I would only use it when needed. To much protien causes your hair to be easy to break and damaged. So you have to maintain a protein moisture balance.

Yes, you need to shampoo with a special shampoo at least twice

Could this replace a conditioner after a wash or would you rinse this product out and follow with a conditioner?

You have to wash the product out and follow with a conditioner... Keratin protein treatments are used to strengthen the hair, but if used in an excessive amount it can cause the hair to become dry brittle and break off even more due to protein overload.
