Edward's Menagerie: Over 40 soft and snuggly toy animal crochet patterns Review: Adorable Patterns & Easy to Follow – Perfect for All Levels! - This book is absolutely lovely! The animal patterns are so cute and well-designed, and the instructions are super easy to follow—even if you're just starting out. I've already made at least 10 animals and each one has been a joy to create. One of the things I love most is how the book is organized by skill level. It gently guides you from beginner-friendly designs to more advanced ones, so whether you're a total beginner or more experienced, there's something for you. I also really appreciated that it shows you how to make the same animal in different sizes—that flexibility is such a thoughtful detail and makes the book even more fun to use. Highly recommend for anyone who loves crafting adorable animals and wants a clear, inspiring guide to follow! Review: Fun book of beautiful projects! - I love this book! Such whimsical animals! Easy to follow instructions that are very well thought out. Most of the stitches are a single crochet which is a half double crochet in the UK. Very easy to translate. Most of the animals have a standard body so general instructions are provided. Specific instructions are provided separately. I didn't find it difficult to flip to different sections of the book. The animals are easy to make. Photos are beautiful and there are lots of hints. These little animals make great baby gifts. Though the suggested yard is alpaca, I substituted some acrylic blend from Michael's which worked just fine. Really, you can use any yarn and the appropriate size hook. The size may change somewhat but will still work just fine!

Excellent crochet book of cute animals
This is a wonderful set of designs for a wide variety of crocheted stuffed animals. The book is written in British terms, so those who follow the US terms will need to adjust their brains around the stitches. I have a page of conversion terms that I have put together to remind me - so I just sit that to the side and refer back to it when I have to change stitches. I've done this for years and find it helpful. Apart from the issue with terms, I don't see that the patterns are very difficult. I believe that a fairly beginner crocheter should be able to stitch these without problem. I would not try this as a first project but perhaps after you have made a scarf or two and perhaps a hat. That will give you experience with straight stitching and rounds. There are some standardized pieces in the collection that are fairly easy to master and from that point on, it is fairly simple to make a whole houseful of animals. I am enjoying crocheting these for grandchildren and for me, too. I am also looking forward to Kerry Lord's book on crochet birds which is coming out this fall.

Cute and simple
Really cute and fairly simple patterns. I found the base patterns simple to alter to create a more customized animal. (I made the above fox as a gift for someone and didn’t like the fox pattern in the book so I took elements from other animals to make one I knew she would like better) As others have stated, the directions use UK terms (“dc” is our “sc” etc) but it’s fairly easy to convert. There is a guide near the start that shows you what weight of yarn and hook size to use based on the approximate size animal you want to end up with. In the back are guides for ear and eye placement with examples of how the placement affects the expression of the toy as well as guides for stuffing and assembly . The back also holds pages that show the back of the animals so you can get a good look at their tails with brief descriptions of their characteristics. The book is sectioned in three levels, with each section containing gradually more complex patterns. I think a beginner would do okay with this book. The Level 1 patterns are solid color and largely single crochet from what I can see.

An incredible book for the modern crocheter of stuffed animals!
This book is sooooooooooo well done! Easy to follow instructions-even a very beginner crocheter can use this book with success!. The book is separated into three levels all with great projects you would happily make for yourself or as gifts to others! She gives all the measurements and tools needed- nothing complicated (very well explained). Huge plus- there is picture for EVERYTHING! Even shows finished product in 4 different sizes with explanation of yarn ounces, hook size, height sizes and weights -makes it easy to understand so you can substitute yarns and yarn colors when needed or wanted! Animals are so very cute and there are so many of them to choose from! Love the back story and her son is adorable! This book is well worth the money!! I am making the bunny now and it is working up very quickly. Would give 100 stars if I was allowed!

Beginner at crotchet
This book was my first attempt at crochet. I made the 4 animals above as well as a highland cow. After completing 3 directly from patterns, I began to customize to make a dairy cow and match the markings of my nieces cat. I personally like that all of the patterns start from a basic pattern. This was nice for a beginner. Because I have never crocheted before, I learned with her stitches and didn’t have to translate. She also has video instructions of her stitches online that were helpful. There are a few things I changed to improve the appearance. The cat ears did not work with my yarn. I made ears about a third of the size of her pattern. I also tend to make the arms and legs a couple rows longer to give more of a floppy appearance. I would recommend this book.

I have 3 of Kerry Lord’s books, and have made over a dozen animals. I hadn’t crocheted in over 30 years, and these were easy to get started with, as it’s almost all single crochet. My first attempt at her method of ‘invisible decrease’ was a bit wonky, but I discovered a YouTube channel which illustrated it well and never looked back! From this book I’ve made Emma the bunny, Bridget the elephant (super cute!), Penelope the bear, Benedict the chimpanzee (another super cute one!), Laurence the tiger, Caitlin the giraffe, and Rufus the lion. I made changes to Rufus, as I didn’t like the mane in the pattern, so I just used another of her methods for that. Be aware of the yarn used - a soft, shiny yarn isn’t great for the animals with hair, but it’s perfect for something like the elephant. They all turn out well, and everyone loves them. I also have ‘The New Collection’ and ‘Dogs’ in the Edward’s Menagerie series.
