Heavy duty machine!! I watched videos from users and video reviews from repair shops. The Janome brand is one of the best built machines because they still use metal parts which keep the machine from flexing. They also use better feed dogs which allows it to sew thick fabric and straight to very thin without a hitch. It is impossible to knot up the thread when you see past the end of the fabric. It is perfect for beginners due to the flip up panel that shows what settings and what pressure feet to use for each stitch and having only the basic and most used stitches keeps confusion and intimidation to a minimum. Review: Best sewing machine out there - Best sewing machine out there! My grandmother got this for me as a graduation present, and it's wonderful! Heavy duty, can sew through many layers of denim. Sometimes the thread gets tangled underneath the fabric, but I'm pretty sure that happens with every machine (and probably has more to do with my still amateur knowledge of sewing than the machine itself). Included feet are great--rolled hem, buttonhole, overstitching. What you need and not what you don't. The carrying case is a nice bonus. It's expensive, but the internal parts are all metal, and I imagine it will last me for many years!

Simple mechanical machine
This is a standard type sewing machine and not digital. Easy to work and not complicated. I have a 50+ year old singer and this one does a few more things than that one. Great for most sewing projects.

Best thing since.. the treadle machine!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this machine! I own a Janome 6500P sewing machine and I love it. However, I am a fiber artist and my art consists of stitching several layers of thread on canvas duck. I've been using the 6500 to do this for about 10 years and the needle arm support unit finally gave up. The 6500 is not really meant to be banging away through so many layers. So I purchased the HD3000 because it said it is a mechanical machine and can stitch through several layers of leather. I've been stitching several pieces for the past couple of days and this baby handles it like sewing through butter. No grunts or groans or pounding so hard it gives me a headache. This is like a walk in the park and I only wish I'd purchased it years ago!

Thank goodness I bought an extended SquareTrade warranty!!
I purchased this machine in 2017 but barely used it until recently (October 2019). I got about 25 hrs of (gentle) use out of it before it broke do, in the midst of a project. So much for being "heavy duty"!! I immediately checked out the Janome warranty but of courseI it had already expired. I called locally to get estimates on the repair and discovered the minimum repair charge would be about $200, half the original purchase price of the machine!!! I had (thankfully) had the foresight to spend the extra $30 at the time of purchase to get a SquareTrade extended warranty. I immediately got online and filed a claim on the SquareTrade website. Within just a few hours, I received an emailed approval for the repair! Now that's service! Next, I needed a recommendation for a qualified local repair shop, so I chatted online with Jacob (also on the SquareTrade website) and within minutes got contact info for a nearby shop. We'll see how SquareTrade does with compensating me for the repair cost but so far, so good! Six weeks later: I finally got the machine back from the local repair shop, total cost $196.56. Yikes! I immediately scanned the receipt and uploaded it to the SquareTrade website. In less than two hours, I received an email stating I'd be receiving a check for the TOTAL amount in the mail in five business days. Within a week, I had it in my hands! I am extremely impressed with SquareTrade! The sewing machine, not so much. Maybe it'll do a better job going forward. If so, I'll upgrade my rating.

DO NOT BUY
I bought this after seeing all the great reviews and it has been horrible! I haven't even used it on four projects and it broke. The thread jams almost every time I use it, forcing me to delve into the machine to fix the problem. My projects have taken three times as long to complete, I've wasted probably around $20 worth of thread, and now it won't even catch the thread and sew, it stays in the same place and refuses to work. DO NOT PURCHASE. Waste of $500 bucks.

This thing is a BEAST...ILOVE IT!!!
I was thrilled that my machine arrived on time. Quickly removed from packing and dropped in my Sewing Table and off we went. This is my #9 sewing machine. I am no stranger to sewing! U have have many brands and I sew everything from garments to quilting to upholstery. Having so many machines, I have a large amount of feet. A lot of them fit the Janome. I just snapped on a 1/4" foot from my Brother! YAY The first thing I did was cut off a leg from a pair of jeans. If I want this machine to be my work horse it has to sew through some pretty heavy stuff. I doubled up the heavy seams of a man's jeans and BAM...IT SEWED RIGHT THROUGH IT! I rolled the material like I was going to hem it and again, it didn't let me down! It also handled a thin cotton material with gentle care. I am not sorry I bought this machine. I have a brother I love the beautiful tote that came with it and also the hard case. All the extras was a plus. If you are thinking about it, do not hesitate. You will not be sorry!!!

powerful and functional
This is a great sewing machine. It has nice stitch options, and is all mechanical. My son uses it, and can sew heavy duty items with it, but can also do a few decorative stitches. He has been really happy with it.
