Discover Bellydance

I used to have this set on VHS tapes. I love how easy they break the steps down and teach how to belly dance. It is a great form of exercise that is fun. This Grandmother is happy to have it again on DVD to work out with.

May be the best you can get short of classes.I live in an area that up until a few months ago had no middle eastern dance instructors within less than a 1 hour radius. Since I didn't have a car, I couldn't take the weekly classes one hour away or more. I had only taken one, four hour workshop and had a few lessons from my friend and her mother previous to getting this set. Veena and Neena really helped me out. The warm-ups were relaxing and easy and once you got to learning the moves each one was shown briefly so you could see what you were going to learn, then broken down, then repeated at an increasing pace. I found that the voice over made it easier to concentrate than having them talk to you directly, as specialy because there were two of them and switching around would have been distracting. At the end of each tape you are taught a simple choreography which is first broken down, then rehearsed at it's normal pace with the music, and lastly Veena and Neena perform it in costume. I liked the music, which I don't think sounded like porn music or whatever that other person said. It sounded middle eastern, and the tempo of the music always matched what was going on and set a pace for you. Overall I thought the videos were not too short or too long and easy to learn with practice.A few months later I was pulled up to dance with dancer Suspira at the Marakesh. After her show she came to my table and complimented me, and even seemed amazed that most of what I learned was through videos! When I began classes a few months after that, my teacher was also impressed and I found that the moves being taught in class were easy to learn because I already knew the basics and was already loose and flexible, which is difficult for most beginners because they are not used to moving that way. This set is a good jump start, but if you want to go anywhere with bellydance make sure to take classes.

I love Neena and Veena's videos and they are really great for exercise and really give the body and muscles a workout. I know of someone who actually lost 100 lbs. by changing her eating and using these as exercise and in the process became a really good belly dancer. I've seen some feedback about the moves having too much hand and veil work for it to feel like a true exercise video, etc. One thing you have to understand is that the Belly Twins are first and foremost, Belly Dancers and that is what they do and teach; they aren't exercise instructors. Most beginner Belly Dancers buy these videos to learn the basic moves and novice/inter. moves because they can't afford classes 3 or 4 times a week and if your in California, you can't afford Veena and Neena! lol! Don't get me wrong, these are great for getting the blood pumping, the sweat going and muscles toning to lose weight but if that is the only reason you are buying them, you may be somewhat disappointed if you expect instructed "Jane Fonda-ish" type videos. These videos are really primarily to TEACH Belly dance moves and sequences. Even the exercise videos are really just for making sure you don't injure yourself doing the moves of belly dancing. If you want to learn how to do authentic Belly Dance moves, impress your friends and yourself, or seduce your man or just plain have fun, these are perfect for that. If you want just a exercise video for losing weight, these are probably not the ones for you. Sorry. I love these videos because they are fun, I've always wanted to learn to Belly Dance AND I really need a fun way to exercise to lose weight. I plan on continuing in Belly Dance once I feel more confident, lose some serious weight, and can find a good instructor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. LOL!

I am not coordinated enough for these videos. They make it look so simple and elegant but I can't seem to get the footwork and spinning or other movements down, even after so many years of having these videos. But I do love Veena and Neena

I got this video series to tone up. I had abdominal surgery several months ago, and the scars were making me feel as "un"sensual as possible. AND -- I'll fess up -- I'm not a toothpick girl with a flat tummy or a tiny rear end. I'm a regular gal who looks nice in a size 8. I was a little nervous about trying something that required my pale, scarred middle to be out in the open.After practicing the series every day for 4 weeks, I lot 4 inches off my tummy, and 3 inches off my rear. My clothes fit better, and I look forward to practicing every day. I hate to exercise, by the way... but I really like this series. The dancing distracts you from the actual exercise you're getting.Veena and Neena look like real, honest-to-god women, with a little bit of lower-tummy padding, and a just right amount on their upper ams and hips. They aren't frail little toothpick women like you often see on t.v. shows [cue Callista] or typical workout videos. That they were proud of their curves was a huge inspiration for me to bare my tummy too.Someone mentioned the "voice over" instructions being impersonal. I can only say that I am practically deaf, wearing a hearing aid, and a cochlear implant, and I was able to clearly understand everything being said without using closed captioning.I found the videos to be both challenging and fun. Each video has its own costumes and choreography; you won't be bored by repetitiveness between the 3 videos. I recommend it, even if the music is slightly cheesy.

This is my other favourite belly dancers. It is a must have for belly dancing beginners. Fast delivery!

My bellydance DVD came on the first day of the estimated delivery time span. I have done the first disc a few times and find their teaching style and the coreography to be far superior to another belly dance DVD I had used. They break up the steps based on part of the body so that you can easily find the move you want to practice. I have done a live belly dancing class before and I find some of the instruction in this DVD superior.

Video is great, shows you how to belly dance really easily! The instructor breaks down each movement for you. Of course I do need to practice lots more.
