This knocks spots off Marmite or any other yeast extract I have tried. Quite a light brown, easy to spread and sublime taste. Only problem is that it's outrageously expensive.

Another gem of a find on the great carousel of wonders available in the Bezos Bonanza of dreams. I remember this from childhood in Germany. There’s no taste quite like it. Nostalgia in a jar. Delivery took a while longer than expected but it was all worth the wait.

I rarely if ever buy single item foodstuffs on line but I make an exception for this. It's the only yeast extract I can bear to eat on toast! It's also great to add a lovely dark (dare I say 'meaty') sweetness to gravies and casseroles. An essential store-cupboard item

To me, this is not just some product. It is not only the most delicious low salt yeast extract out there, but in my mind it has an almost mythical quality; it is the end of a quest for this holy grail of marmite which all began 15 years ago. Allow me to tell the tale. I was sat about with my cousins and brothers one warm summer's day, sharing anecdotes. One of (I don't remember who) suddenly asked, "Do you remember grandfather's marmite?" We all learned forward, the memories of that savoury yet sweet and wholly unique spread coming back through the fog of two decades. We decided to find that fabled extract. Grandfather was the first port of call, "I can't remember," he said, "Your grandmother used to buy it". Sadly, she was long dead and we feared she had taken this knowledge to the grave with her. Another family member told us it was a low salt yeast extract and this led us on a long journey around local shops, health food stores and supermarkets. Nothing quite matched the taste. We even started to mix odd brands of yeast extract, trying to capture that magical flavour. Some had the aftertaste, some had the savoury part, some had the sweetness but nothing held that flavour in its majestic wholeness. Finally, and as a desperate last gambit, we went to an obscure health food shop in a nearby town. We approached the storekeeper and, expecting ridicule, asked, "Have you ever heard of Grandfather's marmite?". A pause, was that a smirk? "So..." he said, learning forwards conspiratorially, "You must be Conrad's grandchildren?" Relief and surprise washed over us in equal measure. I truly expected to be led into some secret back room, to be inducted into some ancient order of this holy low salt grail. Sadly, he told us he doesn't stock it. But he told us its name: VitamR Essentials yeast extract. This was before Amazon, before the internet as we know it. Back then we found our sources through word of mouth and esoteric wholesalers. Whispers of it being in some shop in Bristol here, rumours of it being on some obscure German website there. It would pop up on the market like some timid creature, only to disappear just as quickly. Now we have this luxurious product here on Amazon, sometimes it goes out of stock, but that's nothing compared to the difficulty finding it in the past. I will be ordering my next batch tout suite because I am feeling those withdrawals already.
