Conair HLM5CS Compact Hot Lather Cap Heating System Worldwide Dual Voltage

My dear husband loves hot foam for shaving. He used to warm the foam by soaking the can in hot water in the sink while he showered. I purchased a less expensive canister warmer but it required very specific size cans which are not always available. It finally stopped wirking. This unit locks onto the top of the foam canister regardless of size, even a travel size can. The maker supplies a base for the travel size so the unit is balanced. This was expensive but my husbanded said the foam is very hot the entire time the foam is emmited.

This is similar to other Conair hot lather machines i've owned, just without the shell. However, it does not work on cans that are only about 1/4 full. For that, i have been using a desktop (coffee?) mug warmer (designed to keep (coffee? hot chocolate?) hot. it works great - I turn it off before I obtain my hot lather, so I don't overheat the can.

I got this as a gift to replace my old hot lather machine. The new ones just don't heat up like the old ones did but this seemed to be better than most. It is also compact enough that I can load it in my shaving kit and carry it on the road. It will use the small travel cans and has an adapter base for them. I plug it in about 30 minutes before using to get the lather warm enough. I noticed after the last trip that it does warm up the travel cans better than the full size ones. Update: 5/31/2016 I've now had this item 3 months. It takes longer to warm up than it did when I posted my original review. The best it now seems to do on a regular can (Barbasol) is luke warm. It still does a little better on the small travel size can. For the price, it is a disappointment after a short while

Useless. Requires a special can and even then failed to work. What a waste of my time and energy pstt

Great product. It works like it should. The Hot Lather Cap warms to the perfect temp and lather comes out at a great consistancy. Its a good idea to shake your can every time you use it but the cap is easly removed and easy to put back on. Wish it was battery operated though, would be nice not to have an extra cord on the counter.

Conair Compact Hot Lather Cap Machine for Shaving Cream You probably can't beat this product for what it cost. Everything else is up in the hundred $ range. Seems to work as claimed. I use Gillette Foamy cream as suggested. (no gel, no menthol). To call it "hot" may be an overstatement. It is comfortably warm and smells pretty good. If the shave is any closer I think it is microscopically so. It is fun for the fastidious, much like eating soup out of a fancy bowl. I had none of the troubleshooting problems mentioned in the instruction pamphlet. It came quickly packaged with the unrelated DVD I also bought from Amazon to get the free shipping which was great. I've looked for this in stores but I live in Maryland, where it is hard to spend your money. You can't even find Gillette double edge razor blades here. (I think Amazon has those too.) I use a Parker safety razor, also from Amazon. You CAN find shaving cream in Maryland stores. Now if I could just get my hands on some English Leather or 007 after shave without having to buy a Wayback Machine from Amazon.

Certainly not as good as their original 2010 version. Using same shave cream I’ve used for 20+ years, this newest model produces a watered down/steamed foam. I can tell it won’t last long; be surprised if I get one year out of it.

My husband has been wanting a hot shave, and this is just what he wanted. It was a bit pricey, but well worth it!
