He loves the old Disney cartoon about Paul Bunyan - which sort of inspired me to look for something like this to give him
I got this axe for my son who will be turning 4 soon. He's big for his age, and has lots of experience "shopping" wood already. He loves the old Disney cartoon about Paul Bunyan - which sort of inspired me to look for something like this to give him. It's probably going to be a little long for him, but I think he'll manage alright. He can chop (notice I don't say split) for hours on end with our Fiskars X11 Splitting Axe (which is actually a hatchet) - the head on it weighs 1.85 pounds and the overall weight is 2.43 pounds. That's according to the internet - I've never weighed the thing. It's kind of heavy for a kid his size, but he is determined and does fine with it. Knowing he could handle that, I wanted to find something lighter so he'd be able to cut down little trees and things too. Swinging sideways is a lot harder when the axe is too heavy for you. He weighs about 40 pounds, so a 2.5 pound axe is 1/16 of his bodyweight - that would be like me swinging an 8 pound axe. Ok for splitting, almost impossible for felling. Anyways - we have one of those super common fiberglass handled 1.25 pound hatchets too, and he swings that thing no problem. Long story short, this seemed like about the right weight, and the right length. I was stoked that such a thing exists - he's going to be so proud of his "double bladed axe" just like Paul Bunyan. I don't know what kind of quality this thing is really - if it holds up, great! It's actually a pretty handy size and weight for a man to use one handed. Would be handy on a trail or camping, something like that. I'm not going to be giving it a real thorough inspection until after his birthday - it's in a secret hiding place for now. I did pull it out and look at it when it arrived - seems fine. Nothing glaringly awful about it. Whether it's worth ~$60 - I can't say really. For me it was, because the look on his face will be priceless.

Perfect All around Doublebit Axe that’s not overly large
I’ve owned Gransfors axes and Helco-Werk from Germany and both companies are perfect, but I finally found the best match that I was looking for with this Michigan Doublebit Axe. It’s better for limbing small and medium size trees and branches and but not felling big trees. However, it can do the job if it has to. Also, because of it’s size and weight it’s an outstanding fighting axe if needed. It’s hard to find a double bit axe of these capabilities of iron and wood of days of old. The leather head-sheath is thick and perfectly made to hang on my belt.

A good buy
I purchased & fell in love with the Condor Hudson Bay knife. Looked at their other stuff & came across this axe. Living in northern Michigan and not want to chop wood with my favorite new knife led me to buying this axe. I like things that ate brand new & high quality yet look really old. I think I got there with this axe. Good carbon steel and a tough, good looking hickory handle. And a FANTASTIC leather sheath. What I didn't like, heart wood on the handle as well as diagonal grain. The heart wood was at the top, where the handle flared just before going into the axe head. Not really structural, so I decided to make an over strike collar, which I tried to dye to match the sheath. Also didn't care for the edge (either edge really) which took some work to get sharp. I used some linseed oil on the handle, then rubbed in beeswax. Very happy with the final result. Really sharp axe, looks old yet is brand new and highly functional. I would recommend due to the quality materials & low price as long as you don't mind working on the edges a bit.

Great little axe.
Axe is well balanced, sharp, and seems rugged so far. The handle is a little longer (or the head is a little smaller) than the picture portrays, but not by a lot. Very pleased so far.

Bad seller.
It had a loose head when arrived and they wouldn't take return. If it wasn't damaged it would have been a good product. Condor makes quality tools.

Certainly OK if you can get a really good price.
I've never had a double bit axe before. I'm not a woodsman so I have no real use for one. Honestly, I was looking to get one and maybe modify it a little and make it a battle axe. Found this one under Amazon Warehouse with condition as Used: Very good. When I received it I immediately noticed that the sharper edge had some really bad rollback and some chipping. I guess Amazon's definition of "Very Good" is not close to what I think is "Very good". But I was glad to get a double-headed axe for 30 bucks and with pretty good overall condition. This one, though, has another issue. The two heads aren't exactly the same shape. One head's cutting face is flatter than the other one. Perhaps that's way it's supposed to be because one side is for light splitting but the other side is for chopping? Anyway, on that, one side feels sharper than the other one. The sharp side (the one with the middle having bad rollback+chips) is meant for chopping and the not so sharp side is meant for splitting...I guess. The difference in sharpness isn't that big. Neither cutting face is razor sharp, like some hatchets from another company. But having chopped wood with kukri before, I got a feeling this one will do nicely. The edges are grinded nicely, after all. I'm in the process of shaping it so that it's corners would look more flared out. But for 30 bucks and somewhat used and abused, it's really not bad. I suspect a new one would be a good value for under $50 (list is $80). And it's light weight so would do alright strapped to a backpack or waist. It's got a really nice leather sheath with a loop to attach to your belt or backpack.

Great axe. Very much underrated...
This product is totally underrated. It is not a full size two bit axe, both bits are the same size unlike some two bit axes where one edge is 1/4 inch smaller than the other and they have a different plane. These axes are symmetrical. That being said given the size of the head and from my own at this time limited usage they are an excellent middle of the road axe, you won't be cutting down redwoods, however for any medium sized trees, any de-limbing from ground level or as an all round campsite axe it is perfect. The handle is hickory and the grain is true, the head is forged and looks fantastic. It will require some sharpening and possibly narrowing of the bezel dependent on its primary use, however it feels great in hand and has the look of quality usually found on axes of old, or of swedish design. The sheath covers the whole axe head and the belt loop swivels front to back. Great value, thank you Condor! I'll post pictures soon.

Disappointed
Disappointed broke on the first chop never buying condor again. Handle is of good quality wood same for the steel of the axe head but with only a hole slightly bigger than my thumb to fit the handle its equal to a hammer on a chopstick
