Good for DIY Filters for Vacuums | Back and Front Adhesion Issue
Excellent for cutting to size filters to decrease/eliminate fine dust being blown into the air near the vacuum. This is actually an issue with most vacuums; not good for breathing or maintaining a good indoor air quality. Specially for stick vacuums (in my case featherlight model by Bissell) that offer the advantage of reusable affordable filters, compact size and excellent functionality, what they come with do not filter everything or better said do not offer sealed vacuuming. The exhaust air ejects some of the fine particles out with it. By layering a cut to size filter from this sheet behind the existing filter, you literally eliminate most if not all if it. In this way, I was happy to keep my existing vacuums without having to invest in bigger, bulkier, expensive units that require frequent filter change to offer sealed vacuuming. I confirmed this using an air quality detector that particles do not get into the air from the exhaust air vs. without. The only complaint is that the sheet has a back and front side. When cutting, they can come apart at least partially. It still holds together fine.

A HEPA filter pre-filter!
One reviewer is concerned that theirs came in a package marked N95 and not MERV 16. Mine says MERV 16 and nowhere is N95 mentioned but I looked up the micron ratings for both. MERV 16 has a micron rating of 0.30-1.0 greater than or equal to 95% & N95 respirators have filtration efficiencies for particle size (0.1 to 0.3 micron), of at least 95% efficient at that size. If he actually did get N95 material it's a slight upgrade to MERV 16! Either way I'm happy with my purchase. I'm building a portable positive pressure clean room using a 10x7x7 greenhouse ($75 on Amazon!) sealed to a 12x8 heavy duty tarp and for the positive pressure I'm using 2 HEPA air cleaners with medical grade filters on the outside and rigged to a 1000 CFM air blower on the inside with 4" aluminum duct work. I replaced the broken fan in 1 of them with a 325 CFM inline fan. Both of the HEPA units have modified output directly into a 4" Y connector and their combined output from outside the tent goes through a 4" semi rigid aluminum dryer vent hose to a T connector hooked to both intakes on the sides of the blower. So the combined purified air is basically sucked in through the ductwork and through the blower into the lab inflating it and giving positive pressure meaning when I unzip the door a blast of pure air comes out and it reinflates after I zip it shut. This is lab #4 for me. Inside the big tent I'll have a 6'x6'x6' small one with a fat Laminar flow HEPA filter to do my tissue culture work in. The point is I need the purest of air and I think using this MERV 16 fabric as a pre-filter for my external HEPA filters is going make a world of difference for the lifespan of the system. The truth is I worked in a clean room before and the technician explained that the more junk that collects on the outside of the HEPA filters is the better they filter because the dirt acts like a pre filter and that's why professional cleanrooms never change their filters. The 1000 CFM blower is to negate the loss of output usually caused by the filters in the home HEPA units. Those I won't even need to turn on but probably will for that little extra boost. These MERV 16 filters combined with the HEPA's and a few negative ionizing units I'm splicing into the ductwork means I don't have to worry about contaminants destroying $1000's worth of liquid mushroom cultures anymore. In the past people would step into my lab and not want to leave. Suddenly their allergies were gone. So this long winded customer is satisfied with the price, potential and quality of this product.

May not be suitable for natural ventilation
This filter may not suitable for natural ventilation. It may be suitable for mechanical air flow and ventilation. This filter blocks most of air flow. Therefor, you should be careful when using it for natural ventilation. So, I think consumer users should not use this filter for natural air flow.

Excellent
I'm using this fabric with the Adrenaline face mask from Outdoor Research (another excellent product, BTW). Duplicated the size and shape of the Adrenaline filter and it slips into place perfectly. However, unlike the stock Adrenaline filter, this fabric holds its shape when the mask is lowered for drink, food, facial ID, etc. Sewn so the fuzzy side is towards the face, it absorbs the exhaled moisture nicely. (I suspect if it were placed the other way, moisture would accumulate on the smooth side and drip down into the chin area of the mask.) A good choice with the Adrenaline mask since the MERV rating of this fabric being high, a tightly-fitting mask is almost mandatory else air will pass at the periphery of a poorly-fitting one. We got fifteen filters cut from one roll (and could have gotten more if we had been more careful). When these run out, will definitely get more fabric.

Is it for real? I want to believe...
I got this for mask filters, and it does that well. But as the new variant takes over and stakes are higher, I came back to look for reassurance that this is truly a MERV 16 filter, i.e., that I can literally trust my health to it on an upcoming trip. I want to believe this is exactly as advertised, but I find little help here. The manufacturer says a customer(?!?) undertook a study and found that it matched the specs. There's an "image" of this, but I have not yet found it. There is likewise no explanation for why the package, when you receive it, is emblazoned "n95" rather than MERV 16. That makes me wary -- is it making a claim? Companies can readily prove certification. The answers here don't do that -- instead they "clarify differences" between ratings (that's not the question). I understand that small companies can't always afford to have testing done, because they are small companies just starting out. But if that's the case here, I wish the company would just say what's what and explain things in an easily verifiable way. Instead, there are a lot of unverifiable claims in question responses and unaddressed assertions about MERV 16 vs. MERV 14. There is an ASTM number, too, but searching for that turns up very, very little. There is also a Nelson Labs study number. I looked it up. It was a sponsored study, and it studied bacteria and artificial particles, and claiming really exceptional results with particles the size of viruses. Promising. On the other hand, the study does not, near as I can tell, mention Biodefensor as the maker of the product. We're all drowning in unfamiliar knowledge, navigating as best we can in difficult times. Stakes are high. I want to believe this is a small company doing great work and providing trustworthy material I can trust health and life to. I'd be all in favor and sing their praises. But without easier verification and straight answers, I'm not ready to hang my health on the performance of an unknown. Can you help us out here, Biodefensor? You'd have and deserve a lot of fans if you cleared things up. I think you have a great product -- I just don't really know that you do.

It does what Merv 16 is supposed to do.
I'm writing this for informational purposes. The quality of the material is hi. However the practicality of the material is very low for the average household as many people go looking for this material to make personal filters for their air vents as many apartment complexes have shared air and many people smoke cigarettes, marijuana and other things which none of us want to breathe . However, the level 16 rating means that it restricts air flow more than other filters. However the filter quality is very very high. There is in fact a nano layer which I have found via dissection, and then a more coarse layer that is designed for only stopping larger particles. This is a two layer sheet that is bound together via interweaving. It's actually a very good product. However most people here believe that it's supposed to be breathable as a lower level eight or five.

Not as advertised for a face mask filter
Product us NOT pliable if youre using as a face mask. Product is the texture of sheet of heavy card stock with a thi. Felt covering. Absolutely CANNOT be used as a face mask filter. Product does NOT bend or contour a face. Also, I see the price increased the cost by $10 since bought it 1 week ago. False advertising while so many of us are trying to stay safe and protect ourselves.

The pelican was the right choice, much usefulness but not too much of the kitchen sink!

Arrived fast and is exactly as advertised
It arrived a week ahead of the shipping estimate and is clearly a high quality product. It's a little hard to get the rounded curve out of it, since it was rolled up. Otherwise it's exactly as advertised.

Good filter
Didn't know there was two layers to the material. But the filter works great.
