Wheeler Engineering Scope Mounting Kit with Fat Wrench, Reticle Leveling System, Bore Sighter, and Storage Case, for Scope Intallation and Alignment

This kit is excellent, used it to mount a couple of scopes off the bat and was surprised at how much material had to be removed from rings for a proper mount, absolutely essential on large caliber guns - the torque driver system is great, no more damaged screws, this is the main reason I bought the kit, if you look at buying the torque driver separately the value of this kit is immediately obvious, the kit has a torque chart that comes with it but it only includes related torque data for 3 screw sizes, it should have a little more data, but this is the 3 primary data sets related to screws you will commonly encounter when mounting scopes, just wish it had the extra data for more versatility, but that is where a net search yields data quickly and easily - the torque driver works perfectly with the wheeler 89 p driver set, this is a crucial piece of gear if you are turning a wrench on guns, well worth the price paid for the kit! - mine had a smooth bar, not grooved as previous reviews had mentioned, bar functioned flawlessly and leaves a great finished product. - mine came with a plastic case (kind of a downer since I ordered a plastic case separately after reading some reviews that said it didn't come with it, so in the end I got 2 cases -(eh, not a big deal, case sells separately for 6-10 bones) - Kit works great, but I wish the kit came with a stud for a power drill attachment - the end cap of the lapper bar is threaded - would be easy to rough the rings, then follow up hand lapping if you could rough it out with power drill, would save you a lot of time - but hey can't hold it against the kit since it is not advertised with one, just think it would be a little extra value to an already great kit. - wish list aside I still give the kit a 5/5, performs exactly as advertised, excellent fit finish and function, as well as value - wheeler has obviously followed feedback related to its product and made several upgrades and revamps to fine tune this kit to an optimal state.

I bought this tool years ago and have no regrets. My scopes are plum to the barrel which make long distance shooting more reliable with regard to elevation. Remember if your scope is not level, your windage will change left or right based on distance. Further if you level your scope, you know torquing the screws makes it twist. If you hone the rings, the twist is no an issue to deal with. The torque driver is good in that all the acres are adjusted to the same standard. All this makes for better shooting. Good value for the money, it’s built to last! Finally, don’t think because you spent $200+ on rings they are perfectly aligned. When they are mounted to the rail that’s mounted to the gun, all the tolerances stack up. They are not aligned, hone them and they will be perfect! Good luck and good shooting. The Dogman

With todays rifle mounts its important to have proper alignment of you scope rings. This kit covers that. It will show you if your rings are properly aligned on your rails using the "heavy" solid steal guides. This is a visual testing device meaning its your eyes that determine if the two points align ( point at each other ) ALSO never mix your scope rings or turn them around while doing this test. Mark them with a marker when taking them off and re- assembling the rings to measure their true-ness ( my word ). If your rings don't line up move them to another slot in your rail ( if possible ) and retest. Mine after testing were not perfectly true so I had to lap them using the enclosed lapping bar and abrasive compound. There is even an attachment for a drill should you choose to do so. I used the handle ( enclosed ) and did id manually ( slow and easy ). After 5 min.s I took the rings apart ( remember to not mix them ) and reassembled and they were dead on. Note: Once you lap you rings you will most likely remove the coated finish on the inside of your rings. MAKE SURE to REMOVE the ABRASIVE compound thoroughly or your scope tube may be scratched when you reassemble. There are also scope levels and a nice little torquing tool that you can dial in the torque when tightening down your scope ring screws. Follow the online video tutorials and you will be fine. Pros- Every thing you need less the kitchen sink Cons- Thus kit is HEAVY, the plastic case ( slippery ) needs a handle to hold onto.

I purchased the Wheeler scope mounting kit after watching a Youtube video demonstrating how to properly mount and torque a rifle scope. While I have only done 2 scopes so far, I found all the tools to be of excellent quality. Not sure how some users are breaking the driver bits but I found the set included to be equivalent quality to those I use on a regular basis in our business. The only thing I found was there wasn't a hex bit to match the screw size on one of my scopes, but used one from another set with no problem. I thought the leveling tools were very useful and easy to use, contrary to some reviews. Yes, there are better systems designed to work with all actions, but if your just doing bolt actions, these work fine. Would definitely recommend.
