Egyptian Colloquial Arabic Vocabulary

I'm not an expert in Arabic to say the least. But I've tried tons of resources in other languages, and this is by far one of the easiest to use and complete beginners reference. The lists are grouped in an intuitive way to supplement learning vocabulary for a specific topic. The quality of transliterations is consistent and easy to follow. The quality of the physical paper and size of the book also make it pleasant to look threw for study or reference. This is a must buy for anyone early in their journey to learn Egyptian Arabic.

This book is invaluable to use as a reference and fun even just to browse through. I'd unabashedly recommend the Kindle version so you can use it on your computer and do searches. You can browse using the index, but then you'd have to find the right word in each section anyway — searching is very fast.Chances are, if a word you need isn't in this book, then you don't need it to get by and you should just be explaining yourself in some other way!There is a long list of verbs in this book, with notation on the relevant conjugation table. Unless you intuitively know how to conjugate all spoken Egyptian Arabic verbs (it can get a bit gnarly), you'll need a separate book for this. There are two verb books, and I'd recommend the Big Fat Book. Even though it doesn't lay out verb tables, you can mostly just use the verbs in that book, or find one that matches the pattern you're looking for (again, using search).Long story short, get this book.

I bought Egyptian Arabic Diaries, Egyptian Arabic Verbs, Egyptian Arabic Vocabulary, Arabic Stories 1 & 2. Downloaded the audio files through the Lingualism site. Excellent quality, rich material, original pronunciation (hint: play the audio at low speed in your VLC, at normal speed you can't get anything on first pass).The side by side original script transliteration (pronunciation guide), literal english translation and arabic script is exactly what I am looking for!!! It is missing in all other books.All in all, these books are EXCELLENT, are the BEST out there to enrich your vocabulary in egyptian arabic.Two hints for beginners....1. These books are not for beginners. They don't have grammar, so you cannot follow up on the syntax at all. Go first for a beginners book with grammar like Ultimate Arabic or something else2. These books (except Arabic Stories 1 and 2) DON'T TEACH modern standard arabic but only the egyptian dialect which is way different from MSA.In conclusion VERY SATISFIED and looking forward to more books from these editions. Keep up the good work!!!!

This is an excellent resource and primary learning book. I have learned dozens of words and phrases by browsing this book. It was invaluable during my Egypt travels.

Clear Arabic letters--not the tiny, hard to read letters in so many books. Good transliteration and , of course, the English. It is up-to-date. The kind of vocabulary you need for day to day living. I downloaded the recording of the dictionary from the publisher website. The book also has a bunch of pages for you to write any special vocabulary that you need. It is 277 pages the size of a standard book. I am glad I have it.

I love the way this book is organized. I use it as a source of reference.

Basically this spoken language is written down for you to use as a dictionary so this one plus the Big Fat Book and you should be set on vocab.
