meross Outdoor Smart Plug Work with HomeKit, Alexa, Google and SmartThings

I bought this a year ago for use with HomeKit (Siri) for backyard lights. It isn't perfect, but it earns the fifth star: The bad: Setting up took a few tries, and maybe twice in a year, HomeKit required me to re-pair the device for reasons unknown. Requires you to turn off 5GHz, if you have it, to set up (2.4GHz only). Also, you may have to try a couple different names for the device and the separate outlets if you want to be able to control each plug separately while retaining the ability to turn them both on and off as a single device (e.g. front yard, back yard, whole yard). The good: Does the job. Switches on and off very quickly. Wifi works fine once it's set up. If it requires re-pairing, the process isn't difficult. The button on the device works reliably even before it's set up. Waterproofing has been reliable for a year, even through pretty heavy storms. The best: a week ago, I had to re-pair it and discovered that I hadn't written down the HomeKit code, and the sticker that had it printed on had come off. So I wrote in to Meross through their support page with a couple pieces of info (the device's default WiFi network name and its MAC address, both available from my Eero router control app), and they got back to me in a day with the HomeKit code for re-pairing (along with an apology for taking so long). I was very pleasantly surprised with that kind of high-quality customer support.

Works great! I have not been able to test long term use outdoors yet, but it is very handy and easy to use. I plugged it in, went to wifi settings, clicked on the device, and it asked me to scan the QR sticker on the device. It tried to connect and didn't work. The app wouldn't show it, and it wouldn't let me add it again because it said it was already there (but it didn't show up). I held down the power button on the device and it reset. I was able to repeat the same process and it worked the second time. Each switch can be controlled independently from your phone. It can also work with voice commands, but I have not tried those yet. I highly recommend!

This is the third one of these I own and I really like them. In my entry one port controls a fountain and the other the fountain light. Another controls a small light and my holiday lights. By using the Apple home app I can have them all come on and shut off at different times. I also have one in my patio for anther fountain and my Bluetooth amp for music in the back yard. They are stable and don't need constant resetting like some others I have tried.

So i bought this (not sure if i bought used or brand new) but it was SUPER easy to setup. Yes you can use the Meross App on your phone to set it up, but if any Apple Homekit has that little rectangular QR code sticker... you can instantly add that to Homekit. Thats what that QR is for. This product DOES NOT need the Meross app, will setup straight into your Homekit app. 3/5 stars because only 1/2 plugs worked, and you can hear the audible click noise when the Surge protection clicks on and off. It would do this constantly. Im returning this defective product and ordering the same exact product, because it was super easy to setup and works easy. Also went through 2 separate Oklahoma heavy T-Storms... So i assume its weatherproofed quite well. Tip: When setting up in Homekit, make sure to label each outlet as "Outlet 1, Outlet 2, or LED lights, etc) otherwise you will forget which one is which.

I m on a mission to prevent internet connections by smart (cough) devices during configuration and operation. So I only trust HomeKit and devices that can be fully configured just with a connection to the HomeKit hub (AppleTV) and not the internet. Not only that, but that has to be done while the device is on a separate and highly restricted VLAN. Meross nails it with this and all the other HomeKit-compatible Meross products I’ve tried so far. It’s a little wonky to do the steps with separate VLANs and no internet but it works great. I have 6 Meross outlets running for 1-2 years and they have been nearly flawless, the only issue has been a loss of connection on two and a quick power cycle fixed them.

Have two of these for more than 2 years, and both have now failed. Initially, they worked great like most of the reviews stated. Even I thought they were pretty good for the money. Eventually, one unit developed a fault in one of the outlets, rendering it a single plug unit (although the second outlet is still visible). Then the process of moving them or reprogramming them became the issue, rending them as bricks. Using HomeKit, I refrain from using the 3rd party app process for anything due to privacy concerns. Meross/Refoss has slowly begun to change their TOS to be more invasive, and as a condition of the unit functioning, which is not the arrangement when I purchased these. If you need to move the unit to another SSID (change wifi name), resetting the unit accomplishes nothing. Using the normal HK procedure to add, delete or re-add an accessory does nothing with these units if they've been installed. HK simply won't recognize them...onto their App to attempt to make them work again. Immediately 'Update App' (hadn't used it since I installed it to see what it was about), and there were new TOS requirements. Now the company wants to know my 'exact location' in order to use the device. The app guides you through a myriad of changes to your privacy settings on your iPhone to allow the device to know your network info, location and other data. This wasn't needed initially when I installed the device. Why does it need my exact location to work anyway? Hmmm. If I was a conspiracy theorist I would suspect that the country of origin is attempting to establish a beacon system across the USA using consumer devices for mapping when GPS no longer gives them a signal...good thing I am not a conspiracy theorist. Unplugging the unit for 2 days, resetting it, holding the power button down for 20 seconds, 60 seconds, 2 mins, does nothing. If you're HK savvy, know I've tried all the normal procedures. Invest in Matter plugs, or try another brand. I am slowly ridding my house of all Meross/Refoss products as they keep changing the requirements of operation and they are likely to not be able to be reprogrammed when needed.

It took me perhaps seven minutes to get this set up to control some outdoor lights. You use your smartphone to set it up. The two sockets are individually controlled and offer a lot of power for the money. Both can be actuated manually via smartphone app, or via your home automation platform. Ours is an Apple household, so I used my iPhone to set it up and connect it to our house's HomeKit hub (an Apple TV) for secure Internet accessibility and programmability. Apple Homekit allowed me to set up an automation so that one of this unit's sockets (in our case, running some outdoor lights) turns on every evening at sunset, adjusting automatically for the season and Daylight Savings Time. The socket is then set to automatically turn off at 10:30 each night. The second socket we'll use for Christmas lights. This replaces a high-end outdoor timer that was always getting screwed up by power failures and of course the beginning and ending of Daylight Savings Time. (It was "high end" in the sense that it's a model meant to last more than 18 months, which cheaper timers don't, in my experience.) The old timer is located in a really inconvenient place, so the remote controllability and programmability (via HomeKit) of this device really addresses a lot of frustrations! Physically, it's just a sturdy AC cord with a plug on one end and the socket assembly on the other. It's not heavy and is meant to simply hang off a wall outlet. No mounting is required. Recommended! If any troubles develop, I'll update this review. Based on first impressions, it's a solid five stars.

Lately I've been adding more smart home devices to my home (primarily revolving around Apple HomeKit), and I needed a HomeKit-compatible outdoor smart plug to control my workshop lights. The area I was going to use the smart plug was prone to being exposed to the elements, so I required an outdoor-spec smart plug. Based on the fact that my last two Meross smart home products (the garage opened and the indoor plugs) worked out great, I decided to try their outdoor plug. Out of the box, it was a lot smaller than I was expecting - the Meross Outdoor Smart Plug was replacing a similar remote-controlled plug (using a radio-frequency push-button fob) but it took a lot less space on the back of my workbench where I have all my cables organized. I also like how the rubber plugs (that are used to seal the plug holes when not in use) are attached to the housing, so I won't lose them if ever I have to unplug something in the future. With the smart plug attached to my workbench, I plugged in the smart plug, pulled out my iPhone, and went straight to the Home app. What I like about Meross products is that you do not need to install the Meross app to use them with Apple HomeKit; you can add Meross products to your smart home via the Home app directly; this was also true with their outdoor smart plug. All of the Meross products that I've purchased so far have the required HomeKit QR code decal, making setup and installation a quick job. You can install the Meross app optionally if you want a single interface for just your Meross devices, but it's not necessary. Now that I have integrated my workshop lights into my smart home, another smart convenience has been achieved! The response of the Meross Outdoor Smart Plug is quick and lag-free, it works with Siri commands (mine is "Hey Siri, turn my garage lamps on") and it is exactly the smart plug that I was looking for.

Bought this to run my two submersible pumps in my back yard remotely when it was raining/ storming while we were away from the house (we were having heavy flooding due to rain) Being able to operate the plugs using wifi and the Amazon Alexa app has saved us lots of money preventing water from entering the house while we are out; it also keeps us dry when we used the app to turn them on inside the house. I have never had an issue with the plugs not connecting to the wifi. We bought another plug to run our lights outside and love that we can used the Alexa app to set up a timer for them.

Quick to set up on my existing 2.4GHz WiFi network. Works perfectly! Robust design. Will definitely buy more!
