![Soap - The Complete Series [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81GhpnJrGjL.jpg)

Product Description This controversial sitcom defined the late '70s and was an instant classic! With it's combination of implausible plots, exaggerated melodrama and a liberal dose of wackiness, this parody of TV soap operas was both popular and critically acclaimed, winning 4 Emmy Awards and 17 nominations. Surprises and shenanigans abound between the families of two sisters, Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell, where each family member is either crazy, involved in an incriminating secret, or both. The unparalleled cast features Katherine Helmond (TV's Who's the Boss?), Richard Mulligan (TV's Empty Nest), Robert Guillaume (TV's Benson), Cathryn Damon (TV's Webster), Robert Mandan (The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas), and Billy Crystal (When Harry Met Sally). Review One of the '70s most groundbreaking sitcoms --Thomas Useted, PopMatters Review: Great show!!! Love it! - I was 9 years old when this show came out. Ignore the packaging, you're getting what you pay for... and it's TV gold...
While the cardboard packaging isn't exactly the greatest thing on the planet and worthy of a single star reduction instead of investing in the fancy plastic packaging that might have upped the cost some, you're getting a complete TV series in 8 discs for about $20 (depending on inflation/economic failure/passage of time, this may have changed), and I would assume cost cutting would have to exist somewhere to pass along the savings to us... To get these in plastic cases you would have to buy each season separately and would have likely had to spend about $10 more for it, so quit whining and just accept the deal as it came to you (you want a fully decked out version, there's a 12 disc $60 variant floating around, dig it up). They are bare-bones DVD's with a basic graphic menu interface and 12 episodes per disc... They play fine for USA region DVD players and are whatever cut the production company that made this run had of the show... I just wanted to binge this show from my childhood again and I am enjoying the quality for what was paid for... I wish they'd do a Blu ray remastering of it before I'm as old as Chester is in this show, but it's still as poignant and funny as it was when I first saw it and didn't understand the importance of the content... It has some aging issues but has a timeless enough feel for the topics that come up... In conclusion, the casing is wack but manageable given the cost paid, and that cost gets you a classic TV show worthy of every binge moment you encounter... and again, if you need a "quality edition", dig up the 12 disc $60 copy....

A riotous show ahead of its time
I remember catching some episodes of SOAP as a child, and remember when Benson spun off (though I don't recall much of that show; enough to recognize René Auberjonois when Star Trek Deep Space Nine started). I caught it again over a decade ago (on Netflix?) and decided I needed to own my own copy of this bizarre and hilarious show. My own children and I have gotten through about a third of it so far, and they've loved it. The minute they sense The Major is about to say something off the wall, they begin preemptively giggling. Some ideas are a bit dated, of course, but overall it's full of good messages and quirky characters who, in the end, love each other. Even though they often hate each other.

HILARIOUS!
This show is such a treasure and has really withstood the test of time. It pushed so many boundaries when it first aired (before I was born) and really makes fun of life in a hilarious way. At the very least, it will make your problems seem small in comparison to some of the absurd life situations they find themselves in. Truly great binge-watch worthy!

This show is from years ago and still it stands the test of time. One of the best and most fun series to watch and in this new age in the 2020 time frame people need all the laughter they can get. Seasons 1-3 were awesome and season 4 was not so good. The acting was professional, they were so good it boggles your mind. I never saw this program until recently when I had to move to town and it helped me stay sane believe me and made me laugh so hard. I wish our kids would have heard the advice the teacher played by Marlo Pennington gave her student, but of course kids just don't listen. However everyone was great but it is so sad that many of them are now gone. Well worth watching over and over if you value laughter. Well done.

1. ALL DISCs SUPPLIED WORK, NIL SCRATCHES, GIVEN THE FLIMSY PACKAGING. * IT HELPS TO HAVE AN "ALL REGIONS DVD PLAYER". 2. QUALITY ON A MODERN TV (GIVEN "SOAP" CAME OUT IN 1977) * VISUAL/SOUND EXCELLENT. 3. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE FLIMSY PACKAGING. THANK YOU.
