Terminator Salvation restores some of the balance of huge freakin' explosions and emotionally compelling plot to the Terminator series. Set entirely after the nuclear assault that left the computer system Skynet in control of the world, Terminator Salvation follows John Connor (Christian Bale) as he grapples with both murderous robots and his superiors in the resistance, who aren't sure they believe the prophecies that Connor is destined to save humanity. Into the midst of this struggle tumbles Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington, who would later star in James Cameron's Avatar ); the last thing he remembers was being executed in prison decades before. Baffled, he falls into company with Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin, Star Trek ) and a mute little girl, who soon get captured--but Wright then meets and bonds with Blair Williams (Moon Bloodgood, Eight Below ), a resistance fighter who remains loyal to the confused Wright even though Connor suspects he's not what he seems--or what he believes himself to be. Terminator Salvation isn't the astonishing synthesis of action and feeling that either The Terminator or T2 were; the plot threads are poorly woven and fray completely in the last third of the movie. Despite this, Terminator Salvation has at least two skillfully orchestrated action sequences that will get your heart racing, and Worthingtonโs beguiling mixture of toughness and vulnerability gives his relationship with Bloodgood a genuine pulse. It's imperfect, but compared with the hollow carcasses that most action movies (including Terminator 3 ) turn out to be, it's worth seeing. --Bret Fetzer Review: good flick - I don't understand the hate for this movie, I thought it was a very good flick, Sam Worthington did an awesome job in it, good plot. Post-Judgement Day Entertainment
I won't convolute this review for Terminator Salvation with my opinions about the other films in the series, the Terminator mythology, or what have you; I'll simply say that - even as a stand alone film - Terminator Salvation... is very good. Sure, it's driven, to a degree, by special effects and action with choice little bits tossed to long-time fans, but I found it to be an entertaining, well-made film. And the story is good also. Foretold leader of the resistance against the machines John Connor (Christian Bale) is NOT the main character; though his role is not insignificant (or poorly acted, in my opinion). The film focuses more on the newly-introduced character Marcus Wright (as portrayed by Sam Worthington); whose part in the film serves as an interesting standard for comparison against the John Connor that survived Judgement Day and has seen war. I'd say Terminator Salvation is not about metallic, single-minded killing machines, great action, or obligatory explosions; though it certainly is not lacking in these things. It's ultimately a story about moral responsibility, strength of character, and - humanity. These subjects play out from the perspective of Marcus as well as Connor, and neither character comes off as one-dimensional. Really I'm making more of an attempt to avoid spoiling the film than I am to exaggerate its themes; it is, boiled down to basics, a solid action film fueled by great special effects. The "Terminator" is still a unique and frightening "movie monster," and John Connor is a brave man struggling against seemingly impossible odds. Add to the mix Marcus Wright, a man with a shameful past and an unexpected second chance, and you have a worthwhile film with characters in which you want to believe and follow throughout the course of the storyline. Yes, I've been fairly vague, but I encourage anyone that has so much as even considered seeing the film to give it a chance. And anyone who just plain appreciates well-done action, movie magic, or creepy human-exterminating robots from the future (I know I do) shouldn't pass up Terminator Salvation either. Now that I've done my best to make a case for this movie, I'll address something else: with the blu-ray version (I can not speak for the DVD version) you get both the PG-13 theatrical version of the film and the R-rated "director's cut." Having watched both, I'll say that the PG-13 version isn't really less-satisfying, and the R-rated version didn't seem to add so much "adult" content as to even warrant the upped rating. I'd say that all three of the previous Terminator films were bloodier. Of course, this film (unlike its predecessors) is more action than thriller, so it makes sense. And the "worst" thing added to the R-rated version of Salvation is some brief (and not especially showy) female nudity.

Don't believe the movie databases; excellent acting and an engaging story line.
I don't really understand why this movie does not get better reviews (more stars) than it gets in movie databases. I always enjoy watching it. Excellent acting and an engaging story line.

terminator with a vision
I really enjoyed this movie. I think it was the best one I saw that year. The story was straight sci fi. The new vision of the terminator movie has a awesome variety of terminators. They are done from a motorcycle type to a human skeleton type to a huge space ship type. The visuals are very dark sort of like the last 2 alien movies were done. Also I saw the late Stan Winston worked on the movie. I think he did a lot of special effects in the alien movies. I think he did the alien queen in aliens. Anyway the special effect are really well done. I could forget about reality and just watch the screen and go to another place. That is when the special effects are done well. Also the world was well done and you could tell they spent the money to design many sets and have many location to keep the viewer interested. I compare the visuals of the world to that of Alien 3 or Alien Resurection. The music is done well and is very emotional. It was done by Danny Elfman. The acting and story was top notch. It is a story of sacrifice and redemption. The two leads Sam Worthington and Christian Bale were exceptional. Christian Bale is always good at getting you to care for his character. I think he is an actor that can bring out a lot of emotions for the viewer. I thought Sam Worthington was very good at this also in this movie. The woman Moon Bloodgood was good also and believable in her role. Anton Yelchin was also very good in his role. Also this movie had very mild cussing and the violence and content was not trashy or overdone. Which I think the last terminators went overboard on this. Recommended to families to watch with children over 13. I think the parents won't find anything objectionable. If you haven't seen this due to hearing that it wasn't good. Give it a chance. I liked it, maybe you will too. Kevin

Admirable entry
I am a huge fan of the Terminator series. The second movie being my personal favorite and also just my favorite movie of all time. 'Nuff said. That being said, it's hard for me to watch a Terminator and be... impartial I guess you could say cuz I love this series so damn much. That first Terminator movie was incredible and you were really hoping to see more of the incredible story unfold. After Judgment Day, I would always wonder what the hell happened to the movies?! At the very least, there were plenty of Terminator comics you could follow. I never actually read them cuz I was just a kid and had no idea of there existence until more recently... I've gotten side tracked... Uhhh I read Robocop vs Terminator though. That was awesome. OK back on track: Flash forward some 12 years I see a commercial for another Terminator movie. Well its about damn time. I saw it, thought it was dope few things coulda been done differently but I didn't care. The franchise had finally been revived. So all that side tracking and talking about movies and comics that have nothing to do with the rating of this movie brings me to... this movie. Terminator Salvation. As I was walking out of the theater, I thought it was an incredible movie and they did absolutely no wrong with it. We're finally seeing what we've been waiting to see since Kyle Reese talked about the future way back in the first movie. Now I gotta step back and attempt to impartiality. This is gonna be tough... OK visually; stunning. Bale as John Connor; I've heard it before and I agree. His stoic acting needed to go somewhere. Nothing against him as an actor cuz I enjoy the stuff he's done but I don't feel like he portrayed John Connor the way he should have. Also, its gotta be rough hiding that accent and trying to act a certain way so I'll just chalk it up to that. Ok, the story; Yeah, it was pretty weak.(Spoilers) Exactly what I mean by that is that the machines knowing of Kyle Reese's existence and even capturing him and not offing him that very second didn't make any sense. That would have been the end of everything right there. I have no beef with Marcus' character either. Considering all the changes that happened in the past, it makes sense for something new to emerge in this altered future. It's also cool cuz you have this guy who lost his humanity to Skynet and wants to take names because of it. I think that about covers it. Giving this movie 3 stars makes me feel dirty though. If it were possible to give it 3 and a half I would

Terminator Savation : Mostly great movie with a few flaws.
Terminator Salvation is a great movie and the number 4 of this saga started in 1984 , mostly it reach its target but make a few errors in my point of view like two Terminator models are more like The Transformers (Motobot and Hydrobot). The story is very good and the special effects are simply amazing also the bonus material are not too bad since the Blu-Ray offer menu navigation beyond what simple DVD can do but you should get your Firmware updated for best viewing experience. If you are a fan of Terminator movies i strongly suggest you get also Terminator 4 : Salvation but you should get also Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray and see another Female Terminator called Cameron. The Sarrah Connor Chronicles get deep inside the concept of who , why and how Terminators have been created something the movies cant achives even when it get a long duration movie get Terminator : The Sarrah Chronicles are 31 Episodes of 45 minutes each. Finally to enjoy all of the Terminators movies you must accept to take the time to view them slowly one at a time and if you look around you Skynet the internet network around us is getting the control slowly of all what we use everyday so maybe not to far away from real .... The Movies in Theaters or TV Series about Terminator cant offer what it is available on Blu-Ray : the bonus materials and total control of viewing experience of course buying is more expensive that rental but if you want to be a movie collector that not too expensive. Also if you buy it before december 2010 you get a free download of the movie from iTunes on Mac and also there is an option for PC Windows Users , i use Mac so get a legal copy on my iPhone and it take only about 5 minutes to download and weight about 1.4 Gb in size.

Dont listen to the negative reviews; judge for yourself and you will be suprised.
Thank heavens they where brave enough to break awy from the tired formua of the last 3 movies. Sure the original Terminator was a classic; and the follow-up was a good sequel; but T3 was extremely poor and cheesey but maybe that was partly becuase they were going over the same old ground. What they should of done in T3 was to break away from the old Terminator-sent-back-in-time routine. From now on; when watching the Terminator series of films you should just leave out T3. The actual makers of this 4th movie have even stated that they made this film as a follow-on from film 2; they have completely disregarded the third film ..... as should we; it was that bad and almost ruined the franchise. Terminator 4 then is a refreshing change from the routine. No longer a film from the prespective of the past (our present) they are now telling the story of the future and mans resistance to the machines years after 'Judgement Day'. What is really clever however is that they have also turned the formua in on itself by making the past come to the present although not through any time machine. The action is excellent without getting too over the top. The scenes with the actual early-version terminators are also impressive .... especially since these earlier models being built before Skynet perfected linking living-tissue too machine; making them look almost like zombies or some super-mutant from the Fallout video-games. Honestly, if most people watch this movie with an open mind they will find a film that lives up very well with the first 2 movies and is a lot, lot better than the 3rd. The acting is decent, theres nothing wrong with the script, its not too over-the-top, the characters are interesting and overall this film is an intelligently achieved break from the tired old fomua. Good film.

Impressive
This film has taught me to not be put off by bad critical reviews since I was impressed with it and if you love sci fi and have followed the earlier films then I suggest that you can't fail to like this one. A lot of new machines are introduced and also we see the old model T600 terminator in action (I assume the ones that don't pass for human mentioned in T1 with either no skin or rubber skin). The actors who play Marcus Wright and Kyle Reese are excellent and I like the relationship that develops between the two of them as Marcus teaches Kyle some useful tricks. Christian Bale has received some bad press about his tantrum when a guy disturbed his concentration at a crucial point in a take but when you see how he gets so deep into the part that he absolutely is John Connor you can understand his anger at the interruption (especially since I understand that this was the second time the guy had interrupted him). Bale is excellent as Connor and whether by accident or design he sounds a bit like his father Kyle Reese in T1 when his emotions are rising when speaking to his commander. Of course a coach and horses is driven through any time travel rules with Kyle Reese standing next to his older son John Connor but you can forgive that as poetic license in this case since this is such good entertainment. One critic said that there's none of the light relief of Arnie humour in T4 but these people don't seem to understand that sequels have to be different or what's the point? Some surprises / unexpected twists complete this awesome film.
