Read more About the Author Ken Black is currently Professor of Decision Sciences in the School of Business at the University o Houston-Clear Lake. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and raised in Missouri, he earned a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from Graceland College, a Master's degree in math education from the University of Texas at El Paso, a Ph.D. in business administration in management science, and a Ph.D. in educational research from the University of North Texas. Since joining the faculty of UHCL in 1979, Professor Black has taught all levels of statistics courses, forecasting, management. In 2005, he was awarded the President's Distinguished Teaching Award for the University. He has published twenty journal articles and over twenty professional papers, as well as two textbooks: Business Statistics: An Introductory Course and Business Statistics: Contemporary Decision Making. He is presently serving as President of the Council of Professors at UHCL. Buy the 5th edition, and save money!
I am in an MBA program that required the new (6th) edition of this book for my course. They wanted $189+ tax for it at my local university bookstore, and (being a savvy business student) I used the power of supply and demand to save money by buying the 5th edition. After working with fellow students that purchased the 6th edition with the included disk (which I'll get to in a moment), I haven't noticed any major differences. With that being said, I can't speak to the order of sample problems. We do not do problems out of the book, so they might be slightly renumbered between editions (though I doubt it). The chapters and content layout seem to be nearly identical, and the concepts are essentially the same. I find this text very difficult to follow, and poorly written. I don't tend to understand what I read until my professor presents the material in class. After seeing my professor use various diagrams and simplified equations in class, I can't figure out why the author didn't use them as well. The bottom line is that this book is not "easy" to learn from, and you probably won't enjoy cracking it open after lecture. It does contain the necessary formulas and content to build skills, but they are not presented very well.A word about the disk-My book did not include the disk that is supposed to supplement the text, so this is only what I have been told by other students. They said that the disk is worthless, and that you have to pay additional money to access anything of use on it. I would save your money, and seek free info from online resources. I have bought books in the past with disks, and they never seemed to help me much.

It is a nice book, i little hard subject for me, lolBut the book is fine, hard copy which i always prefer, i would recommend i guessfor someone looking for this book

This was a good book I used it a couple semesters ago I really learned a lot from it... Its an older version but it works

Stats!
The book is well written. The author kept the narration relevant to issues the business manager faces today. The sample problems are very instructive. There are inputs at the end of each chapter of how to use Excel and Minitab to solve the problems. I struggled with Stats in Undergrad. Ready now for the MBA class!!! Bring it on!!
