Organic Chemistry

I have been a university professor for over 30 years. I bought the first edition of McMurry's Organic Chemistry and loved it. It has become thicker and it has many more pages than that first edition, but of course it covers many more topics. This book has been my personal favorite over the years. Other OC textbooks that I like are Fox and Whitesell's and Bruice's. The one I don't particularly care for is Vollhardt's: too much stuff crammed in the book and a writing style that doesn't make it very easy for students to follow. It's fine as a reference, but in my opinion it's not that great for those who have to study directly from the book. But of course you may disagree with me! At any rate, I think that McMurry's OC is a fantastic book. Period.

This is such a wonderful and very helpful tool for doing well in organic chemistry as it helped me a lot when I took two semesters of organic chemistry, as well as did the solutions manual for the textbook and do purchase the textbook and solutions manual together as both are a must in order to be successful in organic I and II! There were a few instances within certain chapters of the text that could have been just a bit more specific while providing just a little bit more detail, is my only other feedback and/or comment that I would like to add on and point out. Thank you so much for this wonderful resource along with the solutions manual that goes with this textbook!

Important information for the access card: if your professor is using Cengage through Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, Desire 2 Learn, or your school's learning management system, then this access card will work. BUT, if your professor is using Cengage through the Cengage website, this access card will not work. I unfortunately bought this access card and book package thinking that it would work and it didn't in my case, so ask your professor before to avoid this.

This book singlehandedly gave me an A in Orgo. Great purchase!

You can find a pdf of this on the internet somewhere and save yourself over a 100 dollars. The book was okay in terms of explaining concepts, although the organization of the topics within made it a little difficult to understand the concepts.

The textbook i received is very good according to the description. I am satisfied.

Great book, really helps with understanding

A highly specialised book not quite easy to read, but full of artful graphics. The reader should therefore have knowledge of basics of Chemistry

Just as good as new, like the hand-me-down textbooks used in high school. Will definitely consider getting more textbooks from this distributer :)

25 years ago, I was learning organic chemistry from a Boyd and Morrioson textbook. I've always wanted to read a McMurry's book. I'm doing this now for intellectual entertainment during the lockdown. Even complicated issues have been explained in a very accessible way. Despite the fact that I have not had contact with chemistry for over 20 years, everything is understandable to me
