Maybe this doesn't warrant a one star, but it is enough of a deal-breaker for me to send it back. The variable playback is nowhere near 8x. It's maybe 1.3x. There are settings that go from -8 to +8, but that's just an internal number that doesn't correspond to how many times the original speed it will play back. This is one of the main reasons that I chose this particular recorder over a number of others at around the same price point with other features. The sound quality seemed fine. I didn't play with it long enough to really get a great sense of it before discovering the playback speed issue. It feels nice in the hand. It has some heft to it and doesn't feel cheap. That has mostly to do with it being made of metal. The buttons press nicely. The slider to turn it on is probably a good design (as opposed to a power button). I guess it would be less likely to get turned off accidentally. Also, the slider is good and stiff which would be good on a power slider. But the slider to record just seems odd and awkward. Maybe my fingers would adjust to it over time.

The device is good . The voice activated feature is bad , it works only with a very high voice .. no sensitivity control ..

I personally thought this was an incredible recorder. I used it to record college classes and it worked wonders. That was until I tried adjusting the settings. I was very confused by the fact that when I tried to adjust something all the menu was a bunch of dots or dashes. Now everything is in a different language and I cant fix it. On top of the fact that despite having an extra 8 GB sd card it says memory full. If I could get a replacement or get mine fixed that would be amazing because I thought it was an incredible recorder and did what I needed it to do.

I cannot justify buying a more expensive mic for regular recording. Built like a tank, battery lasts forever, interface is simple and it comes with just about every accessory you could use. Highly recommended.

I purchased this product a year ago and it never worked. Unfortunately, for me I fooled around with it for to long before I could return it. It wont record and although I've read the directions, looked at videos and read blogs. This little machine is now a paperweight that I regret. My suggestion is STAY AWAY..Keep Your Money cause this is a waste.

This is a good simple tool for the person recording college lectures or a professinoal journalist making sure the quotes used are exactly in the right context. For the money it's a good purchase.
