CALDECOTT MEDAL WINNER • A soothing, poetic picture book that lovingly depicts the relationship of a young child and her father alongside humankind’s relationship to the natural world. A verbal and visual treasure for the whole family! I had been waiting to go Owling with Pa for a long, long time. Late one winter night, a little girl and her father go owling. The trees stand still as statues and the world is silent as a dream. Whoo-whoo-whoo , the father calls to the mysterious nighttime bird. But there is no answer. Wordlessly, the two walk along, for when you go owling, you don't need words. You don't need anything but hope. Sometimes, there isn't an owl, but sometimes, there is. With enchanting storytelling by distinguished author Jane Yolen, and soft, exquisite watercolor illustrations by Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator John Schoenherr, Owl Moon is a timeless classic that is sure to delight readers of all ages. Review: This is a book about Hope. - This is my favorite children's book. It is also one of my favorite books for anyone for all time. We're a family through adoption, which can involve long waits, mysterious circumstances, & moments of sadness & longing--as well as wonderful surprises & amazing turns of events. It requires steady waiting & a willingness to see & expect--in other words it requires Hope. It needs bravery from all parties to be successful. I have handed this book to many waiting couples: It is such a beautiful illustration of Hope. I still have a hard time reading it out loud without getting teary; I'm so grateful for my children, who are now amazing, wonderful adults--one with their one children & the other getting close to marriage & hopefully their own children, too. Of course, this book is at the top of the list when that time comes around. Review: Book - Super story. Great for quiet time. Great information on nature. Very enjoyable.

A True Classic
This is the most wonderful, heartwarming, kind and gentle book!! I had this when my son was growing up and read it aloud to him countless times. I got as much delight from this as he did and we both always looked forward to story hour each night and this is the book that was most requested by both of us. My son is now 26 and when he was moving he had stored the box containing all his old children's books on a back porch at his cousin's house which sadly was stolen by some jerk when he left it outside for an hour or so while going to the store. I sent this to him for Christmas figuring he should at least have one kids book in his house and was he ever delighted to receive this. He was so very happy to have this again and he said that it was the very best Christmas gift he had ever received. I can't recommend this terrific book highly enough and for those of you who are parents of smaller kids get this by all means and read it out loud to your children. You will all just fall in love with it. A wonderful, wonderful, wonderful book!!!!

The most amazing children's book I've ever seen
This is by far the most amazing children's book I've ever seen. Our daughter LOVES it and asks us to read it to her constantly. Such a beautiful story and drawings. She was just under 2.5 when we started reading it to her and it was PERFECT for her even then (despite it being really quite advanced language).

Quiet time story time
I used this book to help the children to quiet down, because the child in the book explains how special it is to go into woods but you have to be quiet (even when you're a bit cold).
