So far in 2015 Halsey has sold out her first headline tour in minutes, peaked at #1 on both Billboard's Emerging Artists and Billboard's Trending Artists charts and become a worldwide trending topic on Twitter multiple times. She also stole the show at SXSW as the 2015 fest's "Most Tweeted Artist." Fans can catch her this summer supporting Imagine Dragons on their Smoke + Mirrors arena tour and at festival appearances at Firefly Festival, Lollapalooza, Made In America, and ACL. Review: an incredible album on an incredible pressing. - this album's production has always been incredible, and it's an experience in any format. but good lord, this pressing is amazing. i slotted it into my hifi setup and just sat there listening to this album, that i've heard 100 times, like it was the very first time. if you have any sort of decent setup to properly appreciate this with, you should snag this record immediately. beautiful blue color, too. Review: Updated Review: Skip Problems were Because of my Player! - ***Update*** - I had the same problem listed below with four other records. All from different artists and three of them from different labels or companies. At that point I got suspicious and checked my player. It had a bunch of minor flaws that all added up to a huge problem for me. I got a new (read: better) player and the record is now amazing. I'm going to start off with this: I LOVE Halsey's music. The LP for Room 93 is gorgeous musical gold and I ABSOLUTELY recommend you get that one instead of this one. I got one one copy of this LP for Christmas. Straight out of the sleeve is skipped a little on side A. Annoying but I was willing to live with it. Then I tried side B. "Colors" skips half of the first verse. And about a third of the second verse. The next song skipped so badly that I didn't hear actual words until 1/2 way through the song. So I ordered a replacement. And the EXACT SAME THING happened. This LP is just badly produced which is a shame because Halsey's music sounds amazing on vinyl. Skip this one on vinyl and go for Hopeless Fountain Kingdom or Room 93.

A solid collection of songs. One of her best CD's in my opinion.

5/5
I'll admit to being super surprised when I pulled out a pink vinyl, but in a happy-ecstatic I didn't drop the $59.99 for the "for sure going to be pink" version and instead just got this, and happened upon getting the beautiful pink limited edition version. Makes it slightly more Purim-Miracle feeling. It's beautiful, doesn't skip on any of the tracks which with my old player is a miracle in and of itself never mind the pink. Halsey is one of my favorite singers and as I am slowly building up my vinyl collection, I kept thinking I already had this on vinyl. I didn't, just played the MP3 version enough times that I assumed I *must* have it. Halsey's lyrics are personal, but in a universal way that you feel like maybe she knows your story and wrote a song about it, or at the very least she's lived it. She's not self-indulgent, though, which is important. She has compassion for herself, and that plus empathy for others. Her voice is beautiful. It has a pop-punk from the early 00's feel to it, but her music is unique enough that I'm not feeling that exact vibe listening to her. It's a nice difference from the majority of pop albums today that either try to hard to deviate from the expected pop form that it becomes even more formulaic. She exerts her unique sound just by doing her thing. 5/5 would recommend; and good luck to others hoping for an LE one :)

Buy this album - get the Deluxe edition - it's incredible
When one of my friends told me to check this out, I thought it would be another pop album that was sort of trendy, which can be great, but that is not what this is. This is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. The imagery, the authentic feminism, the power, the poetry - I can't even begin to describe how beautiful this album is in words that would do it justice. There are truly no wasted lines, no empty space, just constant incredible writing and emotion. I haven't heard an LP, especially a debut, that made me feel like I could really feel where the singer was coming from and get inside his/her head since the Slim Shady LP in '90s.

Halsey releases her formal debut - the dystopian concept album "Badlands"
Electro-pop singer Ashley Nicolette Frangipane was born in Washington, New Jersey to a Black father and a White mother. The contrast in tastes of music (Her father: Hip hop, her mother; Alternative rock) would form the basis of who she is as an artist. Coming from humble beginnings, the singer watched as her parents struggled to make ends meet, as they were minors at the time of her birth. As a teenager, she became well versed in playing the violin as well as the acoustic guitar. However, she became a musician full time to make ends meet. She then chose the moniker Halsey, which was an alternate spelling of her first name and filmed doing cover songs on YouTube and posting original songs on Soundcloud. The latter gave her attention from record labels, to which she signed to the Virgin Records' alternative label Astralwerks Records - the same label responsible for The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Empire Of The Sun. In 2014, she released her EP "Room 93" and went on tour with the British band The Kooks as an opening act. Almost a year after she released her EP, she released her debut album "Badlands" which featured production from the likes of Tim Anderson, Lido, The Futuristics, Swedish producer Yung Gud and the trio Captain Cuts, among others. Musically, her album is rooted in the current sounds of edgy pop music with frequent nods to 80's indie. Thematically, the concept revolves around a fictional dystopian society called The Badlands - a desert wasteland where the survivors and natives were imprisoned. She begins the project with "Castle", where she enters a progressing society despite being chained. Halsey also tries to keep her head up admist the face of adversity and opposition on "Hold Me Down". On the first single "New Americana", she celebrates the diversity of the millennial generation, while working in a reference to Mtume's 1983 hit "Juicy Fruit". On the ballad "Drive", she speaks of a couple who have deep feelings for each other but are very careful not to make the first move and respond with silence. "Hurricane" is an autobiographical song that tells of her brief romance with an older man in her native New York during her teenage years. She finds an escape from her problems and desires to find happiness somewhere else on "Roman Holiday", while being done with an indifferent lover on "Ghost". She deals with someone on a path to self-destruction on "Colors" and continues the storyline on "Coming Down". Overall, "Badlands" is a good recording from Halsey. Although the production could have been a little better, in the end the songs are quite catchy and surprisingly upbeat for an indie pop act. Given the success of her debut, there may be a chance to hear more from her.

Amazing album, very nice shade of blue but the vinyl skips!
Badlands is my favorite album. The album is a 10/10 but the vinyl skips terribly! skipped in the same parts on a suitcase player I got a second one and it skipped on the same songs. Amazon was kind enough to refund me. Will be purchasing other versions of the record as it is my favorite album and id love to hear all the songs on vinyl.

Halsey – Badlands
