Yes. This item will handle the .223 & 6.5. It comes with 6 pilots .22 cal, 6 mm, 6.5 mm, 270 cal, 7 mm, .30 cal. The collet that holds the base of the case will hold different sizes. You don't need a separate collet for each and every case. Excellent trimmer very accurate. Enjoy! Safe reloading!

Kedding 2400, is there a trimmer extension provided in the accessories in order to trim pistol cartridges?

No. Mine just had the extra pilots, primer hole cleaner, neck brushes. I don't reload pistol, but the shafts have a lot of room to adjust length. It may trim pistol without any other attachments. You may want to check with Redding.

Do you need to buy the shell plate for the cal you are sizing

It has a collet type holder that centers and clamps most any case. The "Lathe" in its name is very accurate to the way it works turning the case to ensure accuracy.
