Am I correct in my thinking that you connect the sub to your audio interface, and then your studio monitors will connect from the sub?

Yes but not necessarily, with the right connection wires it can be run from any type of input. I run a 1/8" to two 1/4" (L & R) into the sub and two female XLRs to 1/4" cables into my monitors. Sounds amazing.

Can i hook up both speakers to a single mini-plug on my pc? if so, what are the specifications of the wire(s) i need to purchase separately.

Yes you can. Aside from a mixer or device in the middle, you have two choices; a standard 3.5mm to RCA cable, or 3.5mm to 'balanced' L/R XLR pro-audio connectors. Trust me, you want the balanced. With the standard RCA cable these speakers suffer from impossible LOUD ground loop problems - hiss, hummming... The XLR cables quieted mine right down as other's have reported - I have them connected to the headphone-out my PC's USB SoundBlaster 3 sound adapter. I bought my cable on Amazon, 3.5mm male to stereo XLR male.

Does it come w/ the 2 xlr or trs cables it needs??

No cables included with my unit. I recommend Mogami.

If I use the TRS input, will I be able to use the XLR output?

Yes, you can use the balanced Tip-Ring-Sleeve 1/4" input (that might come from your preamp) with the balanced XLR (microphone-type) output to your satellite speakers. Shouldn't be any issues unless one of your cables have a pin wired in conflict. This is exactly how I have it configured using a Duet 2 and LSR-308s.
