Wider feet? SIZE UP! I did and it solved the poor fit problem.
This might be controversial among the Sperryโs community but if you know that you have wider feet, SIZE UP! I bought some Sperryโs Boat shoes 2 years ago in my size at one of there stores and they were tight, the salesman said that I would break them in but it never happened. I had to sell that old pair because every time I wore them it hurt and were way too tight. So when I wanted some new Sperryโs Boat shoes I got a size 13 instead of a 12 (my size in vans btw) and they are way more comfortable! They fit well and donโt pinch me. I think the concept of breaking shoes in applies more towards them molding to your feet, they shouldnโt โexpandโ or โget biggerโ at least enough to make an already tight and uncomfortable pair become comfy. When your parents took you to get shoes as a kid what did they say, โare they comfortable? Do they fit well?โ And I think that still applies even with these types of shoes despite the narrative of โsize down because you will break them in.โ I want to clarify that I wear these shoes for leisure and style and they are not for work, maybe if youโre on a sailboat you would want something super tight? I donโt know but I do know that sizing up solved the poor fit problem for me. I love the look of these shoes they are perfect for summer and going sock-less is so nice when it is toasty outside. If you want a simple way to dress up a casual summer outfit these are a perfect choice.

You can't go wrong with Sperry. Amazon inflates the price though
I have over a dozen pairs of these Sperry shoes. Some are getting a little beat up after a decade, so I am replenishing the collection! Since Amazon bought Zappos, prices are much higher. I wait for price drops. The quality, appearance, materials used, and fit have not changed. Amazon is artificially inflating the price. Once you buy a pair for say $65, and then look at more, they are suddenly $110. So if you are thinking of getting more than one pair do it in one session. Also, I'd wait to look at them on the day of purchase. I have noticed that if I look at something and go back later to buy, the price almost always isat least 10% higher.

Best dog walking shoes for summer! No wet feet and they keep them chill when wet nothing gets through!

Still one of the best....
I have dozens of boats shoes and have tried almost every main brand there is. Also, I've own and tried just about every variation of boat shoe. The old school, leather lined boat shoes are the best. Sperry AO's are one of the few brands that make an old school leather lined boat shoe. You want the leather lined because it's more comfortable wearing bare foot and doesn't smell in the summer like pretty much all other linings do. These are legit Sperry AO's. Some may not think so, but they are. AO's use a little thinner leather and no longer use a solid rubber sole. Even so, they are ready to go (wear) right out of the box. They look great too - with shorts or pants. Even though these may not be made quite as well as the Sperry's of old, they're still better made than many other boat shoes. I'm a fan.

Lasting on sandy/dirt roats with no wear
Update 9/28 I have been walking about a mile every day for a month on dirt trails and pebbly sand roads with daily abuse; no wear. I did apply shoe glue on the gap on around the bottom of the shoe... I am not sure if that makes a difference. I have not been kind to these shoes. Since I mostly only wear mocasins, I find these outside mocasins extremely cofortable. I like them. My guess is if the front of your shoe, that sticks out a bit, gets caught under anything; the shoe toe will fail. I have another "sale pair of Boat shoes. I have not worn them "yet" just to see if how the shoe fails. I am surpriesed that Sperry does not reply to the shoe failures seeing that they all have the same problem and most all 1/2 feedbacks have pictures. Getting a refund on these shoes would be impossible. Even from long time customers expericing these failures First Review The shoes are on sale and are exactly what I wear throught-out the year. However, several 2023 reviews show, with pictures, the soles coming apart within a month, I carefully inspected them. They look perfect and feel comfortable. So I will wait. I have shoe glues to fix them if they do start showing signs of falling apart. Hopefully this is an isolated problem. I will add to this review if the shoe develops problem.

Sperry does not honor their warranty if items are sold through Amazon.
I bought a pair of Sperry menโs Authentic Original 2-Eye Boat Shoes in amaretto color through Amazon in late June. I have since worn them less than a dozen times. They still look brand new. I went to put them on the other day and noticed the toe stitching had failed and that the soul is both cracked and separated on the left shoe. Unfortunately, Amazons return policy is limited to 60 day for shoes. So, I attempted a warranty claim directly through Sperry. Sperryโs website states: โ Through our iconic silhouettes, we take great pride in offering our customers products made with attention to detail and unique craftsmanship, and have the upmost respect for all of our partners, associates, and, of course, you the consumer. What is considered a defective product? Sole, separation, stitching coming undone, leather, bunching, or discoloration, toe or soul detachment. If your footwear is defective within twelve (12) months of the date of purchase, we will make it right. Products purchased from other retailers, including department stores should be returned to the store from which it was originally purchased and will be subject to their warranty policyโ. Sperry will not honor this warranty because they were sold through Amazon. DO NOT PURCHASE SPERRY PRODUCTS THROUGH AMAZON! This is just another example of a formally great company with bulletproof products (I currently have two other pair of Sperry boat shoes in different colors and iterations that Iโve had for years) finding a loophole to screw consumers and avoid having to replace a now inferior and cheap product line.

A nice dressier shoe
My husband never had a suede shoe, but loves this one. It is still Sperry, but more dressy.

Best shoe ever.
Lovely shoe.. Been wearing these since the 90's.. It's pretty much the only shoe I wear. Proper Sperry's last for ages (years). Cheaper imitations fail as quick as 6 months. Once they've been worn for a few weeks, they feel like comfortable slippers. Never had a shoe more comfortable. They are that good I only wear socks when it's cold. My advice - get two (or more) pairs and never wear a pair two days in a row. collectively, they last longer as the days 'breather' lets the shoe recover. The pair these are replacing are over 4 years old, been worn every other day and it's only that the sole is getting a little thin that demands the replacement. Watch out for the sizing! the shoes are labelled (in white inside the tongue) in US sizes. UK sizes are one down (UK10=US11) I normally a UK10/Wide, whereas in these I'm a US11/Medium.. Any decent shopping centre (eg: Bluewater) will have these in-store for you to try on. Go for the slightly snug fit as the shoe will stretch slightly to perfectly mould your feet. I find getting them wet/damp and wearing them for the day results in a perfect fit. (only advised in warm weather) Never had the stitching come apart Never had the sole split Never had the sole come away from the shoe

Classic look, well made, comfortable once broken in.
Excellent boat shoes. Bought them about a month before a sailing holiday to break them in. Just got back from that holiday and can happily recommend them. The heel was a little painful at first due to an overlap of leather - I wore socks with them until the holiday. Tried them without socks while away and have no heel issues any more. Now they are broken in they are very comfortable. That said, if I was going on a long walk with them I would still wear socks to avoid potential blisters. With no-show socks no one even sees them anyway. The laces tend to stay tied better than other leather laces have done with other makes of boat shoe. The shoes take longer to dry than my previous pair of Timberland boat shoes however the Sperrys are more of a firm leather than the Tims (which were more of a soft nubuck leather). After a complete soaking in the sea they took about a day to dry. Not too bad really. Overall, these boat shoes have the classic look, they are well made, and once broken in they are comfortable. I would definitely recommend them.
