Donco Kids Study & Sleep Twin Cappuccino Low Loft Bed

I bought 2 of these low loft beds for my boys ages 12 and 9!!! Originally I was canvassing IKEA, but prices and availability to be delivered from the Atlanta location halted that purchase several times. So, after nearly 3 months of that non-sense I gave up and ended up finding these instead. SCORE!!!! I was immediately sold. I was interested in buying loft beds with desks for my 2 boys in their shared room in our new home. Several things sold me with this purchase.....it was a loft, slide out desk, dresser drawers, and a bookshelf!!! We have hardwood floors and ceiling fans, so the height was instantly hazard free for those issues as far as falling off or reaching up! Boys will be boys! As I already stated, a desk was my main concern, but with this bed it was like getting 2 free gifts....a bookshelf and 3 dresser drawers too!!! The boxes are quite large and extremely heavy. The shipment of all boxes came 2 different days back to back, but earlier than expected. The boxes were sealed securely and undamaged. The bed frame wood is solid, sturdy and has a nice finish to it. The dresser drawers and bookshelf are easily removable and interchangeable. In the picture I posted the dresser drawers are pushed back to show that they're not attached to the frame. The desk is attached and slides in and out with no friction. The desk is actually bigger than pictured in the advertisements, which was another plus. The drawers are deep and holds quite a bit of clothing. I was pleasantly pleased and extremely satisfied with this purchase all the way around. The mattress size is a standard twin, which of course is not included. I opted to buy Signature Sleep foam mattresses that were recommended for these beds. Another great purchase....might I add!! I also added the protection plan and expert assembly with my purchase too!! I am so happy I went that route instead of trying to man handle those beds myself, because the boxes alone are super heavy. It was pretty time consuming as well....4 - 5 hours for 2 people to complete both beds!!! They were awesome and I would hire them again and again and again to assemble future purchases. Oh...let me add when you order the beds they say they only offer 1 assembly per customer, but I emailed the techs and actually you can have more than 1 done for an additional charge which is the same assembly fee per bed. Just be sure to give them a heads up in advance during the appointment scheduling. I chose to completely clear out the bedroom which I also advise. They or you will need all the room you can to lay things out for a less constricted workspace. All in all.....I very highly recommend these beds and would give it 10 stars!!!

Love this bed design, makes my daughters tiny bedroom much more workable and have the appearance of having more space than it truly does. The dark color looks exactly like the picture! The bed even came early when it was shipped!! And while I love the bed…there are a few things I was disappointed about, such as the sturdiness… It’s easier to damage/break than I was expecting of a wooden bed frame. The guard rail is super thin and the dark brown color wood vaneer can be scraped off very easily…(was so mad seeing that my 8yr old was able to do so) the desk under the bed was a little tricky as we weren’t given a set of screws and had to run to Home Depot to get the missing screws. The stop pegs that sit in the frame to keep the desk from going tooooo far back into the frame are simple soft wood pegs that break really easily. The only reason we had as easy of a time getting it put together was because my in-law came by to help and he used to work at a furniture store as an merchandiser (he put the furniture together in-store) yet it still took three adults to get it assembled. Even once done putting it together and all set up, I wouldn’t recommend letting more than two kids up on the bed at a time and maybe I’m just a worry wart, but all the wooden planks are thin! Not even half the dimensions of a 2x4…even thought we screwed them all in and down, the bed frame shakes a LOT when the kid climbs into bed at night!!!! All in all, you get what you paid for, a cheap bed off Amazon instead of going to a furniture store…

This is a great bed frame for the price. The material feels quite sturdy. Obviously, the loft design with bookshelf, dresser, and pull-out desk means you get to maximize your space in a small room. There's additional space underneath the bed that kids can use as a "secret base," I've attached a little clip-on desk lamp there. I purposely chose a loft bed that was not very tall, which makes it much easier for me to carry my son and place him in the bed, if we return home late and he has fallen asleep in the car. Imagine having to climb up one of these ladders while carrying a kid! Assembly was time consuming, but straightforward. The instructions were mostly pictures that were simple to understand. My only complaint about the assembly is that most of the included Philips screws do not have accompanying pre-drilled holes, and since you're told not to use power tools in the instructions, you're left with needing to use a lot of manual labor to try and screw them in, some in places where you'd be blocked by adjacent boards that make it difficult to apply strength. Another issue I encountered (which the seller quickly resolved after contacting them) was that, one of the drawer board pieces had a slotted groove that was not cut properly--it was not level, which meant the drawer bottom could not be installed properly--when I tried to force the drawer bottom in and assemble the rest, the drawer could not be fully pushed in to the dresser. The seller sent me a replacement board that was cut properly, now everything works. The lack of pre-drilled holes for screws, and needing to get replacement parts (despite the fact that the seller sent the replacement quickly), comprise the reason why I rated this item 4 instead of 5 stars. It's still a great product, but would have been perfect (for the price) if I didn't have to deal with those issues. My son loves it, by the way. Pros: Decent, sturdy material; space-saving features; straightforward assembly; not too tall; seller responds quickly Cons: Lacks some pre-drilled holes; assembly takes time (understandably)

We've had this loft now for 3 months and love it. Our 3 year old wanted to sleep in it starting day 1. With a 7" mattress (no pillow top) there is no worry of him falling out, we put a pillow to block ladder access at night. Ladder would be better if it used 2x4's or something a little sturdier. We had one piece that had a manufactures defect (one side of the ladder), the pre-drilled holes were not deep enough and when we put the bolt in the wood buckled and cracked. I called the manufacture within 2 weeks and they sent me a new slat within 4 days at no charge. The did not ask me to send the old slat back or provide any documentation. It was ridiculously easy to have the piece replaced. The space under the loft is a really great fort/reading nook/play space. We put a kids playmat and a pillow down there and our kid loves it. My husband and kid have slept in the bed together (190-200 lbs) and it has held the weight just fine. It's made of real wood, not partical board, and held together with dowels (like IKEA furniture) reinforced with bolts. We had a 4.4 earthquake last week and the bed jolted but did not move. No damage to the bed. NOTE: We have not assembled the dresser or desk.

This bed is perfect for my 5 year old daughter. I even slept in it a few times with her. ONLY problem I have had so far is that the drawers seem to get stuck. Not sure if it is because of assembly error or defect. Had it a week and my daughter loves it. Quality material and very well worth the price. Opening the boxes was a blessing and a curse. It was very well packaged, but a beast to open. Thankfully no parts were damaged. SUGGESTIONS: Follow the directions. Yes, they are limited pictures, but once you match the pieces it is fairly easy to assemble. I was able to have all pieces completely assembled in 3 days (due to interruptions) by myself. There are a TON of pieces so take your time. The dresser was the most difficult to assemble (maybe that is why my drawers are off!!). Do not use a power tool!! It clearly tells you no damage will be covered if a power tool is used. Do not use a hammer. Although it is suggested, I didn't want to risk damaging the wood. The only time I used a hammer was to nail the cover on the back of the dresser. Overall, it is a good sturdy bed that I highly recommend!

I researched numerous loft beds for my son who is six, and weighs 50lbs max! I decided on this bed due to all the storage and height. We first assembled the bed, it went together easily, and appeared to be very sturdy and nice quality.... this is where it all went downhill! My son was excited once the bed was together, he anxiously climb up and we heard a crack, followed by a loud snap. One of the wooden support beams for the mattress had broken in half! He was not rough, simply climbed on and laid down. I attempted to contact the seller with no reply. My husband was crafty, and was able to fix the slat so that it could be used safely. We then continued assembling of the bookshelf; no issues here. Then came the desk, oh the desk, first the outside of the package was not damaged in anyway... first leg I pulled out looked like a dog chewed on it! Numerous pieces were scratched and rough almost like they hadn’t been sanded before being finished. Also... NO INSTRUCTIONS for the desk; I am fairly sure someone had received this before us and returned it. I do not recommend this bed, if the seller should contact me and correct the issues, I will update my rating. UPDATE: After writing a bad review, and waiting a few days after contacting customer support, they did correct our issues. We were sent a replacement support; much stronger and thicker than the one we first received. As well as 2 new pieces for the desk; still beaten up some, but you can’t see it when installed. Overall, the bed looks nice and does what I wanted; provide more space with storage. I still feel you could get better quality for the price. I have updated my 1 star review to a 3.

This is well-built, with good instructions. Only one part (the rail that supports the desk as it slides in/out) was pre-drilled incorrectly... I had to enlarge those holes so the screw could reach the pre-drilled holes in the bed itself. Everything else worked perfectly the first time. Just note that this is mostly laminated particle-board, not solid wood. Make sure the kiddos don't scratch through the laminate, especially at the edges. The main thing that stands out from other furniture I bought online is that this only needed 7-10 days in the garage to finish outgassing... a cabinet I bought a few months ago took 6 weeks for the odor to dissipate. I got the loft bed, plus desk, plus 3-drawer chest, plus bookshelf. The chest and bookshelf are freestanding, which is good and bad. Bad in that they're not securely fastened to the loft, good in that you can choose to make a play-space under the bed by moving one of them to another part of the room. We moved the bookshelf so the entry point is at the foot of the bed. I added an RGBW LED strip and motion sensor to turn on when he goes in. He's super happy with his big-boy bed, having his own desk, and the play space.

I am so furious with this purchase. We took our time to read reviews and weight out all the pro and cons with all our options. This was one of the better choices from the looks (reviews plus cost). Once assembled and ready to good it looked great and my son (9) loved it. About 1 month in the ladder left loose so we tightened it no problem. Another two months we noticed the WHOLE bed wobbling as he was climbing in bed. So again My husband tightened all the screws. Another two months, the ladder was loose again this time the screw popped out completely stripping the wood. We tried tightening the other screws that were left which help a bit but before we had the bed a full year the entire ladder BROKE. SNAPPED right in half! Along with it the guard rail! STURDY? YEAH RIGHT! never again. Needless to say we are now on the hunt for a new bed less then a full year from our last purchase. so very disappointing. Please don't waste your time or money. I think we will purchase in-store next time.
