O'NEILL Men’s Basic Skins UPF 50+ L/S Sun Shirt

These shirts are amazing. I bought in black and white as well. I prefer the black as the white looks likes I’m cutting glass when I get cold and wet. But still, I bought both before my trip to Punta Cana. I was outside for hours in the pool and never got burnt. I would recommend these for any trip where you plan on being out in the sun or in the water for hours. Its not to warm and the material is silky so now that my trip is over, I just wear around the house or to bed as its just warm enough for the air conditioner. Will most likely buy this shirt in other colors as its crazy comfortable. It is form fitting not loose fit which I thought it was but ultimately worked out.

This is my second O'Neill rashguard/swim shirt and it is top quality (one is short sleeve, and now this LS). There is a lot of variance in customer comments about fit and effectiveness, so here is my experience. I typically wear a size Large or sometimes XL depending on the brand/cut. SIZE/FIT: A Carhart cotton t-shirt size Large fits me loosely, while a Riggs t-shirt size Large is snug but still fits. I bought this O'Neill rash guard shirt as a 2XL hoping it would fit a bit loose and it does. A Large for me in the O'Neill would be tight and form fitting, not quite a compression fit. An XL would be better for a snug fit for swimming laps, etc. But I like the looser fit of the 2XL as a beach shirt that also works fine for casual swimming. So I would think you probably want to buy one size larger than your normal t-shirt size for the same type of fit. Buy your regular size for a near-compression fit. And buy two sizes larger for a loose fit. EFFECTIVENESS: I've worn this O'Neill shirt swimming in a pool for three hours in mid-day summer sun (95 degree F) with zero burning and hardly even any additional tan. I am fair skinned with freckles so sensitive to sunburn. On my face I liberally coated with SPF 50 sunscreen and it got very tanned, almost but not quite red. BUT, underneath the O'Neill shirt I was totally protected, much better than the SPF 50 sunscreen. Our grandkids wear O'Neill rashguard shirts at the ocean beach and play all afternoon without sunburn on shoulders or backs. These are also great for swimming or beach strolling when the temperature dips and the wind picks up and provide a little more warmth than just bare skin. QUALITY: These have lasted for a long time for our grandkids. Since they stretch a lot they have worn the same ones for three years while still growing, in both chlorine pools and ocean saltwater. The seams are well sewn and non-irritating, though not totally flat. It is a very tight weave and I've never seen them get snagged or torn at the beach or pool. It has a slick texture. I'm sure every brand has a small percentage of errors that slip through, but the six or so that we have bought have all been top quality in materials and construction.

Good fit, well made

I have purchased two these shirts. They work incredibly well for swimming in the ocean or pool and protect my skin against the sun. I typically wear a medium, so I ordered a small so it would be more snug and less drag.

I wore this swim shirt in the Sierras during 90+ degree weather for a week straight. Fishing, swimming, and hiking every day. It was comfortable and easy to move in. I swam every day and the shirt dries very quickly in the sun. Not a hint of sunburn, even when wet. I'm 5'10, 165lbs, and the medium was a perfect fit (snug/skin tight). The shirt still looks new after a week of daily use. I ended up washing/drying in the machine, and it didn't fall apart. I have high hopes that it will last a few seasons at least.

Bought this shirt for a recent vacation in Florida and worked out great. Comfortable in the water ,but not hot while walking on beach in 96-100 degree sunshine. Most important, the sun did not penetrate the 50 SPF material. Bought my usual men’s size medium and fit was not too loose, not too tight.

So I picked up three of these and I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, you can immediately feel the sunblock working (wore them in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴) when I put them on. I needed some protection from the sun at times and these worked very well. I felt extremely comfortable walking around the beach -- did not make me hot or sweat since it kinda keeps you cool. Then into the water and surprisingly, wearing them out of the water was nice too. They dried quickly while adding to the cooling effect. Although they are not specifically designed for swimming, I found them perfect for it. Rash guards are better for swimming yes, but not for just walking around -- a little too tight. All in all, I used all three and will continue to use them each time we go down to the beach.
