Does your handwriting reflect the image you want to project? The way you write mirrors your mood and character. It is one of the main ways in which you communicate with the world, and the clarity and technique of your writing will be interpreted by others in many ways. This practical and informative book will help you to improve your handwriting and find a mature, attractive and individual style. It is specifically written for adults and uses self-diagnosis to identify problems and provides exercises for improving your script. In a digital age where writing by hand remains a vital skill, this book covers everything from holding a pen and retraining bad habits, to the difficulties that left handers face and problems that may be caused by medical conditions. It shows how to write quickly and clearly when desired, and beautifully when desired. Experiment with the way you write and choose the style that suits you best, enabling you to write quickly and legibly when it really matters. Review: The right practice - I loved this book because it was exactly what I was looking for in a book about improving my handwriting. It takes quite a lot of practice to develop a nice handwriting and this book provided me with the exercises I needed. It starts out by pointing out a few common handwriting vices (a few of which I identified myself with) and then moves on to exercises about improvement. My favourite exercises are the ones about developing a rhythm when writing cursive. It is indeed a good feeling when you're able to lock in that rhythm. There are tips and exercises on how to make your handwriting more mature as well. The book ends with some tips on writing with a fountain pen with an italic nib, which gives your handwriting some nice line variations. The script suggested by the authors as a baseline is the Italic script so if you are looking for a change in handwriting that leans toward Spencerian script or English Roundhand, then this book is not for you. I believe this is a great book and I don't understand why it doesn't get as many referrals as Write Now, by Getty and Dubai. Review: Contains some interesting ideas. - Much of this book is devoted to cleaning up someone's handwriting defects and is less about making decent handwriting better. That said, the exercises and concepts add interesting new facets to the loopy Palmer Method cursive styling I was taught in the early 1960s. You are encouraged by the authors, once you've learned the styling possibilities, to then take time to make them your own. That's an important admonition. My first few letters to family elicited a mixed response with one commenting my font seemed at war with itself. It has smoothed out over the course of a dozen more letters. It's fun to play with. Because my technique was decent at the outset, I'm not certain if it really does deliver for those who badly require help.

Handwriting Should Be Unique
The book goes into the theory and rationale behind handwriting and how it should be functional both in speed and legibility. There's even an artistic point to it. It's not a straight exercise book, which is what I thought I wanted. I think this is much better for developing your own handwriting. I haven't thought of handwriting in that way and it greatly improved my penmanship just knowing that I don't have to stick to exact letter forms. The exercises help with being consistent and relaxed when writing. I found myself decompressing after work by doing a few exercises and writing down a few quotes just to practice. I used to hate practicing writing when I was a kid, but now I write so infrequently that I end up doing this crap to relax and have fun.

Helpful
I am left-handed and recently had surgery on left rotator cuff, so I purchased this book in advance to practice writing with my right hand. It has been very helpful, although I had hoped for larger practice pages. I didn't read the description carefully, so not disappointment by that. I was able to practice and have been able to communicate clearly in writing.

Well Worth Reading
OMG, once in a blue moon you come across a self-help book that exceeds all your expectations. This is one of those books. Thankfully, this is not just another "copy the example above" book. It is VERY thorough while still being readable and interesting. After reading this book you will be able to assess your handwriting with an informed eye, and you will know what needs fixing and how to make a start. NOTE: If you are looking to do more than just revamp your current handwriting, get Michael Sull's book, The Art of Cursive Penmanship. It is an old-school, take-no-shortcuts course in penmanship.

Great Little Book
I learned cursive writing years ago in a Catholic School from nuns who would slap your hand with a ruler if you did it wrong! For decades after that, even though I loved to write, my hand would cramp up when I wrote too long, and a full page would deteriorate from legible to scribble. Don't even talk to me about all the handwriting analyzers who see all kinds of things about you from your scribble! I can type extremely well but really wanted to put pen to paper again and enjoy it. Voilà ! Up popped this book. At $10.95, Free Shipping and Handling, I figured I can't go too far wrong even if it wasn't so good. Well, it is! It's easy to read and go through and so common sense and practical. I read through the whole book first - it's an easy read - before I started doing the exercises. I did them all, and it's amazing how such simple stuff can be effective to such a satisfying degree. I remember being taught NOT to break your writing in the middle of a word. Well, I learned from this book (to my relief) it's a good idea to lift your pen every four or five letters. I am totally convinced that cursive should be taught to children in elementary school (not by slapping their hands with a ruler!) because it teaches them the finer movement of hand and fingers as well as discipline. If you are an adult who needs that kind of training, I heartily recommend this book. It's an easy but efficient read.

Would have been a better workbook.
The book size is almost too small to reasonably work with. It feels less like an interactive book and more like something you would read casually. While the book contains a lot of interesting content, I found the layout and organization of the book to be less than ideal. There were also no practice sheets that could be copied and reused. I think this book could have been better as a workbook.

Easy to read, easy to follow
It goes from basics to advance in a nice easy slope. I like how it offers alternative styles along the ways. It also offers many sections meant to improve one's handwriting, rather than retooling it outright. This has made it infinitely more useful to me. As an adult i can't afford the time to start from scratch, it is great that i can improve on what i already have through this book.

Handwriting - Yes You Can!
I was taught to write in school and always have done so [I didn't 'unlearn' it like my daughter did through lack of use]. Interesting and a valuable resource.

effective exercises
It is easy to analysize your handwriting and to make the very effective exercises. You will already see the results after very few exercises but you have to be careful not to become too critical with yourself.

Excellent training guide
Sophisticated analysis of your specific handwriting problem, followed by specific advice and exercises to improve. My own handwriting was awful and for my laboratory work I needed to improve it, fast. I trained with this book for about two weeks, almost every day, and I've seen a drastic improvement already!
