In this new Tom Clancy franchise, you take command of the Ghosts, an elite squad of military personnel equipped with the latest experimental real-world weaponry. Wherever there is military conflict, the Ghosts are the first on the ground. Russia has fallen under the control of ultranationalistic politicians intent on rebuilding the iron curtain. This leads to conflict with NATO as Russia attempts to reclaim the breakaway Republic of Georgia, and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. As the regional wars escalate out of control, the casualties mount and the Ghosts are sent in. Take command of the Ghosts through a series of missions that range from demolitions to search and rescues to all-out firefights. Review: Great military sim!!! - This game is amazing! I just bought it a couple days ago and just got it in the mail yesterday! Last night I popped the disc in the drive and installed the game with no problems. Once I started playing the game I decided to bump up the graphics a little bit. I will admit the graphics are a little dated but if you can get past that this game is awesome! The first level is really hard! And its not hard because you know, there's a stupid glitch and the tango is shootin you through the walls. No, its hard becaue the AI is amazing on this game!! If the tango sees you first he will actually try to sneak up on you, not just stand in one position and wait to get picked off. For the price of the game it is a great deal. My only complaint is that the graphics are a little old. If your looking for a good, challenging military simulation game this is the one! And for only 1.78, its a great deal!!! Review: Good - could have been better - This program really uses your computer up - so make sure you have a fast processor and adequate video and system memory before considering purchase. I have a 1.2ghz AMD with a 32mb video card and Ghost Recon only runs in the lowest video settings. Gameplay is really great. For those of you that played Rouge Spear everything will be very familiar to you in this game as far as controls and interface are concerned. The maps are pretty big, and the enemies have really good AI programs. They are probably twice as 'smart' as in Rouge Spear. One thing I didn't like is the taking away of the detailed mission planning capabilities. In Rouge Spear you could plan it down to the smallest detail - orchestrating your forces. In Ghost Recon it is a much more simple interface - the planning can only be basic. Buy this game if you have a fast computer and like a somewhat more intelligent shooter game than the average gore fests.

Definitely impressed and so realistic....
As noted is some of the previous reviews, I have experienced no problems with GR in single player. My specs: P4 1.4G, Intel 850GB motherboard, 128 RDRam, GeForce2 MX 400, SB Live Value. I have noticed a distinct popping noise during single player gameplay when shuffling or strafing, but not all the time. This is not necessarily a problem w/ the game as well. Overall, I'm am thoroughly impressed with the game. As a past devoted fan to the Tom Clancy: Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear series, GR definitely adds another "notch on the belt". Graphics are clean and very realistic. Movement and weapon effects are more believeable. The realism effect is definitely there. In some cases, it maybe too much for some. AI is definitely an improvement. Case in point: I approach two "bad guys" within 50 meters, placed a shot on one and down he went. The other "bad guy" went down as well; like he was shot. This confused me for a second thinking I had nailed both of them with one shot. I held my position for a few seconds and sure enough, the second guy did stand up, facing my direction and shooting. Fortunately, I was prepared and took him down as well. This situation took me completely by surprise and surely would have been my demise had I not held back a few seconds. The kicker to add to this: this occurred in the first map. Imagine what lies ahead.......? I have not attempted online multiplayer but have tried IP and LAN with no problems. Same relative idea as with RS, but with a facelift.

Aged Game
This is a bad product. It doesnโt work on any of the compatibility settings and I have a mediocre 2.4 ghz computer. They shouldnโt be selling it.

So much potential lost
I've had Ghost Recon on and off of my hard drive since it first came out. I keep reinstalling it, perhaps thinking maybe the friendly AI have gotten smarter. The graphics are top notch....but the friendly AI prove very frustrating. I've yet to pick up on what is so "realistic" about this game, as you're supposedly leading a Special Forces unit that has members that act as if they're straight out of the School of Infantry. They will not provide a base of fire when the target(s) are practically right in front of them, so you can forget about planning even the most rudimentary of offensive actions. Waypoint finding is at times laughable, at other times, you will want to shoot your squad members yourself, or thrill at their getting wasted for being so dumb. Try to get them to clear a small house. No in-game weapon view, but simply a reticle on your HUD. In multiplayer games, this can prove deadly as you try to remain concealed, but your position is given away by a protruding barrel. No type of support for the squad machineguns (M249, M240, etc.). Though a vastly different game, I love Day of Defeat for its allowing the player, as a machinegunner, to use his weapon more effectively by deploying the machineguns bipod. For all its "realism", why was this important feature left out.

HUGE SURPRISE>>>HIDDEN SURPRISES---BAD ONES!!!
After playing the first mission I would have given this game 5 stars for sure! The graphics were incredible, the sound was great, and it's obvious that a lot of research went into this game. However, as I played the subsequent missions I began realizing HUGE FLAWS in the game that were quite obvious and, in my opinion, seemed to me to be blatantly overlooked. First and foremost is the friendly AI which, as a previous reviewer stated, is all but useless. Secondly, the enemy targeting is preposterous; many of the times I've been shot were while crouched behind a boulder while my incompetent number two man remained unscathed in the wide open. This makes it very difficult to accurately target the enemy when your man is constantly the one going down. Third, are the missions involving escorting or being escorted by tanks. In most of these missions, the max of 2 teams of 3 men each are needed to defeat the enemy. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to control the movements of two teams in order to keep them behind the cover of the tanks. Also, on the last mission I played, all of the tanks completely ignored an enemy tank only to leave the trailing second infantry team to be annihilated by the untouched and in-plain-view enemy armor. I also find it highly doubtful that an enemy without a night vision device could spot an adversary with night vision first. I've found this game to be 90% trial and error and 10% military tactics. Other than these MAJOR FLAWS (all noticed within a few hours of gameplay), this game is great, however, I don't know if I can bring myself to overlook these flaws, as undeniable as they are. Though incredibly frustrating, it is still somewhat enjoyable.

Awesome
Arrived quick, and the disc is in pristine condition which is amazing for a nearly 20 year old game! Only problem is that now Iโm as addicted to it as I was years ago... still have all my mods and other map packs saved on CD. So, thanks, Iโm probably about to lose my job, girlfriend, house, dog, etc because of this game. Donโt buy it! More addictive than heroin!
