or not. Bottomline, beware of how the hat comes packaged, and perhaps reconsider ordering 2cm larger as suggested by Tilley. The approx 2cm extra made it too big for me and I even ordered a size a little less than the full 2cm larger. I ordered this hat to be packable for an upcoming trip. Packability is questionable.

Best on light-wind days
Fits well, like a prior Tilley I have, with a fair-bit larger brim for more shade when the sun is lower (morning/evening). Main downside is that the brim is a bit floppy in wind, and likes to take-off if the strap is not tight.

Like Everything About It
Tilly hats are one of my most liked things clothing wise. I bought one of the originals with the button up sides back in the 90's and was hooked. A Tilly hat and a good pair of hiking boots will get you through anything. Maybe a towel around your waist if you're modest. To business. I live in the desert and have traveled all over this continent and some in SE Asia doing outdoor photography so I put hats to the test. Tillys are the best. I especially like this one because it's a little less "Indiana Jones" looking than most Tillys. I have another airflow it holds its shape well. This one is a little sloppier but in a good way. The brim is a bit floppy and the extra length of it is noticeably cooler in the hot sun. Another thing to note is that although pointed, the crown is almost round. So that helps loose the Indy feel as well.. it's personal preference but I like this look. Thats a side by side comparison to the Tilly LTM6. Definitely rounder. Given my getting older and how durable Tillys are this will probably be my last hat to buy. I am good with my choice. Maybe I will have them bury me in it someday!

Loose thread around the brim.
My first hat was made in Canada and it was perfect but i lost it after many years of wear and travel. The replacement hat i bought is responsibly made in China. Not sewn as perfectly as my original hat. But still grateful it did it’s job protecting me rain or shine. Just sad it wasn’t as great as my husband’s who still has his and still looking better than mine.

Excellent Sun Protection and Comfortable Enough for Long Wear
I’ve been wearing the Tilley LTM2 Airflo Hat regularly during outdoor time, and it’s been especially helpful during periods when sun protection needed to be taken more seriously, including during chemotherapy when skin can become more sensitive. The hat is very lightweight and breathable, even in warmer weather. The mesh ventilation really helps with airflow, so it doesn’t feel hot or stuffy the way many wide-brim hats can. It also stays comfortable for long stretches, which matters when you’re spending extended time outside and don’t want to constantly adjust or take it off. The brim offers strong, reliable coverage for the face, ears, and neck, which gives a lot of peace of mind in direct sun. The fit is secure without being tight, and the adjustable sizing helps it stay in place even on windy days. Another thing I appreciate is the durability—it holds its shape well and feels like it will last for years rather than a single season. It’s also easy to clean and maintain, which is useful for something worn frequently outdoors. The only downside is that it’s not the most compact hat to pack, and the style is very functional rather than fashion-forward. But for serious sun protection, that tradeoff is worth it. Overall, this is a high-quality, comfortable hat that does exactly what it’s designed to do: protect you from the sun while staying wearable for long periods.
